What is wrong with me???

I have been having success on Judd for over 6 weeks now, but the energy you all speak of, I do not have it. I am exhausted all the time, especially on DD's.
I never have energy, I'm too tired to do any thing. I get plenty of sleep, only wake 1 or 2x to pee at night, no problem falling asleep.
My Thyroid meds are optimized, my numbers are all good, but I am so tired. When I get home all I want to do is go to bed. I don't because I have a family to care for. Any ideas, suggestions? I really wish I felt the energy.

Hello Arlene, I have no idea if you have this problem, but I am menopausal and didn't even realize how much I didn't sleep??? I mean I thought I slept, but I didn't. I just began natural BioIdentical Hormones on June 1 and I sleep like I have never slept in years. I can't explain it. All I know is that I can really sleep deeply and dream. I never get up in the middle of the night feeling night sweats or needing to go pee. I truly sleep right through till the morn.

I am almost embarrassed to admit that I used to fall asleep in class or even at a stop light while driving. I think I was suffering from lack of a deep sleep.

I'm sorry you're feeling that.
I don't really have it either.
(However--I don't like that super-energetic feeling.
I have bipolar disorder & it feels too much like a manic episode;
I end up with insomnia or I start massive projects--
like I'll clean/reorganize until I hurt my back or something.
So I *try* to stay mellow & on an even keel).

However, I don't like feeling drained and listless either!!!

Do you take any vitamins?
B-vitamins can be helpful for energy.
If you're not taking them, I recommend adding a B-complex before trying anything else.

Magnesium can help you sleep more deeply.
It is known as a relaxant but it is also needed for hundreds of functions in the body, so if you're not getting enough, it may lead to fatigue.

One more thing...lol...try to get plenty of Omega-3s.
Nutrients can't get in & out of our cells easily if we don't get enough -3s.
So a person could otherwise be nourishing themselves *perfectly*,
but not getting the full benefits of the nutrients.
I find the supplements to be rather expensive, so I try to eat fish (herring is my favorite) and chia seeds every day.

I worked at health food stores for several years and spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on every darn thing we sold that was supposed to help with energy.
The only one that I felt really made a difference was E3 live--a blue-green algae (sold frozen).

Another thing was buying rocker-sole shoes!!!
Are you on your feet a lot during the day?
Aside from relieving back & foot pain, as soon as I started wearing these shoes, I had so much more energy! At the end of my 8-hr shift, I would feel like I'd only been working one or two hours!!!

hope you feel better soon!

PS--Oh, and yerba mate. I would make a pitcher of it (mixed with mint tea) and sip it all day.
It has caffeine but coffee gives me jitters/insomnia/manic motormouth and mate just gives me lovely steady energy.
I wouldn't even realize how much energy it gave me until I forgot to bring it to work!

I agree with the suggestion of a good B-complex vitamin. Makes all the difference in the world for me.

Also might want to think about working in some high potassium foods on your DD if you're feeling "washed out". I know that for me, especially in the summer, I sometimes need to supplement. I feel a TON better after I've eaten something high in it or take a half (sometimes a whole) 99mg caplet if I'm low.

Some of these are higher than others, calorie-wise, but there are some good lower calorie choices on the list:

Definitely on the potassium! Two other things that help me with energy, in general, are L-Carnitine, and a supplement called Bio-PQQ . Don't know if that is helpful or not, lol...

I agree with the suggestions above.

Also, do you snore? I was diagnosed with sleep apnea five years ago and my whole life changed/improved when I started sleeping with a cpap machine.

From some posts I have read, I think that DD energy only happens after JUDDD healing reaches a certain point. With some bodies, that can take time. Are you getting NSVs - signs of reduced inflammation and health improvements?

I hate having no energy, I'm feeling it now again because I'm back on hcg. The first days are always bad.
I felt an amazing energy boost when I turned vegan. Never expierenced that before. I truly believe that food is all what it is abou. Or if you are deffience in something, maybe you should make a blood check, if you haven't already.

Hope you are getting your energy back soon!

Hi - I don't know what food you are eating on JUDDD but for me I am very tired if I eat carbs & am fine on LC.

