What's an FD?
Hi all just wondering what FD means, I've seen it mentioned here but not in the book.

Start Date: JUDDD 1/1/12 + LCHF 12/1/13 (controlling diabetes)
Free Day or Full Day, basically a day where you ignore calories (unless you like counting them) and eat whatever appeals. FDs are one of the several inventions people have added to Dr J's basic JUDDD woe. They are reserved for those happy souls in established maintenance (and occasionally for people on exotic vacations). And, yes, too many free days can be followed by an abrupt return JUDDD as designed. (JUDDD is our friend, it catches us if we fall.)
Still at goal 2/6/13
Changed to LCHF after becoming diabetic in 9/13 (Lost 15 more pounds).
STILL below goal 11/21/15
I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!
JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

I use a FD, or a modified UD, on Fridays. I want more than my normal UD 1800 calories (so I can have a couple drinks), but don't want to go hog-wild. So I allow myself a higher limit on Friday. I still count calories, but have more to work with.
This also allows me to keep the same days each week. UD, dd, UD, dd, FD, UD, dd and then start over. Makes my family very happy, and it's easier for me to do DDs at work and on Sundays.
What shall we do for this meal, Mr. Banting?
The same thing we do every meal... Try to take over the world!

Synger - For the first 2 weeks I should follow UD/DD, correct? Then I could add in an FD on Friday like you have done. I like the pattern you have going. So how do I figure how many calories to have on the FD?
Lost on Juddd: 12
UD 1900/DD 400

Oh, LOL.. I sort of invented that term when one of our earlier JUDDDers was hoping not to be so constricted on UDs, since she was in maintenance. She thought it would be nice to not have to count the calories so carefully on her UDs now, but some worry about going overboard, so how to ease back without getting into dangerous waters.
The thought was to relax some of the UDs and allow them to be Free Days instead.
Thus the Free Day. FD The day that is more than just an Up Day. It is a day that is free of having to weigh or measure foods or count calories. It is FREE. Just do whatever... eat however... be FREE of any diet constraints at all.
Best wishes, Pat

I just wrote this as a reply to a PM to Natasha.
"Sorry, we forget that not everyone has been doing this as long as we have.
MD stands for a Medium Day. You add your calories for your DD and UD together, divide by two and use that figure as your maximum calories for your MD. It is used to change your rotation to allow for a special occasion that needs to be an UD. This is very useful but not really recommended for the first few weeks. The best order to do a MD would be DD, MD, UD, DD. If you do UD, MD, DD most people find that they are really starving on their DD.
FDs are Free Days or as some of us like to say Feast Days, lol. These are for we lucky maintainers really. It means that we quite simply eat whatever we wish without even considering counting the calories. If we are still maintaining within our chosen numbers we can use them as our UDs as often as we wish."
Embrace a little hunger. It is the sign of healing.
