Is JUDDD do-able long term? -- my n=1 experiment.

So I reached Goal in March with JUDDD, then stopped "dieting".

For the past 4 months I've not been following any diet structure, just living life.

This morning I weighed in at 139, thats 6 pounds less than my goal number.

I've found my UD/DD rotation just happens without a lot of forethought, one day steak & sweet potatoe (higher calorie) and the next day shrimp & cauliflower(lower calorie). Still pretty much low carb but occasional carbier treats. Always enough to feel completely satisfied.

Conclusion: Yep, I CAN live like this!

Now maybe its time to start tracking again & move to the low end of my weight range.

Oh wow thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this!!!

You have no idea how much it means to someone like me who is just starting this journey to hear that you can have long term success and maintain without counting every calorie every day.

I try to be so positive but (as I'm sure we all can attest to) the fear of regaining my lost weight is there.

Thank you again and congrats on you maintaining your weight loss!!!

Sohappy - It really is a relaxed woe. After all these years of yo-yo dieting trying to get to goal I finally found juddd & reached it. Actually, I followed you & Beeb & Pooti here. Thank you.

Smi1es - Thanks. Juddd is like finally being able to take a deep breath. Every other diet I just started piling the pounds back on as soon as I eased up a bit. You're going to do great!

Good to hear from you, Cricket! WTG on the loss and great maintenance! I believe you will lose the weight that you want and maintain well - you're very relaxed with it and have proven to yourself you can do this. I like your cool, laid-back attitude. Rock on.

Started JUDDD 10/12/11 after LC.
MAINTENANCE since 11/12/11, & have lost more weight. I shake things up all the time with my version of Pirate Jenny's MUDDD, my "Fast 5" & other IF. ...low-moderate fat....and eating "healthy" foods 75+% of the time which lets me have real life and indulgences too I've reached my goals, improved my health & appearance, and enjoy my lifetime woe!

Thank you for your encouraging post!

I have "a ways to go" before maintenance... but it's so nice to hear that you made it there and can maintain.

I have had hope for years to be thin and stay thin (hence I saved some of my "skinny" clothes from many years ago); but I have also hung onto my larger sized clothes because I always "grew back" into them after going back to eating "normal."

Your post gives me hope and makes me believe that I can really give away my larger clothes without fear! Thank you

jodeeras: I'm a slow loser but moved steadily toward goal & now maintenance is so easy.

I kept my chubby clothes for a year after losing most of my weight but finally needed the space for smaller sizes. You're going to love packing up your big stuff knowing you'll never need them again.

I so agree with Smi1es...It relieves a bit of stress in me. I have given up on my dieting many times because of the complexity of it, and because of life getting in the way...To know that you are doing so well in "ballparking" the rotations is fantastic. It gives me so much hope that one day this will be me.

I've gotten rid of my skinny-minny clothes, my thin clothes, my not fat/not skinny, and my stocky clothes a few years back because of space.

I saved some in the chubby/"large marge tier" and up.. At this point I have no larger sized clothes. When I do.. I think I will get rid of them this time...

Wonderful! So glad maintenance is going so well for you. I haven't been able to let go quite yet mentally, but I'm working on it. And starting to trust that this is real, and I CAN relax a bit and not blow everything I've accomplished.

I have a question. I've read about the n=1 experiment. But - I don't understand what it means - what the "n" is and the "1" is. Or even what it means in total. Is it as basic as "whatever works for you"?

I've been maintaining well, too. I love this WOE! I don't count calories on UDs anymore, but I'm still very strict about 600 calories on DDs. That seems to be the formula that works for me. I'm glad you're doing so well!

I think n=1 just refers to an experiment on cause and effect with only one participant, rather than a control "group."

That's how I read it, though I'm admittedly no scientist.

This is nice to read! Congrats to you! I love that six more pounds have slipped away as well...

I think that n = 1 just means she did an experiment with one person participating- herself. Results of experiments will often include n = some number ( n = 50), and the number indicates the total participants in the experiment.

I "eased up" a bit too much in the past 3 weeks (vacations) and gained back 8 pounds...I seriously went hog wild though and am now paying for it. No one to blame but myself though.
