Making the switch, too! Question - please help

Hi all,

Making the switch as well and excited about the plan! How do I know how to calculate my UD and DD calories?

Look forward to getting to know everyone, learning more and all the healthy success stories!

Go to the JUDDD site, put in your actual weight, height, age- and then NO EXERCISE- whether that is accurate or not. Click on "calculate" and it will give you UD and DD levels. The calories seem to come out quite high when you add exercise, so most of us just claim we don't do any (on that calculator).

What Pami said Plus, use the pull down menus on the calculator (you have to toggle down on that first page to see it). You can choose 20% all the way up to 45% for DD calories depending on where you want to start. Many start at 500 calories and see how that goes.

I even think it says on that page to make the first 2 weeks be 500 calorie down days.

Go to UpDayDownDay Diet™ Plan ? How to Succeed
  • Go to the bottom of the page.
  • Put in your height (make sure to switch it to inches... the default seems to be cm),
  • your weight (again, make sure it is set to lbs),
  • and your age.
  • Choose "little or no exercise" (because that gives you the lowest numbers... you can adjust later if you find you need to)
  • choose "20%" (because this gives you the lowest numbers... again, you can adjust up later if you find you need to)
  • click "calculate"


While you can choose more than "no exercise" or higher than "20%" of your total calories, these settings give you the absolute rock-bottom numbers for weight loss for your frame.

I've adjusted my DD numbers up a bit, because I find it more successful to do DDs at 500-600 calories. But for UD numbers I aim for what the calculator tells me.

Started JUDDD 10/12/11 after LC.
MAINTENANCE since 11/12/11, & have lost more weight. I shake things up all the time with my version of Pirate Jenny's MUDDD, my "Fast 5" & other IF. ...low-moderate fat....and eating "healthy" foods 75+% of the time which lets me have real life and indulgences too I've reached my goals, improved my health & appearance, and enjoy my lifetime woe!
