WOE: Low Carb-IF/cngd d to JUDDD/lc on 2/9/12 (230)
Start Date: Feb 8, 2010 IF ON 8-14-11
May I join in?

My story: (and I tend to ramble!)

I've been LC for a couple of years, and did lose some weight, (over a period of time, about 80#'s), but last June 19th, I decided it was time to quit smoking, and since then, I have put on 20#"s of what I had lost. I tried tweaking my LC plan, but nothing seemed to help. I was getting very frustrated, and then started reading Beeb's upbeat posts about JUDDD. I've been reading up on it, and "accidently" started it on Thursday of this week, simply because I ate whatever I wanted that day (just because?), so thought what a great time to make that an UD, and jump in. I had weighed that morning and it was 230.2#'s. I bought the book, and read all I could on here. Yesterday was my first DD, and I did it as Dr. J suggested, by using the Atkins shakes. I had three of them throughout the day, along with coffee, (sure missed my butter/cream in coffee!), and 1 35 cal lite laughing cow cheese wedge. Went to bed STARVING! I think it was from all the carbs I had on the UD. I was rewarded this morning when I got on the scales and weighed 226.8 (3.4"s lost)! I know that won't stay there after my UD today, so I'm not weighing again till my 3rd DD comes around.

I am T2 diabetic, and have had some high readings (some as high as 199), so I'm going to stay LC as much as possible. According to the calorie calculator, I'm supposed to have 1954UD cals, and at 30% on DD, 586. I am going to try to do the 2 week induction as Dr.J suggested, and do the shakes.

Thank you for this forum, and wish me luck!

Arkie, ramble away, we like that here.

I hope that the JUDDD magic continues to work for you. I respect Atkins and his principles but I was stuck at just a few lbs above where I needed to be for soooo long.

Now I love the freedom to eat whatever I like. But LC is a great way to eat if you are Type 2.

Embrace a little hunger. It is the sign of healing.

Hunger is not an emergency.

It's not what you eat between Christmas and New Year that makes you fat, it's what you eat between New Year and Christmas.

. You are off to a terrific start! Don't feel pressure to do the 2 weeks of shakes, especially if you are having problems with your sugar readings. The majority of us have not done that particular induction. I am not trying to discourage you. It is more of an encouragement especially if it is too difficult and your blood sugar numbers do not cooperate.

Glad to have you with us. Have a read of the DD recipes, and on your next UD, plan your DD to get the most out of your calories...there are a lot more filling options than shakes.
Have a wander round the supermarket, and see what low cal options there are....when I started I rather enjoyed seeing just how much I could eat for 500 cals!
After a week or two you will find just what fills YOU up best...some of us like protein/fat, others like me...like lots of bulky veggies.
Keep us posted on your progress!

I started induction, then got the book, the started over using the shakes. I did well by having coffee with some FF milk for breakfast and then sipping on a shake throughout the morning and then sipping another one for the afternoon. I rarely had the 3 shakes in an entire day but it was there if I needed it.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy this diet as much as I am.

WOE: Low Carb-IF/cngd d to JUDDD/lc on 2/9/12 (230)
Start Date: Feb 8, 2010 IF ON 8-14-11
Thanks to all for the welcome! I already feel like I'm "home". I had my doubts about this WOE at first, but the more I read, the more I was encouraged to atleast give it a try!

Right now, (at least until Wednesday, which is payday), I will stick with the shakes for my dd. I already have them, so I need to use them. They do not run my BS up. It did go up on my first UD though, because I went overboard with the carbs...turkey & dressing, sweet potato cassarole, and cornbread muffins (Cracker Barrel). It was so good, but I know I can't do that again for a while!

Today is UD, and I had two eggs, 1 pork sausage patty, and a piece of 100 cal bread, 3 coffees with no cal sweetner/10 cal creamer in each. I think I'm going to have the Chicken, Cabbage cassarole that I found on here later today. Don't know what else yet, but I'll find something good and within range.

You all are all great, and are such inspiritions!

WOE: Restart JUDD 2/10/15
Start Date: Aug 2011/I was maintaining since April 2012
Welcome Carole!

I have blood sugar issues with too many carbs too, so I avoid them. I typically run around 30-40 gms on DD's and 60-70 gms on UD's. That's mostly from veggies and incidental carbs with my protein. This gives me good blood sugar control.

Look forward to seeing JUDDD work it's magic with you.

Just wanted to mention that I am 69 years old, and see if there are any special rules for some one of my "young" age? TIA

Welcome Carole! Beeb's enthusiasm is contagious, isn't it?

I don't remember any special rules for those of us who remember the '60s & '70s as formative times. Just common sense: watch blood sugar, watch how we are feeling and adjust food intake to make sure that feeling is always good....stuff that applies to every age.

GOAL 10/3/12
Still at goal 2/6/13
Changed to LCHF after becoming diabetic in 9/13 (Lost 15 more pounds).
STILL below goal 11/21/15

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.
