Carbs in Ham??

I have seen Ham contain as much as 7 carbs per ounce and as little as 0 carbs per 3 oz. Because of what Ham is and how it is Cured. Is it possible to have ZERO carbs for 3oz??

Also- what kind of Ham do you buy??

Oh my...I know! Honey ham, brown sugar cured ham...delicious but CARB-o-riffic.

I buy spiral hams, soon they will be Cheap! If you don't apply the glaze that comes in a separate packet No carbs.

I look for smoked hams rather than sugar-cured or honey-cured, and skip the glaze.

Best ham I've ever had was from Harrington's of Vermont. Not cheap. But worth it for the holidays!

As far as every-day grocery store hams, my go-to ham is Hormel Cure 81. No carbs and tastes good.

Me too but I can't find it anywhere around here anymore. Irritating.

Thanks for all the tips!! I have seen the cure 81 and i'll have to try it! I have always just wondered if there are "hidden carbs" in ham that says 0

Carbs in Ham?

I know this is an old thread, but hopefully someone will see it.

Hormel Cure 81 is our favorite ham also, and I just go happily along counting it as ZERO carbs (we never use the glaze).

I just noticed that the Nutrition Facts lists 3 carbs for a 3 oz. serving (this includes 1g of sugar). It looks like this is JUST for the HAM.

The glaze packet lists its own Nutrition Facts as 5 carbs per 1 tsp. (this includes 5g of sugar).

So, if I am reading this correctly, 1oz = 1 carb.

Does anyone have a different take on this?

the only zero carb hams I know

are all in the entertainment business!!! I read labels,. and keep my portion size small. Love & Profits: FLAT-oh, that this too too solid flesh would melt, thaw, and resolve into a dew-FERENGHI

I used to buy Hormel Cure81 all the time, but have a really hard time finding it now. I checked the website and the different Hormel Cure81 hams - some say Classic - some don't seem to have varying amounts of carbs which I think is very strange. There didn't seem to be anything consistent - some of the Classics had more than others, some of the presliced had more some had less - very very confusing

Here is the nutrition label for the Cure81 quarter size ham. 1g of carbs for 3oz serving:

Dextrose would be the sugar in the cure. That and the potato starch aren't ideal, but the quantities are likely quite low if the carb count is accurate.

I throw out the packet of glaze and use a sugar free jelly like Polamer Apricot and the pineapple flavor from Jok n Al's sold here on netritions site....they are delicious and nobody know the difference....sometime I throw some cloves on it too.

When I posted the nutrition label for Cure 81 Hams I should have been more explicit. The label I posted was the lowest carb count for 3oz. The other labels showed 3g of carbs per 3oz. I didn't check the ingredients item for item but maybe I should have.

Anyway I find it very confusing unless Hormel is in the process of changing the cure process or correcting old labels.
