Need advice
Today is an UD but I have managed to only eat ~800 cals. I am sitting in the hospital all day with my son who had a ruptured appendix. Heading home in a bit but have two options - stuff myself late in the day to get my UD cals in or make it another (high-ish) DD and make tomorrow an UD. Thoughts?

Well, I'm just a newbie at JUDDDing and in the wrong position to give advise, but if I was in your situation I think I would not try to make up all the calories so late in the evening but rather make it a medium day and start off anew tomorrow. I am sure one of the wonderful pro's on this site will come along soon with the right answers! I really would like to know what to do in situations like this myself!
Best wishes for your son, I hope he is better soon! |

How long does he have to stay?
![]() ![]() I'd say, go MD, eat if you're hungry, but don't force yourself to your full amt of cals. So then the question is-- if you go MD today, tomorrow should be an UD, then DD the next day, which basically changes your rotation. Not sure if that's an issue with any pre-planned activities coming up? You can always do another MD and change back. I know that you shouldn't do a DD after a MD though, b/c you sort of need to "eat up" in preparation. So that's what I would do, if it were me. And fwiw-- I also lose weight in times of serious, serious stress. Not the way you want to do it, I can tell you that. ![]() Soren

You don't do a DD after a MD.....really???? I had my week planned so that I could keep the MWF as DDs sat as a UD and sun as a MD. This isn't a good idea? Or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks all for the good advice and good wishes. Had some fabulous frozen yogurt on the way home from the hospital and am calling it a MD. Now I have an UD to look forward to and can plan better for eating in the hospital.

Yes, Trying JUDD, I'd let it be a MD, too. Bless your heart having to deal with this, and prayers for a quick recovery for your son.
dee, I did the schedule of DD Fri, UD Sat, MD Sun, DD Mon for a while during maintenance and had no ill effects, thinking of the UD a recuperation, or building back, from a DD. Then, back here on this board again to correct a slip out of maintenance, mykidsteacher reminded me that DDs need plenty of calories ahead of them, and suggested it would be better to go DD, MD, UD, DD. I've done that for several weeks now and have continued to have consistent losses and feel fine. I never got the feeling my old schedule was necessarily making my DDs harder, but it does make sense to head into each DD "fully fueled". |

Well I suppose I could just go with he natural flow and if a DD lands on a Saturday, I could make it a MD? My theory FWIW is that it would be best if my DDs were all work days. Not as dangerous as being home or on the go. Is thAt how others do it?

I have no problems with DD's at home. I have a frig at work and all kinds of food around so it isn't any different at work than at home so I just stick to the DD/UD rotation. I can confuse myself too easily to throw another type of day in there. I have to write UD and DD on the calendar as it is.

How many calories should a MD be? My UD cals are 1900 & my DD cals are 550-650.

Then you're right there with me at about a 1,200 calorie MD, Tammy. You average the two numbers to come up with the MD number.
But, always make sure the SIRT-1 gene has kicked in for you before you consider leaving exact alternation. Minimum of 2 weeks, and since some people need more, err on the side of caution. I consider it sporadic, just like our ancestors' diets when the SIRT-1 gene was working for them. Even when my work schedule wasn't the problem, the rest of the family was still operating with an eye to the calendar for work and school. So with the household always having to think Monday-through-Friday scheduling, it's been helpful to me that the family understands Mom will be on DDs MWF. |

I would take this opportunity to splurge on something you've been dying to eat but would not normally spend the calories on! YUM! I said a prayer for your son
