Some very good news regarding son with seizures, bad news for me though...

Sorry I've been absent lately, school vacations are crazy, even when the kids are not being carted all over town (we took a break from summer activities this year). So the good news is Zach (autistic son) is responding VERY well to his new anti seizure medication! He hasn't had a seizure since Saturday afternoon!! His neurologist even said to not change his diet because the meds are doing their job and it's not worth stressing Zach by switching him to Low Carb at this point, cutting out chips was recommended though . His personality is coming back in full force too, he's talking much much more and he's talking louder (for the last 2 months it has been barely a whisper when he said anything at all). Zombie Zach seems to be going away and good old Zach is coming back! I personally thank the coconut oil for his behavior/talking improving, he takes 1t in the morning and 1t at night....same as me . I love having me son back!!!

Now me on the other hand....I have NO motivation and have slipped off JUDDD, I know it's due to not checking in here every day (you guys motivate me!) and the stress of all the changes with Zach plus the new stress of my husband finding a swollen lymph node above his left clavicle (could be nothing could be lymphomia or stomach cancer). He has a ultrasound and needle biopsy next week.....UGH!!! Can you say STRESS! he had thyroid cancer 10 years ago and now more issues, I feel so bad for him....he's falling apart . Stress usually makes me unable to eat but this time I've been stuffing my face, no one to blame but myself. We're leaving for a mini vacation tomorrow (husband and eldest son are climbing MT. Washington on Saturday morning....I did it last year and am bowing out this year, me, Zach, and Matthew are going to Story Land! ). We will be walking a lot this weekend and I hope to get back on plan Monday morning, I'll be here scouring the board and finding my motivation . you guys are seriously Awesome!!

Becky, thank you so much for thinking to come in and let us know what the coconut oil and new med have done for your son! It sounds wonderful, and I know you are happy to see him perk up and be the more cheerful person he deserves to be! (Hurray, coconut oil!) All best wishes that your husband will find this to be no big deal.

How wonderful to read the good news about Zach and his response to his new medication! Yay! I know how happy your mother's heart must be about this. But scary to read about the lump your DH found above his clavicle. I hope this turns out to be nothing.

I know what you mean about checking in here at the JUDDD Forum to stay attentive and motivated with regards to our eating and weight loss/maintenance. I've stayed at LCF for years, just because it kept the subject of weight management in my mind. I come and go, as time or outside interests and needs dictate, but I always come back to touch base.

That is wonderful to hear about our son & hope all works out well with your husband. Try to relax as much as possible while you wait for his test results. Whatever it is, it already is ( easy for me to say, I know). It won't help or change anything except to make you miserable.

Have fun on your vacation!

Becky: So wonderful to read about Zach's come back. I hope and pray your DH will be OK and the biopsy results will be good. Have fun on your mini vaca and try to de-stress a bit.

And, Sweetie, you have your priorities in order. You will know and be motivated when the time is right to dive back in and focus on your weight. JUDD and the BUDDs will be here for you when you are ready.

Let us know if Monday is that day and we will be here with bells on to encourage you if we can! We got your back, K?

Becky, I cant imagine how hard it must have been to see your little man quiet and out of sorts of two months! There is nothing more difficult than a sick kiddo and not knowing how to fix it.

Lots of love and prayers for your husband.

Enjoy your mini-vacay!

So glad to hear the great news about Zach! I was wondering how things were going.

Glad to hear you're coming back here, and will pray this is nothing of any consequence for your DH.

We missed you!

His first anti seizure medication (Keppra) made him really tired and killed his appetite, I had to remind him to eat. He was having on average 4 seizures per day and they also made him tired, he was barely talking and spend most of his time in his room reading his Thomas the Train books (his favorite lately) or playing on the computer. I spent a lot of time trying to get him to go outside with me to play or go swimming, but he wanted nothing to do with it. old Zach used to beg to go outside to climb his tree and spend hours in the pool with me and his brothers or swing on the swings. It was really sad to see him sink even further into himself, he was never that outgoing being autistic and all and was never that verbal but he just turned into a quiet withdrawn boy . It is nice that he is popping out of it.

We'll see how he handles his upcoming 5 day hospital stay, the second week of September we (I'll be with him at all times) will be checked in and he'll have a 4 day EEG then on Friday he has an MRI and PET scan....should be interesting, last time he was sick of the hospital and we were only there for 2 days.

An update: over the weekend Zach has had 2 seizures (that we have seen...they happen so fast that I'm sure we miss some) while we were on vacation, so his new medication isn't perfect. He is still out of his shell and loaded with personality, so that is good!

As far as I go I restarted JUDDD this morning with a DD, so far so good!

It seriously feels like I'm constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop....we just got all caught up on our bills, paid off all our credit cards (thanks to Dave Ramsey...big thread on The Playground about him!) life was looking good, then Zach's seizures started up, now Chris's neck...I guess we just have to prepare for the worse and pray for the best.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this. Those without health problems do not realize how fortunate they are and how much heavier their pockets are Hang in there girl! Hopefully, it's just some lipoma or something and nothing to worry about! Please keep us posted on how things go

We have awesome health insurance, thank goodness! So money is not a concern. It's more the stress of not knowing anything. My Father in law found out her had stage 4 colon cancer and was given 6 months to live (he lived another 5 years!) but I can't even fathom the stress he and my mother in law had to deal with for those 5 years, the not knowing would drive me batty! Worse case my husband would have lymphoma or stomach cancer, both if caught early are very livable and curable. He already had thyroid cancer 10 years ago and that is gone.

I blame me being so stressed on being a Taurus, we hate change and not knowing....my husband's motto is 'worrying won't change anything, so don't worry'.....he's a pretty mellow guy.
