Quest bars!!!

I had read some reviews and opinions here about Quest bars, but had never gotten around to trying them. OMGOODNESS!!!

I tried the Apple Pie and the Strawberry Cheesecake and I was in Heaven! If you eat a whole one and have some tea or water with it, you are stuffed for hours!

Cost will keep me from overdoing it on these things. The cheapest I could find them was $2.69 and I'm not willing to do that regularly. I like the Pure Protein bars I get from Kroger on sale 10 for $10.

If you're looking for a great treat to keep in your purse for emergencies, I highly recommend these.

Couldnt agree more. Love these things- they are my go to emergency purse food. Plus- great for traveling. Plus- great for a quick sweet fix. I cut them in 1/2 inch strips and eat just a few, as if they were little candies. My favorite flavor is almond vanilla, but the DH just ordered a bunch of new flavors- hope he got the ones you recommended- those sound great!

Good to know. I need a bar to take with me to an event next weekend. I'm going to look for these. Anyone know if Trader Joe's have 'em?

Not everyone reacts the same way. First of all, anything with a sweet taste is a 'trigger' for me and incites my appetite.

In addition, my body obviously treats the sweetener in these bars as 'the real thing.' Not only am I not 'full for hours,' I'll be starving within minutes. Clearly, I get an insulin surge.

Quest seem to be the best of the bars because of their ingredients, but personally, I might just as well eat a Snickers as a 'protein bar' in terms of how I react.

Everyone needs to find what works (and doesn't work) for her/him; IMO, that's the key to effective weight management.

I ordered 2 cinnamon roll and 2 chocolate peanut butter for my son who LOVES atkins bars.. He didn't like them but I did.. I just eat 1/2 as a treat!! Yummy!

I have to agree with Leo....they taste wonderful, and i love the natural ingredients...but one just triggers my appetite for more. When I ate three in one setting and it didn't phase me...I knew I couldn't order any more! haha... I wish I had better portion control, because to me, they taste so great...and warmed up in the microwave they are even better!! (Cold I liked them alongside a cup of coffee.)

The company website has information about where to buy them locally. After reading this thread I decided to buy some for my plane ride this week and there just wasn't time to order them online. I bought a few of each of the flavors that the store had in stock to try them out.

I have never been tempted to eat more than one- they are SO filling! Maybe it's all that chewing- takes so long to eat it- I'm full before I know it. Plus I must have water or a large hot beverage to go with them.

That being said, I have never considered warming them up in the microwave. That sounds really dangerous from a yumminess standpoint and would probably make it less chewy. I'm gonna have to pretend I never heard that!

Oh Leslie!! Sounds like you have good control...try it warmed up! I would eat tiny bites with a spoon...and savor each bite...I only warmed it for about 10 seconds...they can get overdone easily.

I just have issues with getting satisfied when I eat sweets...they for sure trigger...and I can't seem to stop myself!
But if I could control myself I would definitely order more Quest Bars.

Annie... I think you are a life saver!! DH and I are leaving for Puerto Vallarta on Saturday for 10 days and we were trying to figure out what we could have for a quick, low carb breakfast before we head out to do our 4 mile beachwalk. I think this just MIGHT be the thing! Could you taste the sweetener difference between the two? The Apple Pie is sweetened with Sucralose and the Strawberry Cheesecake with Stevia.

I think they are really good too- and the nutrition/ingredient profile is very good.

That said, they are a bit of a trigger for me. I eat one and could eat a bunch more. Not a problem if you have just one on you, but if you happen to have put a bunch in your desk drawer, like me, then have one, another one later and another one even later it becomes a problem

I can buy these locally now. These are the only bars I do not feel guilty about eating. The ones that have sugar alcohols have caused triggers for me, but the ones that do not have sugar alcohols do not and I never want more than one bar. That's a huge thing for me. When I get atkins bars by the box, I eat the whole box.

Quest bars are the only bars for me!

I've been eating 45-60 grams of carbs per day and staying in ketosis. Yesterday I had only 42 grams of carbs and today I am out of ketosis. I had chicken, cauliflower, cream cheese, string cheese and a Quest bar yesterday. The Quest bar was good but now I'm wondering about the true carb count on it. Is it possible that the carb count on the label is incorrect?

Do you count total or net carbs? The Quest bars are 25g of carbs EACH, but they report 17g of fiber, along with 5g of sugar alcohols--and that's what brings the carb count so low.

I can't eat them because I all sweet-tasting things are a 'trigger' for me, but I've also noticed that despite the relatively low level of sweetener, I get very hungry if I have one of them, so my body may be reacting to the total carb count.

I usually do 'net carbs,' but that's with green vegetables. This may not work that way.

I don't really know, but I do know that although I'd love to be able to eat these things (I bought them originally for traveling), I can't.

I count total carbs. So yesterday out of my 42 carbs, 25 were from my Quest bar.

They don't all have SA's. It depends on which ones you get. For example, the peanut butter & jelly (my fave so far of the natural ones), has 21g total carbs, 17g fiber, 2g sugar, for 4g net carbs.

Sugar alcohols can cause serious problems for me, craving wise, and I feel like it knocks me out of ketosis. But 2g of real sugar isn't really anything. I can do 2g sugar in my SF Heinz Ketchup in a day. That's how I look at it.

I looked up the natural ones on Netrition because I recalled that what I'd eaten had listed sugar alcohols. I don't know which flavor it was that I checked, but it was one of the 'natural' ones because that's what I bought, and it listed 5g of sugar alcohols, along with 2g of sugar. That's why I mentioned it.

So anyone who has a sensitivity to sugar alcohols should check the nutrition info before buying to insure they get a flavor that doesn't have any.

I've had the chocolate brownie and the PBJ and neither has been a trigger thank goodness! They are really good.

I may or may not use one of the brownie bars warmed up in the micro with a scoop of LC Breyers as a brownie sundae from time to time...


Yup, I do. It rules. Sometimes I even melt peanutbutter on top. LC FTW!!!!!
