Hunger is the best sauce

I was thinking about the idea that if you're trying to determine whether you're really hungry, or just mouth-hungry (what we call "nibbly" in my family), consider eating a hard-cooked egg. If it sounds good, you're really hungry. If it doesn't, and you think instead of cheese or chocolate or bread, it is probably not true hunger, but the nibblies.

On DDs when I go into town for work, I take as my lunch a salad and bone broth soup. The first thing I eat all day, except for coffee in the morning, is that hard cooked egg on my salad. And it tastes SOOOOOO GOOD!!!

Indeed, hunger is the best sauce!

OH I also wanted to add that drinking diet soda makes me "mouth hungry" so no soda on DD's.

Great post! I read the "egg test" on the ML before, and it's a good yardstick for hunger.

Hunger is indeed the best seasoning!!!!

Started JUDDD 10/12/11 after LC.
MAINTENANCE since 11/12/11, & have lost more weight. I shake things up all the time with my version of Pirate Jenny's MUDDD, my "Fast 5" & other IF. ...low-moderate fat....and eating "healthy" foods 75+% of the time which lets me have real life and indulgences too I've reached my goals, improved my health & appearance, and enjoy my lifetime woe!

I've always called it "noshy." I never want a hard boiled egg though...I mean, I like them in salads and stuff, but I never just think "oh, you know what sounds good right now? A hard boilded egg.". So what should I think of? Even chicken breast is a 50/50 shot...sometimes just sounds gross. Give me ideas!!!!

So very true! When I'm hungry, a plain soft-boiled egg with a bit of sea salt sprinkled on it tastes amazingly good every single time. The boiled-egg test really does work well for me to distinguish between true hunger and cravings for me.
(not a boiled-egg smiley but close enough)

In my case I could think of that egg and eat it even if I wasn't hungry! I eggs, but they don't me!

If I ate that egg when I was truly hungry I would remain hungry for the rest of the day. Protein/fat just triggers something in me that just doesn't give me that "full" feeling at all and the reason LC didn't keep me full.

Now, oatmeal is a totally different thing! Eat a little and I'm good all day so my food to see if I'm really hungry is oatmeal. If I don't want oatmeal I know I'm not really hungry, and just as you say, head hungry!

OMGosh, Beeb! You are brilliant! This is going to sound silly. But it was when you mentioned oatmeal.

I totally believe in the boiled egg test and it works for me. However, I consider oatmeal a guilty pleasure. This is an UD for me and it has been so lovely.

I still have 110 calories left and I kind of wanted something but not just anything. I'd rather forget it than waste my 110 calories.

Last night I made crock pot oatmeal. I had posted here asking about it because I never did it before. Someone gave me a link to a great recipe and I tweaked it. And, I doubled it so I have a bunch in the refrigerator.

That's what I wanted! top off my lovely day with oatmeal! So when you said that I went right to the fridge and got one of my portioned out servings and ate it cold, right out of the Rubbermade bowl it was stored in. It's steel cut oats, so very healthy I'm told. And I chopped apples into it and cinnamon and spices and several tablespoons of the Skinny B cereal. that was all before turning on the crockpot last night.

It's great hot OR cold I have found out. It was like a yummy dessert. Thank you!