Salt was my answer. I haven't added salt to food for years but have started drinking sea salt in my water and it has made a big difference for me.

Arlene, my first instinct is thyroid, even if you're optimized, and only because I've been on JUDDD for 6 months and had the energy very briefly before my thyroid crashed and burned. Since then, I have not had the energy or the NSVs everyone else talks about. I don't know if my meds are optimized yet (just had bloodwork again on Thursday, so we'll see), so mine could still be that, but I totally get what you're saying.

I'd LOVE to have the energy and reduced inflammation, etc. I know before my thyroid crashed I was healing faster from injuries with JUDDD. Now it seems to take forever. I'm thrilled with just losing weight though, so I'm sticking with it!

Oh yes, I forgot about salt!
I buy unrefined sea salt, Celtic salt, or Himalayan salt.
I have no qualms about using as much as I want, or taking an 1/8 tsp whenever I feel like I need it (groggy, dehydrated, sweating too much, going to the bathroom too often).
Salt helps you stay hydrated!!!


By the very nature of DDs, it could be difficult to get enough nutrients and electrolytes.
Obviously it affects some of us differently--some people thrive while fasting, others can barely function. Again, I think it has something to do with how we access the nutrients stored in our bodies.

I take potassium every day, but might take an extra if I feel like I'm retaining water or have had too much refined salt. NuSalt is a super-cheap source of potassium. I recently ran out of pills, and made my own by filling gelatin caps with NuSalt!

I second the L-Carnitine suggestion!
L-Tyrosine can be helpful, too. I took it a while back but could ONLY take it first thing in the morning, or I'd be a wild thing at night!!!

(PS--please google everything and make sure you feel safe before adding anything.
I do think B-complex is quite safe, as they are water-soluble vitamins and any excess will be flushed out of the body)

Thanks ladies, okay to address a few things, I do not snore i sleep well. I do not take any supplments, potassium sometimes for leg cramps but nothing regular except my Thyroiid meds.

I am due to get more blood work, so i will get the labs done but last few times they have been good. I do take a lot though 150mcg. I do not eat a lot of salt, I do eat a lot of veggies and chicken, DH is on a diet so I try to keep it all low calorie.

Maybe vitamins is where to start I was hoping I woud feel all the other nsv from juddd but I dont, not with inflamation, not really in inches either just the scale moving down.

Stay away from flour, potatoes, sugar, corn, and anything made with flour to see if you feel better. I did a little over a year ago and it saved my life. I was ready to retire and had even gone so far as to think about a nursing home or in home health care. I was able to work (I teach kindergarten in a public school, year 32 coming up) but could barely function. I took control of my sickly self (asthma and beginning of arthritis) eliminated just about every smidgen of carbohydrate in my life and within three days, felt like a new woman. I am 60...was 263 pounds and am at 195-199 now. JUDDD is going to help me get to 150. I attend Weight Watchers (I prepaid for 16 weeks) and eat low carb DD and UD. Good luck honey. You probably have some kind of allergy that is dragging you down or perhaps you are just tired. We can be tired you know, it is the body telling us to slow down and give it some rest.

I agree with 50by60, you may have some underlying food intolerance which can cause fatigue. As she suggested, try cutting out all dairy, eggs, and wheat products to start with and see how you feel. Those are the most common allergens. You don't have to necessarily have allergy symptoms such as hives, asthma, etc. to be allergic. The damage is done internally and effects your energy levels.

I had a blood allergy test done a year ago and found out I was intolerant to wheat, eggs, casein and some other stuff. I cut those items out of my diet and feel soooooo much better!!

Wow, so many things to look into to fix your energy level hopefully! **fingers crossed**

I do want to mention again about the snoring/sleep apnea issue. I have been a respiratory therapist for 25+ years, and this is what I know about snoring and sleep apnea...those who have it almost always don't know they have it, the person they sleep with is usually the one to identify the snoring OR that it looks like you are not breathing. And also, your chest and/ or tummy may move and it may look like you are breathing, but no air is moving in and out of your mouth, this is why it is called obstructive sleep apnea. If your low energy level has been an issue for a while, I personally would check this out with a pulmonologist - a lung specialist. When heavier patients complain of severe fatigue often this is one of the first things addressed.

