Doing JUDDD while pregnant?

Anyone have any opinions/ info on this? I'm not pregnant, but plan to start trying this summer. Dh and I are going to Jamaica for our 10 year wedding anniversary (which is what got us inspired to do JUDDD in the first place), and have decided to go for #3 while we're away. I gained 50 lbs with my son, and 63lbs with my daughter 2 years later. I'm 1 lb away from getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight with her (she's 18 mos). I do not want to gain so much weight this next time!!! Now that I'm getting soildly into my thirties, losing weight is getting harder and harder, so I really don't want a 50, 60 or 70lb gain with this next pregnancy. I'm wondering if I could do some sort of JUDDD maintenence while pregnant? Like 1000 DDs and 2000 UDs, or something like that? With my last 2 kids, I spent the first few months throwing up, and then last 7 STARVING. My appetite was amazing.

If I did JUDDD while pregnant, I would stick to maintenance calories. You don't want to LOSE, you just dont' want to over-gain. ANd some weight gain is important for the baby, too.

I'd also be very, very careful about nutrition. When I was pregnant, I tried to eat some citrus, some leafy green, and some orange veg every day.

Women have been having babies for centuries on whatever food they had available. But you want a healthy baby... so you will probably want to make sure every bite has good fat and vitamins.

I would think using the 60% calculation for JUDDD would give you the best option, calorie-wise. Using my height (5'3") and age (47) and your weight (160), it gave me 1000 DD and 1700 UD. I would think that's a fairly normal range.
What shall we do for this meal, Mr. Banting?

If I did it, I def wouldn't go below 1000 cals on DD, and I'd be super careful about my food choices, REALLY limiting sugars, and likely starches as well. Focusing on lean protein and lots and lots of veggies, with some fruits. Maybe a serving or 2 of whole grain a day.

I gained 40 with each of my first 3, but only 27 with my last. The only difference was, I was 41 and diagnosed with gest. diabetes so was following a diet like I outlined above.

I think we get into trouble (at least I know I did) when we have morning sickness and eat whatever happens to stay down (for me that's carbs), and then continue to eat that way when the sickness passes. Baby needs about 500 extra calories a day. And as we know from calorie counting, it doesn't take much to make that add up if you aren't careful.

I agree with not going lower than 1000 calories on your DDs, but I also probably wouldn't do JUDDD at all.

What I would do, though is a steady, everyday, same calorie number that would keep me from gaining any other weight than baby and normal baby water weight. I just am of the mind that baby needs more than a DD would give him/her.

When the baby is born I would jump right back to our regular JUDDD to lose whatever I did gain, if any.

Well, I have a few months to worry about it, I was just curious what people thought. Frankly, I think I could eat 2000 cals a day everyday while pg, and still not gain anywhere close to the 63 lbs I gained the last time around. With my daughter, it was an out and out food bonanza every day. I'll bet I ate 4000 cals a day with her, probably more.

I have thought about this even though I'm not considering having a child at the moment. I think it would be fine to do, of course with increased calorie numbers. They say that you only need an extra 500 cals per day (right?) for the baby, so I would think that you'd need to add that much to your JUDDD maintenance numbers (since you aren't trying to lose...just maintain).

For example, for me, at 5'10" approx 170 lbs, 31 yrs young, at 50% maintenance mode, (little ot no exercise), the JUDDD calculator gives me 1894 UDs and 947 DDs. I think it would be acceptable to do 1500 DDs and 2400 UDs with baby. That is approx. 1950 cals/day average. That's not bad.

I'm not a DR though, and this isn't medical advice. But FOR ME, I wouldn't hesitate to play around with the numbers to see what works.

The HCG diet is based on a study of malnourished women having "healthy" weight babies. This wouldn't be "malnourished" to me since I'd be getting plenty of calories and I would be trying my best to stick to more whole foods, which I do anyway (minus the cadbury eggs ).

My doctor told me that for the first several months of pregnancy, you really only need 100-200 per day more. That usually is about 1/2 of a sandwich or fruit or two.

The last few months go up a bit in calories but most likely not over 500 cals extra, but for me she recommended no more than about 300 calories. I'm short.

First pregnancy I gained 28-30 lbs and had 8.2lb baby.
Second pregnancy, I gained ONLY 13lbs. And had a 8.6 lb baby. I had no appetite on the second preg., but since the baby was going healthy the doc said no worries. All my food was going to the baby.
