Bullying - a news anchor's response

Saw this today and had to share.

NEWSFLASH: Being a jerk is always a bad idea, but it is an especially bad idea when a) you have no idea what you're talking about, and b) you choose to target someone who has the ability to completely break down your crap on her very own live show.

Bully Calls News Anchor Fat, News Anchor Destroys Him On Live TV

Thanks for posting this.
I wish I could say I'm shocked, but sadly I'm not at all shocked.
I applaud her bravery.
I don't think I would have that kind of courage...

Oh, the strength of an articulate mom with maturity.

But, of course, she's quite right that a teen might not be able to deal with the counterpart of that "note" they might receive through the internet. Can you imagine a young girl or boy trying to come to grips with that kind of guilt-ridden, accusing harshness? Ouch, ouch.

I think a video like this might be better than the ones shown to teens in schools here - those lean too heavily on some of the sad outcomes. It might be better for teens to see how a strong woman handles bullying that comes her way.

I was so impressed by this woman's response. I was also impressed that the TV station employs and supports folks who are not just one very tiny size.

I love that she gave it back to the jerk on live tv. However I don't really see what the offender did as bullying, just being a crass, colossal b-hole with no tact or empathy.

Mrs. S, I agree with you. While the letter was rude and unsolicited it was not bullying, IMO. Rather than using truth with compassion, he/she used truth as a weapon. It was mean spirited.

Def. of bullying (quick internet search)

Use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.

one habitually cruel to others who are weaker

Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power. It can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability.[2][3] The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a "target".

To me, considering the letter she read as "bullying" demeans what people that experience real bullying in their lives must deal with.
