How does alcohol affect your scale?

I don't seem to have unreasonable moves in my scale bounce from a glass of wine with dinner (4-5 oz pour)
But, I think actual liquor is a detriment.
I have only had a cocktail (no or very low sugar) a few times since starting IF, and I think it really bumps my weight up. I am up 4 pounds since yesterday and my eating was reasonable and low carb to accommodate the alcohol carbs.

Have you tracked effects of alcohol on yourself?

I don't notice any difference when I drink wine (and I'll often have 2-3 glasses, sometimes a bit more ).

I do think when I have margaritas I don't lose, and even go up a little bit. I'm not usually sensitive to sodium, but I wonder if the combination of salt/alcohol makes me retain water.

I've found it's a really confusing wild card in the diet. You can get a real whoosh after a day including alcohol. You can lose a lot of water. It can also "hurry up" other eliminations. But of course this is not fat loss. The whoosh will instantly turn into a bounce once you drink water and eat.

The other effect can be more hunger later in the day the next day. Some can get sugar cravings.

But the most important issue is that half a bottle of wine (what we tend to drink in the UK if having it with a meal) or two shots with mixers adds upwards of 200 calories. Quite a dent in your numbers, and all "empty" of any nutrients to sustain you through fasts.

I'm no angel and I tend to binge at weekends. I've learned with JUDDD that it's just not worth it and can really screw up your diet. So I'm making an effort to stick to one drink a night at weekends. You also realise that it effects you more, the less you eat and also the thinner you are.

ive been talking about this (as always) again in the daily weigh in tracker.
for a couple weeks i had red wine before bed and i lost fine. however 3 of the last 5 weeks ive drank a lot on a weekend day and those weeks losses have been very VERY low.
and im not doing bad things like eating after drinking.
last week was low carb beer, this weekend was gin and diet soda.
soooo at this point i think its slowing me down, A LOT!

on low carb it helped but not so much with ths and genuiley think this is the problem
cuts my losses by half at least

That's interesting.

After a week of low carb and losing well I drank at the weekend and I've gained back two pounds despite keeping calories in the range. I'm thinking it's the water retention that causes all this. The rebound effect from all the quick water loss can last for 2-3 days.

The body hangs on to water in anything you eat or drink the day after a drinking night more than it would without the alcohol.


Exercise will help.

Wine is ok for me in moderation but if I drink liquor I'm always up a ton. The other night I drank too much and was up 5lbs. I'm still trying to get it off and that was sat night. I don't do it often. Itsnot worth it. 1 shot and I'm ok or 1 glass of wine but more than that and it hurts me for at least a week.

I don't believe my body knows what a whoosh is. Never had one. Not in over a decade of lowcarb and not now. Slowly fighting it off but still up dang it.

There is some research that suggests it stalls weight loss significantly. Perhaps we differ in how much of a stall that is? It's about hormone balance, not just calories.

I'm cutting it out totally for a month. I find it really tricky to stick to just one drink so I'd rather not do it at all. I'm in a hurry to drop the next 20 lbs before the summer is over, and if this helps it's worth the sacrifice. Besides, my liver will love the rest.

I believe this for me personally. My weight loss was doing well JUDDDing and it seemed that something changed, so I completely gave up wine until I get to goal. I only have a swirl or marg on birthday celebrations or special occasions which has been quite a while. Everyone is different and others have no prob.

Alcohol does not seem to effect my weight loss one way or the other. ..... But then, I am highly sensitive to it - a tablespoon or so does not matter much calorically, but is enough to send me giggling down the street.

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

Gah! Well that resolution didn't last long. A beautiful sunny weekend in the garden just BEGS for a glass of cold white wine. I succumbed. Actually the scales showed a whoosh this morning but it may all go back on tomorrow. This will be interesting.

When I have a whiskey with 7-up the next day I show a loss! I should of said a couple not "a". Also a couple beers and I also show a loss!

I failed to add that I always show a loss the following day, but then the 2nd day I wake up to either an extra pound or a stall that lasts a few days.
I have been sticking to my guns about not having any wine and it has made my memorial weekend, somewhat challenging, but I am determined to see if it can make a difference. One thing for sure, it keeps me from eating mindlessly or unsoberly () because I am well aware of everything I eat and no more oops!

wine doesn't seem to affect me, but liquor is now on my nonononono list. I am up almost six pounds since Sat morning after having cocktails Sun. DRAT