This comment made me wonder if you're getting enough fat. Without sufficient fat, it's impossible for our bodies to use many of the vitamins we take in with our food. Are you eating good quantities of healthy fats: mainly, butter, olive oil, and coconut oil? I know you may find it difficult to get in enough fat on DDs, which makes it particularly important to eat lots of healthy fats on UDs.

Good luck tracking down the source of your low energy. Like many other posters, I found B vitamins (a 50 mg supplement) and fish oils to be very helpful. Regular exercise each day also helps enormously--walking is fine if you don't have options for other kinds of exercise.

How often do you get your levels checked? Wanting to sleep is my first big indicator that the thyroid levels have changed. I get mine checked every three months.

How much sugar/sugar substitutes are you having? Either can cause blood sugar spikes which can create that drug out feeling. I eat them (except no diet pop) but if I do it very often I feel drug out. If you are having goodies fairly regularily (I saw that gorgeous candy bar cake and heard about the yummy lemon bars and then there's the diet pop) then the impact might be that you don't leave enough room for the foods which provide the nutritional elements that your body needs? Sometimes I think that my weight-loss slow downs, or bumps, are my body yelling at me[I] ]Where's the real food?"

Also, what about some low level food allergies, could that be possible?

Thank you ladies for all the ideas. One thing interesting that you mention that I did not think of is egg allergies. Since Juddd I am eting 2 eggs every other day. Ill stop that for awhile and see if it helps. I do get blood work done every three months too so my Thyroid will be checked soon. really have little dairy in my diet so i doubt its that. Flour maybe? Connie I have had those treats on a couple different weekends but i dont do that every day, and Im feeling like this daily. Last night I started taking more Vit D and Iron, and I will pick up some Vit. B (What kind?)

Tiva - I do have butter with the eggs and bacon almost every UD, plus SF cream in my coffee, I want to start exercising, walking on my treadmill, but I am honestly too tired. I have book work for my business to complete every evening but I have been too tired to do them too.

It can take more than six weeks to get the gene -enzyme -energy thing. But as everyone has contributed you need to find the right food balance, supplements and timing for your health. Its a bit of a game so go ahead and enjoy playing trial and error.
I have the best energy and "feelings " when I fast. We are all so different.
nothing wrong with going to bed early, I'm wondering if your sleep cycle and melatonin hormones cycle are going through some healing adjustment

How do you know your thyroid mess are optimized? What tests are you having done? You may know all this already, but if it is TSH and not "free" and reverse t3 levels then they may be missing something.

What you describe is exactly how I feel when my reverse t3 is high. All the other numbers look OK.

I say see your doc and get blood work. I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that put all my symptoms and horrid fatigue into a context. Can't do much about it, but at least I understood better the "whys"--

Arlene, make sure they are checking your iron and vit D levels too. I'm anemic in addition to being hypo and low D. Talk about tired!

Hi Arlene,

Plenty of good advice from everyone. They've given you a lot to consider.

You didn't mention when your lack of energy began. Has it been since you started dieting 1/1/12 and have lost the 30+ pounds or was it ongoing before then? Has it just recently become more pronounced? I think your doctor will want to know the timeline. I know you said you were hoping for more energy from JUDDD. I for one haven't seen any change in myself yet.

Anyways, keep us updated and let us know what your doctor says on your next visit. Till then, listen to your body and get extra rest and look into the things your BUDDDs suggested. Hope you find the answer soon.

How was your visit with your brother by the way?

Hi all... been so busy lately, thanks for all the replys. Amy I am thinking it may be iron and Vit D too, I have been low in both iron was down to an 8 last time it was checked, but I was having some "bleeding issues" which has since stopped. Vit D was low too but I stopped taking it. My plan is to go see my regular Dr and get a full check up. My Thyroid Dr I only see 2x a year then he calls with my blood results every 3 months. So Ill start will a full panel and work from there, thanks all.

Heather - It went great with brother, everyone had a great time, no real heart to heart but thats okay.
