I forgot to mention..

I forgot to tell you about a short conversation I had with an acquaintance when we were talking about diets and New Year's resolutions and how every year it's always one of the biggest resolutions folks make.

I was telling her about this one diet where you do the diet part for two days, all wrapped up in a single day, and then the next day you don't have to diet at all.... you do a *double strength* diet on one day and then just eat normally the day after. She thought it sounded wonderful.

If I put it to her that you had to fast at 500 calories or fewer every other day, even with the following normal days, she'd have thrown a fit about how unhealthy that is!

I guess it's all in the presentation.

Isn't it funny how "diet psychology" works, Pat? You are absolutely right. Folks will generally gasp at the number 500 (arbitrary as it is), and in the same breath say, "I wish I could lose weight like you".

I was just saying to hubs the other day, "This is the first time in my adult life that I started the New Year without saying my resolution is to lose weight."

As simple as the statement is, it was truly amazing for me to step back and realize that never more will I worry about my weight.

Ha ha, Pat! Good way to put it! That "500 calorie" part kinda puts up immediate blinders on people and they don't want to hear the rest.

Yes! I have told my more judgemental friends I am simply "calorie cycling," but I didnt tell them the "500" for the same reason!

I refer to my DD as my "lower calorie" day for the same reason. Sorry I can have that tomorrow but not today since today is my lower calorie day. When I have lost my 20 or 30 pounds, then they will all be asking how I did it.

When friends hear about the 500 cal day. They all gasp! LOL But then I tell how healthy I eat on those days and that shuts them up! I really do eat healthy eating only 500 cal. Sometimes I can't believe it myself.

I don't discuss my diet with anyone (except my dh, of course) so I don't have problems with people telling me how unhealthy they think Atkins or calorie cycling is.

This is the thing that always happened with low carb. If I told people I want eating bread, sugar, rice, pasta, potatoes, basically most cabs they would tell me how unhealthy it was and that there is no way they could do that and on and on but if I just did I had cut down on sugar and carbs they thought it sounded great. Our of I even mentioned the word Atkins! People automatically think you are living on bacon! Everyone changed their tune though when I lost over 100 hundred pounds!

Yes, I know exactly what you guys mean - there is a psychological aspect to what people hear and then process and it's all in the wording.

My diet/WL rarely comes up, but on the times it has, I have said, "I do calorie cycling where one day you eat low calories, and the next day you eat normally." Something to that effect. Nobody bats an eye or says anything else, it seems to roll over them.

Started JUDDD 10/12/11 after LC.
MAINTENANCE since 11/12/11, & have lost more weight. I shake things up all the time with my version of Pirate Jenny's MUDDD, my "Fast 5" & other IF. ...low-moderate fat....and eating "healthy" foods 75+% of the time which lets me have real life and indulgences too I've reached my goals, improved my health & appearance, and enjoy my lifetime woe!

I had a co worker tell me the other day how unhealthy

it is to eat under 500 calories a day. She had see it on tv

I told her I do it every other day. She said why you don't

need to lose weight. I told her I did when i started eating this way.

So now she says every day are you eating lunch today.and on and on and on

you get the picture.

Yes, I told ONE person about how JUDDD works before starting and the look of horror on her face was enough to let me know to keep it under wraps from now on. With the exception of one friend who really wants to drop a few pounds, and was open to it. She hasn't got the large amount to lose that I do, so will be at goal in a flash.

I've been really lucky. I'm very open with friends, family, coworkers, etc. and have never had a negative comment directed at my WOE. We have a lot of events at work and now my bosses and coworkers are actually willing to plan around my UDs if at all possible. And when they can't, I cook something for myself or make my salad right before the event and it's fine.

I don't sugar-coat it. I explain exactly what's involved. People are seeing how much weight I'm losing and now come to me for advice. I have 2 friends looking into JUDDD now and trying to see if it's going to be a good fit for them. I have directed them here and to ************ so they can see exactly what and how I eat. I'm like a drug pusher too because I'll give people a "small taste" of what I'm eating on my DDs to entice them.

Good or you Dawn, I am so glad they are helpful. I am pretty open with it too.

Again, people are often commenting on my size now that I am at or below goal all the time. It is hard for them to 'dis' something that is clearly a success. I want the whole world to know about the magic of JUDDD.

I get this all the time when I try to explain my current way of dieting. I am on hcg, where every day you take the hcg is a DD!! I am on 500 calories for the whole time, generally 21 days or longer. So when I explained the JUDDD to my DH his first reaction was "That is exactly what I do!!!!" And it is true. If he goes out with his co-workers for lunch one day, he will restrict his calories at the very next meal and definitely for the next day. He automatically follows these rules, maybe that is why he has maintained his weight for the entire 20 years I have known him. What a WOL!!! But boy, try to explain to anyone.....
