ketosis?
Hi buddds!
So I know ketostix aren't the most accurate and I don't think ketosis is a focus of juddd but I notice a strange trend and want to know what insight you all may have. I check for ketosis on the sticks each dd and every time I have an ud where I don't track food and (assumingly) go over my cals, I go into ketosis by the end of my next dd. If I track carefully to not overdo it I don't change the sticks. Anyone else have experience with this or know if that's good or bad? |

Yep, many of us who have tested on DDs are in ketosis. I can have a 200 gram/carb UD and the next DD I'll test pink.

JUDDD is neither a ketogenic diet nor a non-ketogenic diet. It's merely a plan of cycling your calories between your high and low ceilings, which are at, or even above, your maintenance number on Up Days, and at a very low number on your Down Days.. so low that you lose some weight. But whether you are in ketosis depends more on what food choices you make when you are filling your daily calorie allotment. Those food choices are up to each of us, and there is a very wide range of carbohydrate levels among us when you compare our diets/foods. Even normal non-dieting people can spill some ketone bodies into their urine during the course of their days, as our bodies do normally burn a mix of both carb fuel and fat fuel to keep us going during our days. Other than those who eat themselves into ketosis and have little carb fuel available within their bodies, people normally burn both fat and carb fuel types throughout their days. Most folks burn both types of fuel during the course of their normal days. For example, if the non-dieting person is going for a jog, he will burn a percentage in ratio of both fat and carb fuels, as he works out, and will actually burn more fat for fuel at a slower pace. When he picks up the pace and does some sprinting, his body will switch the percentage of his fuel sources, and call for more carbohydrate fuel in proportion to the fat being burned. So this person will be burning some fat during his day, which may spill some ketones into his urine, but he isn't eating a low carb diet, and isn't dieting, and isn't in ketosis. The vast majority of people who start very low carb diet plans and withhold almost all carbohydrate from their diets, still take several days before they are able to enter into the state of ketosis. Various carb numbers get kicked around, but it is currently thought that in order to enter into and remain in the state of ketosis, a person has to maintain a carb intake level of 50 daily carbs or less.. daily. Because if you eat at a carb level of say.. 250 daily carbs one day, that will have you well stocked up with carb fuel again almost immediately, and it usually takes folks two or three days to use up that carb fuel and get themselves back into their keto state again. That's why it's such a poor decision for most to go off their low carb plans with carb fests. That usually costs them days before they're back into ketosis again. Some of us here eat at a higher than ketosis level on UDs, and at a lower than ketosis level on DDs, and so may be teetering right on the cusp of ketosis all the time... in/out/in/out... Others of us eat at a carb level that simply precludes ketosis from occurring. That would be me. My eating choices put me at moderate carb overall, and that is a generous moderate carb most of the time. Even on my DDs, it's most usual that my carb numbers are well over 50. Well over 50. And on my UDs, I am usually at 150 carbs and up, up, up from there. Needless to say, I am never very close to being in ketosis. It isn't necessary to be in ketosis to lose weight. Many diet plans are non-ketogenic. But your overall food choices will determine whether you are truly IN the state of ketosis, have merely excreted a bit of ketone into your urine but not truly in ketosis, or simply don't go there. Good luck with your weight loss on JUDDD. No matter what carbohydrate level you enjoy eating at, feel fabulous at, thrive at, and lose weight at, I believe you'll love JUDDD!
