okay....so...wait..is this right?
hello my expert Juddders. Plugging along since the beginning of January and relaly enjoying this woe! But, I do have a question for anyone out there. It seems that a lot of people eat similarly to each other but very differnt from me on their down days. On my down days I eat my 500 cals (or less) in rice and beans- it fills me up so well. But, when I see other dd menus (even the ones from those who do not incorporate lc) i see what seems to be stricter food choices. I'm losing at a snails pace but that seems to be my cross to bear on any woe. any thoughts or input- does anyone out there eat like i do? (to be honest off low carb, i eat a lot of rice and beans and bread on my up days as well

Whatever works for you is "right"
For me, I like high protein and spicy foods on DD's. That keeps me satisfied longer.

Hmmm, I may be eating rice and beans next DD. Family recipe to give an inexperienced English woman?

Yes, it's whatever you want to eat to use those calories, Jenn.
It can be low carb foods like meat & veggies, or it could be beans & rice, or even a Big Mac (540 calories, hehe).

Just looked up rice and beans, seems there is Louisiana style and Brazilian style. Sounds good though.

Hey Jenn! Welcome back.
Theory says it is the calories and not the content that makes it work on DD. I guess my first question is: what does a snail's pace mean? Second question is: How are UDs going? Are you sticking pretty close to calculated UD calories? Going over or under can effect weight loss. Coming from Louisiana, I consider rice and beans a gourmet staple. Interesting, I guess over the decades I have gotten out of the habit. I shall have to revisit that combo! Cindy, as a long-time bayou dweller, I can say with assure Brasilia or Louisiana, that is going to be a tasty meal!

It is gone and it ain't coming back! JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does. Last edited by gotsomeold; 03-08-2012 at 12:03 PM.. |

I eat chili with beans almost every single down day. The combination of the protein and carbs really feels indulgent and keeps me satisfied for hours!

Don't worry about what you eat on DD Jenn ! as long as you stick to the calories limit you'll be fine !
I don't do LC either, plus I'm a vegetarian so my DD are usually made of soup, veggies and many (maaaany) rice cakes ![]() I'm sure you're doing perfect ![]()

I drink at least one protein shake every DD (except yesterday...whoops
![]() I'm also curious as to what a "snail's pace" means? How much do you typically lose/week? It also might not be what you eat on your DDs, but how much you eat on your UDs that is slowing you. |

see...you guys are awesome, I knew i'd get a variety of responses!
By snails pace, i mean- was on low carb (like- ketosis, 15 carbs or under) from November 1,2010 to January 1, 2012- (no cheats!) and lost a whole 40 lbs. After much consideration i moved on to JUDDD and lost my brain for about the first 3 weeks and ate in excess on each up day even though i kept my dd cals to 500 or below- i was eating too much on my up days. I trusted what the experienced posters said, "stick with it, it will pass" and it did- i have a better grip on it now and feel more in control. But, i'm holding steady at the same weight for abuot 3 weeks now of controlled up/dd rotation. I feel like at my weight it should be easier to see some losses- but staying the same is better then a gain i suppose. The rice and beans i am eating are just from good ol' chipotle- but i would love an authentic rice and beans dish to prep at home if anyone has one |

Did you gain weight when you first started and were eating in excess of your numbers? Or did you maintain?
If you are at the same weight as you were when you started and you went from eating VLC to eating pretty high carb, that's probably a success in itself. Most people gain when they switch back to eating carbs. Also, if you think you lose better on LC, switch back to that. And WTG on 40 pounds on Atkins! ![]()

Oh, and sorry, a few more questions. Have you lost weight? You say snails pace but then said you are at the same weight. How much have you lost since starting JUDDD? How many calories are you eating? Have you tried lowering your UD numbers?

just seems like slow going cause i didnt lose much (compared to my weight) on lc and i gained (completely due to my over indulgence) at the start of JUDDD- i shed most of what i gained- but as per usual- my body doesnt seem to like to let go of weight very easily and i just hover within 2-4 lbs.
Ive incorporated more excersice and water consumption so im hoping that will help. Appreciate all the responses, advice and opinions! You guys are great |

Can we ask for your numbers? Height, age etc - so we can perhaps give more advice??
I started 8lbs lighter than your siggy - and have lost on average 8-9lbs a month in last 4 months - for a total so far of 34lbs. I often ![]() Have you included exercise in the calculator - many of us don't. It could quite literally be that you are rebalancing your body after 2 years of Low carb and that the weight will start to drop soon.

sure- my current states are :
5'2'' 183 lbs (fluctuated since my siggy) i exercise a couple times a week, but did not include exercise in the chart i try to stick to 500 or lower on dd and 2500 for up days- i didnt want to start off with them too low. I am making a concentrated effort to drink more water as that seems to help. thats about it i think. |

I think maybe your UD cals might be too high. I'm only an inch shorter than you, weigh more, and my UD cals are quite a bit lower than yours.
Just a guess though!

I, too think your UD calories are a bit high. Without knowing your age I can't help, though and try to figure out if my thoughts are right or not.
