low carb shakes

Thinking of drinking a protein shake low in carbs for breakfast each day. Slim fast has too many carbs but I haven't tried those in years. Does anyone drink shakes or other low carb meal replacement shakes?

I lost a TON drinking egg cream shakes for breakfast. I keep going back and forth on if I want to try that again, as it was hard for me to see as an ongoing way of eating, and I'm trying to make changes that I can stick with permanently.

At any rate, the egg creams were super delicious, easy to prep for a weeks worth in advance and very filling.

I'd have to dig up the exact recipe, but I would mix canned pumpkin (not pie filling, but pumpkin), heavy whipping cream and vanilla davinci's and freeze the individual portions in zip lock baggies. I would then brew a pitcher of strong black coffee and put it in the fridge to chill.

I had a mini blender that would blend a 20 ounce drink into a travel mug - was maybe $15 at walmart.

In the morning, I would pop a bag of the frozen mixture out, break it in half and put it in the blender, add 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 2 raw eggs, and then top with the cold coffee. Blend it and go.

Tasted like a pumpkin milkshake.

If I want a shake I usually just throw protein powder, canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, peanut butter, coconut oil, HWC and almond milk all together. sounds like too many flavors at once, but very good.

I drink Atkins and EAS advantage shakes. I add unsweetened almond milk to them to make a large drink. I use them after working out too.

I have them as snacks as opposed to meal replacement, and use a combination of heavy cream & raw eggs in lieu of water so they taste dessert-y. Optimum Nutrition Casein in Chocolate Supreme is a great one I have at bedtime. The Syntrax ones are great, too! My personal limit for carb count is no more than 3 total grams per scoop.

I love Isopure protein powder for shakes. I mix the chocolate powder with milk and ice (you could use half and half or some heavy cream with ice and/or water) and mix the vanilla with blueberries or peanut butter. Two scoops of powder have 50g of protein and they are the best-tasting protein shakes I have had in a long time.

I'd love to have the amounts on the pumpkin/cream/davinci's!!! That sounds perfect for me. Right now I just do a scoop of protein powder, an egg, and coconut oil in my coffee and blend it up. This would be a great "change it up"!

I like these:
GNC Total Lean™ Lean Shake™ - Swiss Chocolate (or Vanilla Bean)
I try not to use them too often- they are premade and I like them for a really fast breakfast when I am running late for work.

My recipe...tweak away.

1/3 cup pumpkin
1/4 heavy cream
2 TBLS vanilla davinci's
1 packet stevia
2 shakes pumpkin pie spice

All this mixed in a freezer bag and frozen for the AM

Throw the frozen chunks in a blender with:
2 eggs
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1 cup chilled coffee or water

Blend & drink

I love the Atkins shakes also...I will add a large T of instant coffee to mine, or Torani syrup, or extracts to add flavors and get great combos I have drank a shake every morning for about 5 years now because I hate eggs for breakfast and a shake is a great "on the go" thing to take in my car on the way to work They fill me up until lunch usually

Good luck !

Thanks everyone yall helped me alot. I am trying to make a more strict diet plan for myself. A shake for when I first get up in the morning . Soup, lower carb for lunch, and for dinner I can be a little more flexable with my dinner and have a small amount of carbs. No snacks unless I get shaky and then it will be cheese or nuts.

At this point I think having some limits and eat almost the same thing for two meals it will take my mind off of dwelling of my food choices.

Just a little first step to get me going and to feel in better control.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!

I bought a few different flavors of LC Foods' smoothies, and I've been drinking those in the morning. I like them a lot. You add HWC and ice water and blend. The protein isn't super high, so if you wanted more I'm sure you could throw in some protein powder.

I like these the best. Atkins is a little thicker than EAS, but both are great. At home, I make my shakes with almond milk, protein powder and some frozen berries instead of ice for 'moderate' carbs.

A shake for breakfast and soup for lunch sounds like a lot of liquid foods...I don't think I could feel full on that but I am not you...a lot of shake and liquid food digest quickly and can spike blood sugar. If you chose a shake you may want to look for one that has more than one source of protein in it. Or add an egg or 2 to the shake if it is a whey only shake and perhaps some fat like tbs of cream or coconut oil to help keep you feeling full...I am not diabetic but I have heard that some experience the blood sugar spike from the shakes.

I would also look for a shake that does not contain malitol as it has a higher glycemic index.

Good luck with your plan.

Sounds great! I am thinking I may throw in some coconut oil as my tweak!
Thanks

I make shakes all the time. I have about 20 different flavors of DaVinci's and Jay Robb's (vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate) protein on powder on hand. I blend a variety of shakes with a club soda base, water, or white tea base and hwc. Then I add a scoop of protein and pour in some DaVinci's. I experiment all the time. The pumpkin one sounds good. I have some pumpkin pie DaVinci's too! The only concern I have is adding raw eggs. That kind of scares me.

It took me over a year to try them! You can not tell there is any egg in there at all!

Slimfast has a low carb ready to drink in creamy vanilla and dark chocolate. I like it as it has only 2g of sugar (none added) and 20g of protein. The regular slimfast has a huge amount of sugar and less protein and does not taste good to me.

Another one I like in the ready to drink class is Labrada's Lean Body in either vanilla or chocolate "ice cream" flavors. These have zero sugar and 25g of protein, 195 calories (actually the bottle says 180 but I weighed it and count as 195 cals).
