Cheesecake Factory
Headed there for dinner tonight. Just wondered if anyone has the scoop on the Low Carb Cheesecake they offer. What does TCF define as low carb?
I'll probably just end up with a decaf coffee but figured I would ask

So called LC cheesecake has 37 carbs for the plain cheesecake (no berries) and 12 net carbs, if you subtract the sugar alcohols. Keeping in mind that sugar alcohols actually affect many people just like any other carb, it's certainly no carb bargain. Also, almost 600 calories, if that matters. It's voodoo marketing.

I ordered it once to see what it was like. It tasted great, however I felt awful for the next few days. I tend to feel bad when I eat higher carbs than normal, but maybe it was all of the sugar alcohols. I felt very run down and lethargic. Personally, I won't get it again.

I've had a slice every time I've been there, and it didn't upset anything for me. I even had a slice for my birthday last year. I'm not a fan of splenda so it wasn't the most delicious dessert in the world, but I enjoyed it with coffee after our meal just like everyone else.

Just FYI, it's sweetened with Splenda, which is not a Sugar alcohol. I understand that despite this it might cause digestive upset to some- but just wanted to clarify.
Their nutritional content says 11 net carbs. I've had it before, I think its slightly "grainier" then normal cheesecake but not bad at all. I split a piece with my husband.

Rose, I'm interested to know where you got your info? I'd love to read the ingredient list. When I was there the menu claimed 6 net carbs and only mentioned Splenda. I wonder if it's changed over time? Not being snarky, just genuinely interested.

I wonder if the "lc crumb" is the graham cracker?

Thank you, Rose and Lisabinil! They have a lot of nerve charging $47 for a cheesecake made with artificial vanilla and bulked out with soy powder, lol! Voodoo marketing, indeed!

Thanks all - when I was there they told me each slice had 42 grams of carbs. I didn't even bother to ask about net carbs. We ended up not getting any dessert there - the others with me decided they didn't want all the calories that would come with their cheesecakes. lol

I wish they would take out the Splenda all together. I know many low-carbers have their own views on artificial sweeteners, but I just don't sit well with ingesting chemicals and chlorinated sugar molecules. Gross.
Erythritol I cannot handle well, which is weird because most people handle that just fine. Does anyone else have a hard time with this one? My body is more in tune with Xylitol. I haven't tried maltitol yet. |

Splenda sits just fine...I think its odd that they label things as "sweetened with splenda" and it's one of the last ingredients on the list. I dislike when "mailtiol" is toward the top of the list because that definitely doesn't sit right! ![]()

Cheesecake factory's numbers don't add up
They state:
57gm fat = 520 cal and I calculate: 39gm total carb @ 4 cal/gm = 156 cal 16gm protein @ 4cal/gm = 64 cal for a total of 740 calories, not 610 as they state. I'm new here, but I thought low-carbers were not so worried about total calories as total grams of carb. Thank you Nancy |
