Cold Hands?
Are cold hands common in LC? I read a bit through google search that it is but I can't see why.
Any thoughts? |

When I slip and drop out of ketosis I know that I'm back in because I get cold feet at bedtime. I've noticed my fingers will get cold easily too but my biggest problem is frozen feet at night. I've kind of chalked it up to a combination of eating very low carb and my hormones being out of whack.

I believe cold extremities are common on any weight loss program.

I have cold feet and hands, especially when fasting. I ate what is almost a fat bomb yesterday and realized I still had cold hands and feet, but somehow it bothered me a lot less.
Thanks. Srinath. |

I have been diagnosed with Raynaud's syndrome (primary) which is an auto-immune disease and is cold hands to an extreme. Cold and sometimes stress triggers circulation to be cut off to one or more fingers and they turn completely white until I can warm them back up. I now believe my ketogenic diet triggered the Raynaud's, based on information I discovered recently, and the fact that my first Raynaud's attack was about a month after I started keto. I figured this out when I started having a lot more carb "cheats" last summer/fall and thus am no longer in ketosis, but have not had one Raynaud's attack this winter. Raynaud's attacks were a daily occurrence for me the past several winters while I was in ketosis, even while taking medication to try and help the Raynaud's. I have gained some weight from over-eating, however, so I am now attempting to transition to the Perfect Health Diet which is a lowish carb paleo-type approach which incorporates "safe starches" daily into the diet. Note, I don't believe it was the weight loss itself that was the issue, as I was maintaining my weight for about 3 years and still had the daily Raynaud's attacks in the winter. I am still working on it, but I hope the new WOE will eventually mean I can start losing weight again while keeping the Raynaud's at bay. It is hard because I am also insulin resistant and if I overdo the carbs I feel terrible. But if I had to pick weighing more or dealing with Raynaud's attacks daily, I will take the weighing more hands down.

Mistizoom - sorry to hear of your challenges but happy you are finding some relief. I wonder if you have tried the GAPS protocol. It is suppose to be good at reversing some auto immune issues. Might be worth looking at if you haven't already....

Hi Cathy, thanks! I haven't taken a look at GAPS but I am also reviewing the Wahls Protocol and AIP (Paleo Autoimmune Protocol), so I will add GAPS onto the list to consider.

I am wondering if I have got this now.
Is there a test for it ? I guess I'll have to google away. Thanks. Srinath. |

Mistizoom...sorry about your challenges. Look into all your choices. Remember you will not always see results right away. I go to a very well known pain specialist who recommended exercise to help reduce my pain. It took 3 months of daily exercise to start to see the difference. Yours is an auto immune issue way different then my issue. Just. Don't want you to give up if you don't see results right away. Best wishes to you.
