Instant Drink Mixes w/o Aspartame

Hey All,

Does anyone know of any instant drink mixes (powder type) that do not contain aspartame? I used to drink a lot of Crystal Light, but I'm trying to eliminate aspartame from my diet. (I do not drink diet soda.)

I drink about a gallon of plain water a day, and usually don't mind it, but every now and then, I get in the mood for something with actual flavor. Please don't suggest squeezing a few drops of lemon juice into water...just not gonna do it.

What do you drink when you want something like this? I'm thinking of just brewing a pitcher's worth of fruity herbal tea, sweetening it with stevia, and keeping it in the fridge. I'm sure that'll be fine for when I'm home, but the Crystal Light to-go packs were so convenient. Is there anything I can keep in my purse? (Or at work...if I ever get employed again?!)

Thanks in advance.

Hey there Goldenrod -

I think 4Cs drink mixes are splenda sweetened if you can find those in your area. I've used them in the past and they're pretty good.

Good luck kicking the aspartame habit, I haven't been able to give up the Diet Pepsi yet

Enjoy your Saturday...

Do they make other flavors other than tea? Tea makes me nauseous.

Humm...wondered if you don't like lemon but.. I use like a cup of fresh lemon juice to make a huge pitcher of Lemonaid with stevia.
I do this pretty often. It's good. and good for your liver (which is what I am concentrating on right now)... I also like this mixture to soda water as well.

Hey Dwight & Kelly -

they do actually...you can get everything from lemonade to morning orange & pomegranite (sp?) - cranberry.

I like the apple to flavor things and the orange to drink. I mix with a very little water to start and then some club soda because I like the fizz...

HTH,

Hey Kelly -

I KNOW! Vanilla DP is my absolute FAVORITE and the don't stock it in New England anymore

I stock up when I go home to Pittsburgh as I can still find it there most times, but I usually run out before I get back there again...

I drink the regular with a twist of lime, but I miss my vanilla!!

I miss the Diet Lemon Coke.

In the afternoon/evening I brew up pitchers of iced decaf tea. It works pretty well for me. If you have an icemaker at work, you can just brew the tea double strength, then add ice (say you brewed up a 2 cup portion, except you used 1 cup water. Then you'd add 1 cup ice to it, and your sweetener). It's very good.

Amy - I like Stevita (either orange or punch, I have both) - I use far less than the amount on container, just enough for a touch of flavor. You could keep a little bit of powder in a small container (like photo film size) and keep it in your purse. In fact, although sounds a bit odd, maybe even an old hotel shampoo container (or something like that) - that would hold enough for several drinks.

..Otherwise I tend to do a huge pitcher of fruit tea

Green tea w/cranberry & Pomegranate, Fennel tea, Mint tea, Orange and Lemon infusion....options are endless!

DH likes this too. His favorite is lime. For myself, I make homemade lemonade and limeade.

You can always take a package of unsweetened Koolaid and add your favorite Sweetener to it. Making the koolaid up ahead and putting it recycled water bottles might be an easy way to do this. I'm sure it would keep in the fridge for several days.

We, at first, had one grocery store carrying it. I stocked up all the time. Now, all three of our major grocery stores are carrying it and so is my local Walmart. Although, it is still only available in 12 pack cans. I'm just happy it's available. I hope 2 liter bottles and 16 oz. bottles are next.

Are you specifically looking for a powder you can just mix with water? If you like tea, you can buy powdered ice tea mix (unsweetened) then add your own sweetener. You could probably also do that with any of the real lemon, lime, or orange powders too.

I like sparkling water for a change of pace... La Croix lemon is my fave right now. I like the Faygo's too. But usually I drink water or black or peppermint (or chai) decaf iced tea.

I like CarolynF's idea about using plain Koolaid with a different sweetener, though! When I was a kid, I used to use koolaid mixes to color and add flavor to cupcake frosting.

I've been using TrueLemon and TrueLime packets (there's an orange one too, but I don't like it as much). Carry one packet of lemon or lime, and one packet of stevia -- instant portable limeade or lemonade! Especially good in seltzer!

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'll definitely be on the lookout for those Celestial Seasonings instant packs. (I hate hot herbal tea, but I don't mind it cold. Don't know why...I like black tea just fine when it's hot.)

Sandra -- great tip about using a film container to carry the powder around. I do that with vitamins! I think I saw Stevita on Netrition once, but I didn't take a good look at it. Guess it's time to check it out! (How will I explain the random, unlabeled poweder in my purse if I get pulled over by the cops? LOL! This came up in a thread a while back...how we all carry vitamins and supplements in baggies or other containers in our purses, cars, etc. Ha!)

I brew several bags of decaf lipton tea to my desired strength, let cool and put it in a tupperware pitcher then flavor it with Da Vinci's Sugar Free Raspberry syrup....that's my favorite.

I've also done the unsweetened Kool-aid and added Splenda to taste. I've been meaning to try this method using carbonated water but haven't gotten around to it yet.

How about the flavored seltzer? Not the sweetened with splenda or aspartame stuff, just the seltzer (like the Vintage brand).

No sodium, nothing in it. Just water. I drink a ton of the stuff.

I use green tea bags & brew several pitchers per day. Sometimes add some davinci's vanilla, but mostly just drink iced & plain. I gave up sweetners except an occasional davinci shot.
