no weight loss!!
I've been doing LC for 7 weeks. I weigh myself and take my measurements every Sunday. I've been at the same weight and inches for the whole time. In fact, it seems I've gained a few!
Any reason why this is happening? My carb intake is around 30-45 a day... Please help!! |

What are you eating every day? How much?
You don't have a lot to lose (based on your stats), so calories count too.

Try lowering your carbs to 20g per day.

I agree. Keep track of your calories, you don't weigh much. And lower your carbs. Hope that works for you; I know it's frustrating when you don't see progress for awhile.

Usually for breakfast I eat low-carb pancakes from LC foods. About 1g per medium pancake. I have 2.
Lunch is tofu with half a cup of LC homemade tomato sauce and asparagus Snack is an Atkins Shake (3g) Dinner is caprese salad (mozz and tomato) with broccoli. |

Sounds like you are not getting much fat. That will slow you down every time. Do you know about how many grams of fat you get per day, what % of your calories come from fat? I think you will see some movement on the scale fairly quickly if you lower your carbs and up your fat.

Drop the preprepared sweet foods like Atkins shakes and the pancakes. They are probably sweetened with sugar alcohols, which stall some people.

I'd say ditch the products and stick with as much fresh food as possible. Get more fat and try lowering the carbs down to 20g a day. Some people can lose just fine on 35-40grams a day (especially men and very active people), but others have to stay a lot lower. Did you do the Induction/Phase 1 part of the plan?

My 20 lb weight loss goal took me about 6 mos. At times it seemed like I wasn't losing at all, but then about every 2-3 wks, I'd drop about 2 lbs. I also tried to keep my carbs below 20g/day & only ate fresh foods. I still do that now to maintain. Just stick w/ it, it works!

You've got a couple challenges. Following LC or Atkins while being a vegetarian is harder. You don't have the protein options we do.
The first thing I'd eliminate, as the others have suggested, is the pancakes and shakes. Whole, real food is your best bet. The pancakes are a big staller, any "frankenfood" isn't gonna' help you lose. Second: Do you eat eggs? Cheese? Those are real foods, that are low in carbs and good for you. Cottage cheese is a good choice, if you choose the higher fat option (4%). Try some Greek yogurt (once you're through a 20g carb phase). Salads, brocolli, good clean fats in dressings, all are good options. If you can drop your carbs down to 20g for a few days to even a week you might get into ketosis which will help you lose. Good luck!

I don't know if this will be helpful, but my dad has been vegan since before I was born and although he's never *consciously* done low-carbing, he's found over the years that he operates better when he eats a very high-fat diet during the winter. And when I look at his nutrition diaries, I see that his winter menu is almost (but not quite) a nutritional ketosis plan.
Because he's vegan -- AND, in addition to not eating any dairy or animal products, he ALSO won't eat any processed foods or foods whose provenance he can't check (like sustainability, impact on soil life, edge effect, water sourcing, etc) -- he weighs, measures, and charts all of his meals to make sure he gets *sufficient* and *varied* protein (from fibrous veggies, a brand of brown rice protein powder supplement, different forms of tofu, beans and legumes, marine veggies, etc). So he has a *moderate* protein intake, with about 60-80% of calories from fat during the winter months. Vegan protein sources generally contain a substantial amount of carbs, so he doesn't actually gets to ketosis level (under 50g carbs per day). But because his winter focus is on eating fats, while choosing relatively protein-heavy veggie sources, his carbs generally stay under 100g per day during the winter months. He's slim, and absolutely not trying to lose body weight, so he intentionally keeps his calories pretty high. He eats a lot of bean pastes made with a substantial amount of olive oil. He eats a lot of nut butters, like cashew butter and almond butter. Wild mushroom souffles made with nut oils. A person who eat this type of nutritional profile, but who kept calories and quantities a bit lower, could probably cut the carbs to ketosis level. And a non-vegan vegetarian, who eats dairy, could also change the brown rice protein supplement to a whey or casein protein supplement and take in even fewer carbs while maintaining protein balance. Just a thought! |

I see you are stubbornly pursuing your 'OMG Trillex makes excellent posts' agenda there!
I only quoted part of the excellence to add that even ketosis levels (<50g) may not be needed depending on the individual. Even as high as 100g with a menu plan like the one you describe could result in very nice and steady weight loss. |
