This may be a dumb question, but is it ok to cook your veggies in butter on a low carb diet?

Make sure it's real butter, and not that margarine stuff.

I prefer Kerrygold, or anything that says "pure Irish butter" on it.

Thanks you guys so much! I've been on this diet for a while and I'm not sure why, but I've been avoiding butter until now. It's going to be a lot easier to tolerate these vegetables now that I know this!

Even better if you can get butter made from grass fed dairy cows. Grass fed butter is full of Omega 3 fatty acids--the good ones you also find in cold water fishes. And it's loaded with Vitamin K2, which helps your body make and regulate calcium for strong bones, teeth and heart health. Plus, fat is what helps us use the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) in our diet. And, there is plenty of proof that dietary fat--even saturated fat--does NOT increase our "bad cholesterol".

Knowing all of this, can you imagine why we ever thought fat--especially butter--was unhealthy???

And I second Allie Cat. NO FAKE BUTTER--the real thing and plenty of it is good for you. Stay away from manufactured garbage.

For a good spreadable butter, try "Mo Betta Butter" Allow a couple of sticks of butter to come to room temperature and whip it up with a cup of light olive oil. You can mix as much as you want and can make it even more spreadable by going with more oil...the extra light olive oil is white in color and has no olivey taste....you get the benefits of both.

I just fried 3 eggs in a tablespoon of butter fot a late dinner after work. Butter tastes so good compared to margarine but it is better for you.

I think it is wise to stick with grass fed if possible.

I second Janknitz' grassfed recommendation. Kerrygold is grass-fed. I get it from Trader Joe's. I buy blocks of it for work and home.

Yes, it is far better to use a quality butter than any type of butter substitute. Substitutes are normally a concoction of low quality, inflammation promoting vegetable oils which are at best partially rancid and contain transfats and extraction solvent residue. Kerrygold is a popular choice available at some supermarkets.

There's Atkins (original '72 or New), South Beach, Protein Power, SugarBusters, etc...

Some are a littler higher on fat intake and others lower, some allow (encourage) a higher intake of carbohydrate, and some are much more restricted.

Butter is a fat - pure fat - so by definition, it has no carbohydrate. Neither do olive oil, coconut oil, sesame seed oil, and a host of other options. Because of the highly important role fats plan in health, you should avoid fake fats (margarine, cottonseed oil, rapeseed, soybean...) inasmuch as possible. They are bad for you!

Yes!Butter and bacon fat are my 2 staples.When i cook large amounts of bacon i save all the fat drippings and use it to sautee veggies ,chicken or whatever i have around it gives the best flavor ever!

I love my butter. I buy cultured sweet cream butter for everyday use and freeze pastured, salted butter for special uses. Great stuff.
