Fascinating reading from the Leangains site about water retention, especially when you severely restrict calories.

I didn't realise you could retain so much water. Based on what he says it might be worth having a relaxed day off with moderate carbs a glass of wine and a stroll in the park to break a stall. Just keep off the salt and drink a lot of water.

Seems those of us who are really pushing for weight loss with lots of working out and low DDs might be lining up for massive water weight problems.

No, according to the article JUDDD is ideal, as the UDs would balance the low-calorie DDs. That's why JUDDD is designed this way.

It would be a continuous series of DDs that would cause the problems explained in this article.

Thank you. That was very interesting. It might also back up why JUDDD works so well is that it keeps the body's fluid retention and cortisol levels down unlike standard calorie reduction diets.

stargazer, you always seem to bring informative articles or books for discussion. Thanks for keeping an eye out.

These concepts (though I have not seen so much information in one place before and need to read twice) are why I often have a DD like yesterday, when I eat with an eye to limiting sodium. According to this, I also should consider much more water on those days.

To his list of diuretic foods, I would add alfalfa, usually taken in capsule form, which has certainly proven itself a diuretic without relying on the water content in the original food itself.

I am struggling with water retention right now - thanks for posting this, it was a good read.

Humid weather + a new workout schedule is causing me to maintain. I know it's water because, aside from the scale, I can feel it in my fingers and joints. Ah well...perseverance and patience! Need to stock up on those

Pirate Jenny gave me a link to the watecure and I have been adding salt to my water and it has made a big difference in my water retention. This article also talks about big jolts of sodium which is what I was doing to myself since I did not add salt to anything I ate so when I ate a salty food I puffed up. I am not doing that now due to having salt in smaller quantities daily.
