Which is your preferred protein powder (brand)?

Hey everyone, I've been craving some Dobie muffins and realized I don't have any protein powder. Last I used was "protein whey isolate" by Designer Whey; however, I don't think Netrition carries this anymore.

Any brand/advice would be appreciated.

I like the Designer Whey Chocolate Peanut Caramel ( lots of flavors in one!) and the Optimum Nutrition Casein Chocolate Pudding. I seem to have better luck in cooking with the whey. Good luck!!

I get the Body Fortress at Walmarts. I'd bet that is what she is referring to. Body Fortress is a good brand....but someone here....SPOILED me when they kept talking about the Jay Robb.

Usually just Designer Whey vanilla -- you can mix it with a variety of flavors.

I like the cheap stuff from Wal-mart. I believe it is Body Fortress. I've researched protein powders a lot and came to my own conclusion that the cheap stuff is very good and effective for the money.

I'm not sure if you are looking for plain or flavored whey protein powder? I like the chocolate Body Fortress powder when drinking it mixed with water. I can hardly choke down the vanilla...

Jay Robb?

I haven't heard of this one before. Normally I use the optimum protein powder. I always use it in a blender w/ other things mixed in. Right now my favorite morning drink is the Big Train iced mocha, mixed w/ Almond Joy unsweetened vanilla and a scoop of choc protein powder. I am VERY picky w/ taste and texture. So, is the Jay Robb very yummy on it's own? I would love a good Pina Colada or someone mentioned a fuzzy navel flavor from Syntrax that is just like a orange Julius. That would be GREAT!

I make protein powder pudding by mixing PP with a little unsweetened almond milk or with HC. I have noticed that the "fluffiness" of PP makes a better tasting pudding--the Syntrax nectar chocolate truffle is by far my favorite. I think if you are making smoothies or shakes it matters less.

Do you just blend those two ingredients together and it thickens into pudding or do you need to add eggs and cook? or ice? thanks

one scoop PP and a dollop of unsweetened almond milk (maybe 1/4 cup--or a couple of Tbs of heavy cream-- you have to try and see) stir stir stir. At first it is like a ball and then smoothes out to a thin pudding like consistency. I add a couple of drops of mint extract to the chocolate (and sometimes a Tbs of Hersheys special dark cocoa which adds a carb)--mmmm. chocolatey minty goodness that FILLS you up for about 110 cals. You can try different extracts for different flavour combos.

I love the Designer Whey PP. I'm able to buy it locally so I don't need to order online.

Which flavors are you using?
Is anyone using the cappachino? Can you mix it in hot water without clumping to make a hot cappachino?
I bought the cherry, but am not real excited about it. reminds me of koolaid. If anyone has any ideas of how to use it, let me know.

My favorite is the Optimum Nutrition brand with casein in it. After drinking whey proteins for a few months the protein stopped filling me up like it used to. Casein does fill me up and it tastes better IMO.

From what I've read - casein is also a protein that releases more slowly into the blood stream (helping even more with appetite).

I have been using vanilla bean torte it is the most versatile for me. I like all I have tried. I use them for cold drinks I don't know about hot.

Syntrax Nectar flavors are really hard to beat if you want fruit flavors - haven't been overly thrilled with anything other then their fruit flavors though. Fuzzy Navel and Crystal Sky being my favorites from them.

4EverFit makes two excellent fruit flavored proteins. CranRazz and Tropical Mango are awfully good.

For non-fruit flavors I prefer the Ultra Peptide products from Xtreme Formulations. Especially since I can buy them in 5 pound tubs. Their Chocolate Peanut Butter and Mochachino flavors are permanently in my rotation. Their Lemonade flavor is also pretty darn spectacular.

Xtreme Formlations also makes a slow digesting casein protein power called Ultra Peptide 2.0 - I generally use their Strawberry, Cookies-n-Creme or Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor for a night time snack.

Netrition sells Pro Blend 55

You can get Pro Blend 55 in various flavors. I bought alpine vanilla (3) and chocolate (1) in 2 lb containers.

Here's what I like about it:

1) Tastes great
2) Not too expensive
3) Uses only sucarlose (Splenda) and no Ace-K or aspartame. I'm wary of Ace-K and I don't believe one should bake with aspartame as it is not heat stable.
4) It is combination of concentrates, isolates and hydrolyzed whey protein. I once bought something that was just made from whey concentrates - ugh, what a horrible mistake!

I like vanilla designer whey, which I then flavor however I want...chocolate, coffee, mocha, strawberry, lemon, cherry, orange, pineapple... to me, it makes more sense than having 5 different protein powders in 5 different flavors. No matter how good a flavor is, after about 3 shakes I get tired of it...and still have a huge container left.

Joni, I only use my protein powders in baking and in confections and protein bars, etc. I have rarely used them in shakes, but what a good idea. That makes sense.
