Misto Sprayers Instead Of Cooking Spray!

My daughter bought me 2 of these for Christmas because she wanted me to use "healthier" products and cooking spray, to her, has too many chemicals.

I put Olive Oil in one and Peanut Oil in the other. Pump the top about 10 times and I have "cooking spray". Still no cal/low cal and much better for me!

GREAT idea! I was thinking I could put coconut oil in it, but I guess I can't because it is solid except in the summer.

lol I have 3: evoo, lemon infused macadamia oil and avocado oil. I figure less than 1/2tsp per application so I count 10cals but still a lot of flavor for only a few calories

My brother gave me one a long time ago and it clogged up on me in under a year and no attempts to unclog it succeeded. Don't know if it was defective or the oils themselves tend to get gummy as the sprayer ages and clogs them up.

Don't try this with coconut oil. It is solid at room temp! Won't work

Wow, that's a shame! So far so good with mine, though.

My oldest one is about 5 or 6 years old and has no problems. I think maybe you got a dud.

I agree about problems with these things. impossible to totally clean them, and after awhile, even if they don't clog up, they smell rancid. you know how quickly rancidity spreads to oil once it's exposed, and how unhealthy it is... I threw my misto out. I didn't want someone else to buy it at salvation army and try to use it.

seems like a good idea, but not a good execution.

I have never had a problem. I fill about 1/4 of the way. Once it's empty I fill it with hot soapy water and shake well, spray it repeatedly, then clean the inside with a bottle brush. Rinse, fill with hot water and spray until no more soap, then spray "air" until all the water is out of the nozzle.

I can understand what you are saying here, but these things have actually be around for years and from all the reviews that I have read they are, for the most part, they work well even after years of use. I do like Dottie does and so does my DD and she has had hers for years now.

mine always gunked up and smelled rancid too, and I cleaned those suckers like no other. I have issues, okay?
my pampered chef one was the worst.
There is a just olive oil spray without the soy and chemicals that I got at walmart once. Mostly I just measure a little coconut oil/olive/etc in a teaspoon if I need it.

If it smells rancid, try adding some baking soda to the hot water wash and letting it sit overnight, then do the soapy water bit
