What are your calorie levels?

I used the calculator and here is what I came up with:

2186 up day and 482 down day (I used light exercise)

I just started with my first DD yesterday. I couldn't survive at 482, so I ate 600. It was very manageable. What levels are you at? Should I strive to get my DD down to 500???

2136/427

I was staying below both days and was losing pretty well. I'm now trying to get closer to around 2100/500 and am actually losing better.

I'm 5'10", 223.6 lbs, and I use sedentary for my calculations.

For the best chance at getting those sirtuins activated, I'd say you should try to get down to 500 for a couple of weeks. However, many have been very successful sticking at 600-700 all along.

I began at 1500/500 and realized that I needed to up UD and lower DD. It seems to be 1800/300. You will find that the longer you are JUDDDing the DD become much more manageable and you can fast to your DD number. Someone who is in my age group, 54, needs to be cognizant of the best numbers, because it is sort of tricky. My current weight 185 and my weight loss is pretty slow, but that is okay, as long as it never goes up. I wonder because I have seen others be able to lose at the lower numbers, if it is best to keep it higher???

Monica, totally fine to stay at 600 until the hunger suppression kicks in. It gets easier when the enzymes get flowing. For some this happens in a couple weeks, others need 3-4. So if 600 keeps you on plan, it's fine. You still have a nice wide gap between your UD/DD numbers, so that will kick in the sirtuin enzymes.

You are on your way! Enjoy your UD today.

For the first 2 weeks - I would re-calculate without any exercise, this will bring your UD numbers down a bit. For DD, I would stick to 500 - but allow yourself to go to 600 - if you need it.

Dr Johnson says that 500 cals is okay to kick in the SIRT1 Enzyme - and 600 to start shouldn't hurt.

Thanks for the information. I am will try to get my DD to 500. I get shakey/hypoglycemic very easily so I stick with protein based stuff on my DD. The Pure Protein shakes are perfect with 23 g of protein and only 120 calories but by 5:00 p.m. I was HUNGRY and needed to EAT!

I tend to disagree with having to get down to 500 or even starting there is you KNOW (like I did ) that it will be a set up to maybe make you fail on the WOE. I know I wouldn't be here if I hadn't "pushed" the rules a bit right from the start! AND I have never lowered my DD calories, ever. I ate less on some days but not on purpose, it's just the way it goes that certain day. I know it's suggested to keep those DD to 500 or below but JUDDD is also forgiving enough that we can up those calories some (I did/do 700) and STILL do amazingly well!

If you need more calories then have more calories. It's really the gap, in my opinion, that makes JUDDD work; the calorie restriction from day to day that gives us the JUDDD "magic", not necessarily the number on DDs. If the gap is large enough, the plan will work. I am proof of this with my starting calories of 700/1650.

This may help, too: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ju...ing-juddd.html

I'm new too.... 1850/500... (I on the little side and I'm pretty active )

I blew my first up day, totally went over. As far as being hungry at night, this is what I do. I plan my UD and DD to have my last bit of food right before bed. That helps me sleep better, I do not wake up hungry, and can push out my breakfast most times to 11 or 12. It has helped a lot with the afternoon shakes and growls.

So far I am 3 pounds down 4 days in... so far so good.

1588/476 at 30% and little exercise.

My actual DDs range from 100 to 600 calories, with the average being 500.

My UDs, well I just figured out I have been eating way below what I thought I was and what I should be (special note: don't just weigh and measure to make sure you have the calories ... you have to remember to chew and swallow them too )

Hopefully this is the reason the scale has not changed much lately (inches kept vanishing though ).

Hmmm, do you think as long as there is approx 1,000 calorie difference, it should work? That would be a big gap, wouldn't it? So, maybe 1700/700 ?

I tend to stay around 1500/500. My dd cal # is lower, but I'm not comfortable with that, and so stay around 500 in wlm. For maint, I go up to 1700/800.

I just went to the juddd site and my numbers are very high. I am 5'2 143 lbs

For wt loss: Light exercise 20% wt loss

DD: 545
UP 2727!!!!! calories

this does not seem right compared to others. I will only be able to lose weight if i eat 2727 a day!!!! I can manage the 545 but 2727 sounds awefully generous.

And do I need to keep recalculating it as I lose weight? For example If I lose 10 lbs I would be I would eat 2500 UD?

If I maintain at 133 lbs I get to eat 1298 cal on DD's?
Soo confused!!! Can someone please clarify this for me. I am missing a piece of the puzzle???

Hi Cuttie - think something must have gone wrong with the calculations - that's more UD calories than I get and I am the same height and I weigh quite a bit more. Age can give you more cals if you are younger (I think!).

Check you change to lbs from kilos - and unless you are an athlete or training sooooooooo much - don't include exercise in your calcuations either - not in WLM.

I am an idiot!! I had changed it before and recall seeing a smaller number and thought something was wrong with the program this time. Nope just user error!!!

dd 297
up:1484

So do I recalculate if I lose 10 lbs down the road or just stick with my original dd/ud number provided?

Cuttie, stick with your numbers unless you see weight loss beginning to slow or stall. If your metabolism is burning hot enough to handle the food, why would you want to lower it?

If it ain't broke, don't worry about trying to fix anything.

500/1600 - I've unintentionally gone below 500 a few times, but didn't see that it helped so I just usually eat up to 500. Seems like the closer I stay to those numbers, the better my weight loss/maintenance is. Right now I'm just kind of hoping to go a little lower, but I don't need to.

According to the calculator my UDs are 1869, and DDs are 651. I tried that combo the first week with no losses. I lowered DDs to between 300 and 400 with no loss.

But, I'm maintaining, and happy to be able to eat. I don't have cravings and I'm not hungry on DDs. So, even though I'm not losing yet, I'm a really happy camper to simply maintain. I'm sure I'll figure out the right combo of DD and UDs.

380/1900, but some DD's are as high as 500. This works well for me!
