DD = Sleepless nights

I've noticed on my DDs that I have trouble staying asleep at night. I'll get up at 3AMish to pee, then can't go back to sleep because my brain kicks in. I am totally alert.

BUT on UDs, I can oftentimes (like last night) sleep through the night. I'm going to try saving most of my DD calories for dinner. Maybe I just need more food (proteins/fats) to keep me asleep?

Thanks for any input!

I also have trouble sleeping after a DD. I am sure it is the hunger. I think the answer, for me at least, is to save some cals to have a bit of carb before bed. Problem is, I never have any cals to save!!

Me too. I have to read to fall asleep and then it is sometimes a challenge. I was concerned that I was getting up too often, because I sometimes get up to pee more than once.

When I did low carb, and my body was in ketosis, I had more energy and needed less sleep. If I ate normal, my energy level was much lower and I slept longer. I do know that on DD's, I can pee on the stick and my body is in ketosis. Maybe because your body is in fat burning stage, it doesn't need as much sleep....I don't know. I also know that as I lost weight, I didn't seem to need as much sleep. I can remember waking up at 4 every morning and not being able to get back to sleep....my body had gotten what it needed and that was that.

I wake up at four every morning, UD or DD, and it doesn't matter if I go to sleep at 8:00 p.m. or midnight. I take Benadryl before bed though, and it has the same active ingredient in most OTC sleep aids, so I'm not a "normal" case study.

JUDDD got me where I want to be!

I had the same problem...
--I felt like delaying/skipping breakfast might have been messing with my hormones & circadian rhythm, so I started eating an early, high protein breakfast ("Leptin Rx"). This made it harder to stick to DD calories, but I did sleep better.

--I started taking DE, and I've been sleeping really well, regardless of almost* all other factors that would usually wreak havoc with my sleep.

Thanks for those links piratejenny-I am researching the DE and actively searching for something natural that will help me sleep, as I also am suffering on my DD to fall asleep. I take melatonin and add benadryl but some nights I toss and turn for hours and I really am one who needs her sleep desperately. Appreciate you sharing your experiences and how it has helped you and if I do decide to try it I will be happy to share my experiences.

Interesting! I too have trouble going to sleep on DD's. Normally, I fall asleep in less than a minute but NOT on DD's.

I can't help myself it is the aromatherapist in me! 15 drops lavender essential oil and 10-15 drops roman chamomile essential oil in one ounce sesame or olive oil Any carrier oil is fine. Is a lovely blend to bring about sleep. It is essential that they be true essential oils, no imposters. A cup of chamomile tea helps as well.

Same here on most DDs especially if it has been a really lowcal DD. I sleep better if I have a snack before bed like cottage cheese. I don't always have the cals left though either. I get up at least 3 times a night to lee and have for a very long time but most nights I go right back to sleep. Some nights after a really low Cal DD I get up to per and it takes forever to go back to sleep. Sometimes I'm dwydreaming about food...lol. sometimes I'm just antsy. There have been times I will go ahead and get up about 330 or 4 in the morning and make a mug of hot chocolate with almond milk and cocoa and lay on my chaise with my kindle and read and drink my hot chocolate and I will fall back to sleep for an hour or 2. Doesn't always work but I still enjoy the hot chocolate.
