Being Sick and Gaining Weight

Yes, it happens and I'm proof of it this week. I have the flu. I feel really and for the last couple of days before my little "flu friend" decided to really kick in I've been eating like a Sumo wrestler!

I eat to hunger now, and have been eating this way since starting our wonderful JUDDD. I'm never very hungry on my DDs AND UDs but the last couple have been and I have over eaten, especially yesterday's UD . I've eaten so much more that I've gained quite a bit more weight then I usually do after an UD, (138.4, a number I haven't seen since late Sept), BUT I had the feeling the scale would not be my friend today, and was prepared for this.

Today I have no appetite at all and the flu is at it's full peak. This is proving to me that I needed to eat like I did because my body was preparing to fight the flu and it needed the fuel to do so. Now that I am in full blow "flu mode" I don't need to "fuel up" and my body is using what I ate the last couple of UDs and not really good DDs and I'm just not hungry today at all. It's a DD, too and I just KNOW this is going to be a good one, no over eating or maybe eating at all. I do have a big pot of turkey soup planned but we will see what happens later, if I'm really hungry enough to want to make and eat this.

I'm taking meds, which has always made me retain water, plus with all the drinking I'm doing I'm sure I'm going to keep some water weight on, also. I just read that when we are sick and we drink a lot it doesn't push the water weight out because we are usually dehydrated from all the stuffiness and runny nose business, and we hold onto those liquids to help heal.

SO, to make a long story short and to give some inspiration and encouragement to those of us that are not feeling well and gaining weight, please take heart and be patient! I am the experiment and if you are feeling like I am and gaining weight, don't stress. That unusual hunger will go away, and the weight will go with it! I really think it's just our bodies way of "fighting" to get well and I'm really glad I listened and ate what I feel I needed to help with the fight!

Thank you everyone, and Mayleesa I still have you on the healing list, right on top!

OK, here is an update: I am not one to take medicine but I have taken one dose of cough medicine, Tylenol, and a zillion cups of cold season tea. Anyone or all of these made me retain water and I am really much better today so will only take the Tylenol, if needed. After yesterday's DD calories of 484 I got on the scale this morning to the weight of 145!! That is a 3.4 pound loss since yesterday's weigh-in of 138.4 and I'm back to my goal weight!!

Like Mayleesa just pointed out, and as you can see with me, we may gain some weight when we are not feeling well from a cold or flu and the medicines we may take, but it will come off as soon as we start to get on the other side of the illness. Sometimes it takes weeks (poor Mayleesa ) and sometimes just days, but it does happen so keep the faith, keep on plan and just be a bit patient (or as in Mayleesa's case, a LOT patient )!!

aw..poor Linda! Hope you are feeling better very soon...flu bugs are nasty!
I had a mild cold last week, and put on a couple of lbs...despite drinking tons...but, like you said, it comes back off again!

I think juddd...more than most woe's..really makes us look at HOW and WHY our bodies respond to certain things...rather than just the results of the reactions...ie, scale weight!

sending you healing hugs
Jo

I get to spend a bit more time online today, so wanted to bump this post and see if you're feeling well by now, Linda.

I know you were putting in a ton of extra hours and work getting the other house ready to put on market, so that's a lot of days of being over-tired. Take good care of yourself.

Thanks for all the well wishes and concern from all you wonderful JUDDD BUDDDs!

I was starting to feel better yesterday but today was not so well so I actually spent most of the day in bed. DF is still feeling under the weather, also so no work getting done on house this weekend!

I will say my weight was at 133.8 this morning, back to normal for me after a good DD. I'm not taking any meds now but Tylenol and I do believe that the cough medicine and cold medicine was helping me to retain water and when I stopped taking these the water weight went away. I sure went to the bathroom A LOT the day after I stopped taking these so that is what I'm forming my theory from.

SO...if you are sick, take your meds, eat what you feel you need to eat and don't stress about weight gain, if any! JUDDD will come through after you feel better to take that water weight right off!!!
