Newbies April post here

I really think the Newbies need their own thread so I am starting this.

If you have started within the last week or so then post here and get to know each other.

After a month we will start a new thread, Newbies May, and if you have been here through most of April it would be time for you to bow out of the Newbie thread except to offer your advice and support, and post any questions in your own new post.

Does that sound like a good plan?

So here it is, hope it helps.

Thanks Cindy!

I started at the end of March, so I guess I'm very much a Newbie!

Week one done, and I am very happy! Things are going smoothly and I am enjoying this WOE!

I have no big questions, but wanted to take part in all the Newbie fun here and say hi to everyone I hadn't said hi to before!

JUDDD kicking in...

Ohioguy - I am feeling the same way (today is one full week now). I had to go out for a exercise class on Tues. at 8pm so I did eat above my 500 (ate 800) as I felt like I might get woozie at class if I didn't. But I'm hoping not to do that very often. I definitely won't plan anything out of the house on DDs now until the JUDD "kicks in" as they say and I feel the energy boost.

Oropendola - thanks for sharing your stats and "JUDD kicking in" insights - very helpful. Thanks for the cheer on the loss too. I'm totally shocked by it after eating so well on UDs.

I am still qualified to be a newbie. Today is my 4th day on JUDDD and I breezed through my DD yesterday. I had a really hard time with that on Monday. I ate 490 calories yesterday so today is an UD.
What happens if your DD falls on Easter or any other important event where you are eating out, can you raise your DD just a little?

Oh yes Janice, you can, but do you really want to in your first 2 weeks?

I am my phone or would post more to help. You can put in a Medium Day to change your rotation. Try a search for MD.

Not back home til tonight. Hope others will be in to help before then.

I'm adding a Medium day... Going to be up to a max of 1200 cals for tomorrow, then an UD on Saturday, a DD on Sunday and another UD on Easter Monday, then back to the regular programming... This way it fits in with what I have planned for the weekend! I am not going to be doing this regularly, but with my losses this week (see stats), I feel I'm ok doing this as an exception for this weekend. We'll see how my losses turn out next week!

I'm not hungry at all today, so I only had Quark so far, for 178 cals total. I may have my planned lunch salad for dinner, so that will take me to about 387 cals total for today. Way under the 500 cals, but I'm not going to force myself to eat more when I'm just not hungry.

Jan, what I read uis you add your UD with your DD and divide by 2..That is your MD..count.. You have to figure it out in advance.. Have your DD Friday...Instead of UD Sat. have the MD.. and then have your UD for Easter.. Then Mon you start with DD again..

Good advice girls, thank you! I still don't know exactly what our plans are for Easter so if we stay home I will be able to keep my DD on that day.

I am doing a MD Saturday - I have a bday party to go to, but it is at 5 pm so I will try not to eat much all day then eat at the party, and not have any cake. Then enjoy my UD Sunday which is both Easter and my nephews 1st bday party!

I'm still new to JUDDD. I tried this as a kick in the rear to almost 12 years on low carb.

Thanks Cl I'm going to plan this way. Friday will be near fasting. I'm only planning a few eggs for the day. Sat will be a MD and I need to plan accordingly. I'm guessing around 1000 - 1100 cal? and my up day on Sunday at regular 1766.

I am doing the same - MD on Saturday then UD on Sunday. Yesterday was my second DD and it went well again. I even exercised for about 30 minutes on my bike. I know my weight will bounce around but it is already on a downward trend. I have lost 3.4 pounds since Monday AM. I have never lost this much in a week and was on Weight Watchers for a year and a half and only lost 15 pounds. I love JUDDD!

Oh hi Showcats! Where is Cicero IN? I live in Valparaiso. That's 25 miles due south of the tip of Lake Michigan.

Cicero is Northeast of Indianapolis - I think about 20 miles from Indy. We are close to Noblesville and Carmel.

I'm new! This is my 3rd DD. Great idea for a Newbie thread. I was wondering where to pop in a get acquainted.

So far, for me it's going pretty well I think. My down days have been on target, my first UD I'm not sure I ate enough, if that matters, I was about 600 below my UD. My second UD I worked at it a little more and got within 200 calories of my UD number. I just want to make sure that there's a significant difference in calories between UD and DD, right? Does it matter if I don't get very close to the UD?

NoWeigh, that is a great question. I am wondering the same thing. I am on my second UD today and am really not that hungry today. I can easily get 1200 calories but not so sure about 1800.

Great idea Cindy! Gives newbies a place to get acquainted (and us with them) with a plan for transitioning away from newbie status. Perfect!

As to eating UD calories, you DO want to get close to them. If you are only getting 1200, your body is not going to come out of the starvation stress response and you'll basically be doing just another calorie restriction plan, slowing your metabolism in the process. I totally get where you are coming from. I have more trouble with UD's than DD's.

Look for foods that are calorie dense, without being overly filling. Fats fill the bill nicely. Add more butter to your veggies. Toss back an handful of nuts, or add them to your salad. Avocado on a salad, sandwich or as guacamole gives a big calorie bang. Coconut oil crack is good too. Nut butter on a spoon.

Simply adding a hardboiled egg, cashews, avocado and an extra tbsp of dressing to a lunch salad will give you quite a few extra calories.

Choose beef or pork over fish and chicken for protein. Put some HWC in your coffee.

Lots of ways to bump calories without feeling stuffed. You just have to get a bit creative.

And I'll be doing a MD on Sat too so I can have Sun as an UD.

Hi all! I have to say I am LOVING this group!

I started on 3/26 and love this way of eating! After so many times bouncing back to low carb, I knew I simply couldn't eat that way any longer. The thought of eating low carb forever made me incredibly sad.

I'm down 7lbs and feel more in control than I have in a loooonnnggggg time!

I couldn't agree more! Really, it is. I keep thinking I'll make a key lime pie (one of my favorites) and just knowing I *can have it and not "blow my diet" is almost as satisfying as eating a slice. I said almost, because I probably will make one fairly soon, and I will enjoy it!

YAY for you on the loss!!

Glad to see you here! I hear you loud and clear about the thought of having to stay away from carbs forever making you sad... a superb piece of chocolate cream pie on a day when I'd been righteously low-carbing was my "sign". I'd been very good at avoiding it for a couple of days and I finally succumbed. It WAS as good as I'd imagined (better, actually), and it was at that very moment as I polished off the last crumb when I told myself I had to find a better way. I'd been lurking over at this forum off and on for a little while, read up on it, and more importantly, read post after post after post from people who were JUDDDing that it REALLY *DOES* WORK AS ADVERTISED - it IS a better way. No guilt on an UD, it is something that works around our lives instead of us trying to figure out how to work our way of eating around our life (and trying to pretend that we don't 'really' want to eat the crust on pizza, too, when that's one of our favorite parts). I started on 3/22 and could not be more pleased with how I feel (very energetic, GOOD MOOD, no hunger I can't satisfy, etc.) and I'm positively bowled over at the number of pounds that are gone. Yep, this is the life for me, baby!!

The folks here on this forum are very welcoming and supportive - no drama ever. LOVE it here and glad you're here, too.

ChefDeb - 7 lbs wow! that is wonderful

Sheridan - love love Key Lime pie, made it a few times but it never comes out like it tastes when we go to FL - it is one of the things I really look forward to when we go!

Had a big UD yesterday so up to 118.8 - not fretting DD today, and TOM is about a week away so I will just let the scale bounce
