Atkins Flu??
Hey everyone. So I think I have the "Atkins flu". The first time I tried Atkins (Nov. 2010) I had the same symptoms, but I didn't know anything about there being an "Atkins flu" so I figured one of my kids had just gotten me sick. I kept a log then too and I remember being horrified that I had been popping Hall's lozenges all day and at the end of the day was like "wait, I wonder if these have any carbs in them" and behold, there was a whopping 4 carbs each
![]() Today I've got the same symptoms and yesterday when I was googling something else I just happened to scan by something that said "Atkins flu", though I didn't click it because I had no idea what it was. This morning though I remembered it so I googled Atkins flu. All this to ask, is there any easy way to get through this quick? I'm on my 12th day of Induction and it's been going so well. I hate being sick and feeling off balance. ![]() Last edited by Naeemah74; 04-14-2012 at 11:09 AM.. |

I'm always surprised when people report "flu" at extended periods.
With me, Day 1 I'm fine, Day 2 a bit crappy, Day 3 fine again. Usually it comes on past 24 hours and so I only have to put up with a few hours before going to bed early and feeling ok in the morning. I'm always very thirsty and so liquids do seem to help a bit, but they are not a cure. The closest I equate it to in terms of discomfort is caffeine withdrawal. Both are quite similar (for me). Definitely withdrawal. The stronger the addiction I've read, the worse the withdrawal.

I started a week ago today. And I have felt weak and tired pretty much since day 2. I am trying really hard to stick with it and make it past this "Atkins flu". I hope that I will start feeling better soon because my butt is dragging. Making this a VERY long week!

Make sure you're eating enough, and drinking enough. I take a b-complex vitamin in the morning, that helps. This time around wasn't that bad.
Hang in there, and have some bacon! |

I felt really crappy for about the first ten days. I was weak, tired, suffered with several headaches, loss of appetite, you name it I felt it. But, it eventually did subside and I felt more energy than I have in years. Hang in there, because it`s so worth it when you come out of the other side and start getting consistent losses. I stayed on an extended induction for over eight months and lost the bulk of my weight. Unfortunately for me I have to stay near an induction level carb count to just maintain my current weight.

I think I may be experiencing some induction flu, too - day 9 for me and drinking a ton of water this morning + eating bacon seems to have helped.
I am also considering cutting down (or out) the amount of stevia I consume (2 packets x 2 cups of coffee every morning). Yesterday I also drank a Zevia cola (sweetened with stevia) and I think it really upset my stomach - not sure if this has happened to anyone else before? |
