Found my magic DD food finally...

Cream of Wheat of all things! Hadn't had it since low carb started and decided to try it again. 3 Ts, the recommended serving, is only 120 calories and 23 g of carbs, which allows me to stay in my moderate carb range. And, oh my goodness, I doubled the recipe and had a HUGE bowl last night around 6ish and slept like a baby. And I was choking the whole thing down, so next time, TOMORROW, I'll make one serving in the a.m. and one in the p.m.

I think I've finally found something filling and satisfying - my appetite is out of control, so the "filling" part is what I needed.

With a large salad thrown in there, I think I'll live to see another UD.

Thanks so much for sharing!! I am at the end of my DD with maybe 80+ calories left. I am trying to hold off using them until just before bed.

Sunday, my next DD, I will be trying Cream of Wheat for sure.

Yay!! I'm glad you've found something that works for you!!!!

My goodness, I haven't had cream of wheat in years!! I like the lumps, so I used to dump it in quickly instead of slowly mixing it in. I may have to try it again.

Ooooh, cream of wheat was one of the first things I added in my diet.
I grew up on it, and hadn't had it in years, but now, it's a go-to food for me.

Oh, and I like the lumps, too!

Awesome that you found what works for you!! I used to have a bowl of cream of wheat every day as a kid. I think I loved the cream and brown sugar my mom dressed it with more than the cream of wheat itself!! I can't eat it now as I have to avoid wheat, but it brings back memories. Mom also made chocolate cream of wheat pancakes.

I think cream of wheat is farina. Ahhhn yes, I looked it up.

During the economic panic of 1893, a small flour mill in Grand Forks, N.D. somehow managed to survive. When they began to run out of operating funds, one of the millers suggested the owners try making and marketing a hot porridge made from the part of the wheat called farina. The owners agreed and sent a sample to their New York brokers. The product made an impression and the brokers switched their order from flour to porridge. Within five years, the demand for Cream of Wheat grew so much that they had to move from Grand Forks to Minneapolis, Minn. to be nearer to freight options and suppliers. Since its humble beginnings, Cream of Wheat has provided a hot breakfast to generations of Americans.

Features

Cream of Wheat consists of farina, or meal made from wheat. Originally described as made from the first roll, or best cut of wheat, it became very popular as a healthy, hot and wholesome grain food based in part on its white color. Throughout most of the 1800s, white bread had been expensive and only for the wealthy. Grain manufacturing advances had recently made white bread less expensive and people were buying it as a middle-class status symbol as much as for its soft, doughy texture. Cereals at the time were made from whole grain porridge. They were cooked all night and were light brown in color. Cream of Wheat's white color fed into the public's image of white grain foods as a status symbol of comfort, plenty and middle class. It was not until later in the 1900s, after Americans had consumed years of white-flour foods instead of whole-grain foods, that health professionals began to link the loss of whole grain in the diet caused by over consumption of white-flour products to a host of health issues such as obesity and heart disease.

I have never tried Cream of Wheat! Today is a DD for me and I am going to pop out and buy some! Filling and not too high in calories sounds perfect. Thanks for the idea.

Oh, my, it's good to hear this suggestion. I love cream of wheat in the AM. With a couple sprays of ICBINB, I think I can be more satisfied. Not very fond of eggs and even less fond of egg substitute! Would have never thought to add it to my dinner meal though. thanks for this helpful, enlightening post.

I have Oat Bran and it is very much like your Cream Of Wheat but with less calories. I buy it in bulk in the health food section. 1 Tablespoon of the raw uncooked is only 14 calories!!! Super good, filling, and swells up a lot, so 2 - 3 Tablespoons is enough for me!

Of course I then top it with milk.

Make it in the micro, fast, good, cheap and low calorie!

Oatmeal does this to me! 1/4 cup, dry then cooked with a little PB2 powder and some brown sugar sweetener and I'm good for HOURS!! It's usually my first "go to" to start my eating on my DDs because it keeps me full for so long!

Awesome!!! You know, I have been wondering what would happen if I tried one of my old favorites, grits, on down days. I thought that the carbs might make me hungrier during the day, but I think I'll make tomorrow a test and see. I used to love putting a fried egg in my grits and mixing it all up. Mmmmmm.

I'd make some right now, but I have fried chicken I must eat today.

I like Cream of Wheat, but wheat can give me issues, so I sub Cream of Rice...YUM!! I also just made my first bowl of Quaker old fashioned oats this morning, havn't had it for literally years! I added in 1T of grape jelly and 1/2 T butter and it was really good! I really like it with butter and brown sugar but there was a lack of brown sugar in the pantry.

I love cream of wheat. I usually save for my UD's though. I love with real sugar and lots of real butter!!!!! It ends up to many calories for a DD!!! lol!!! But its my go to when I cant get enough UD calories in!!!

On DD's I like grits with some boiled shrimp. That fills me up!! Dont have it very often, more as a I need something different thing!

It's funny, for me when I have scrambled eggs in the morning I'm hungry an hour later but if I have toast or a bagel or other carbs (I had oatmeal this morning) and I'm fine for hours...

LOL I just realized how fickle I am about food! I'm going to have half salt and pepper and helf brown sugar cinnamon..taste test in progress.
