calories in movie theater popcorn?

Anyone know how many cal. in a small bag of popcorn with "butter" from a movie theater? I'm getting widely different #'s when I search.

To be safe and without the butter topping a small movie popcorn has an average of 400 calories.

I use to get the child sized one. It's smaller and has 300 calories, average.

Lately I have been popping my own 100 calorie bag and "sneaking" it into the movies! At least this way I KNOW the calories I'm eating.

Haven't gotten caught yet!

I might do that, Beeb. Or I might take some other kind of snack. Its more of a habit than really dying for popcorn.

I always sneak in a bag of snap peas or snow peas. I get the fresh ones from walmart and put them in a baggie and I am good to go!

Our movie theater lists the calories next to all the refreshments they serve. The guy at the counter said to my friend, hey you can supersize that medium sized popcorn for 50 cents more. When she looked at the calorie difference, she almost flipped out. She got a "small" popcorn with "butter" and it was 480 calories.

Like some of the others, I sneak in my 100 calorie pack of popcorn in a baggie. Cheaper too! The small popcorn cost more than the cost of a matinee movie!

with any item that can be made various ways by different vendors, the calories are just a guess because who knows what's in the one you bought? we all know how much ingredients in a certain type of soup may vary, for example. most of the calories in buttered popcorn are in the (fake?) butter, and I suppose different theatres put way different amounts on, don't you think? it's always very hard to accurately count anything other people make that you can't even weigh. you need to figure that most servings in real life are bigger than the ones in the calorie counters, it's just human nature to keep piling the stuff on to please the customer. *sigh*

good luck!

I am loving the 100 calorie bags of kettlecorn popcorn. Heading off to the movies tonight with my bag in my purse

One of the things I love about JUDDD is that I can have popcorn at the movies bc I am a popcorn junkie....even when I was low carbing, I just took the night off for movie nights. This has to work for a lifetime and no movie popcorn would NOT work for me! Luckily, I don't get out for many movies

That is what really bites about DD! I took my daughter to the midnight showing of "Hunger Games" which of course, was the beginning of my Friday DD. No popcorn for mama! LOL
