Most people gain weight eventually after bariatric surgery. My next-door neighbor is huge now; he just has to eat slower. He even says he doesn't like sweets. So what does he eat, I wonder?

Unless people change how they eat, surgery ain't gonna work long-term.

BTW, I'm posting my weight elsewhere on this forum. I got tired of typing in the same GD number 6-8 days in a row. Now I don't have to, even though I weigh every day.

I had a doctor's appointment today and my normally very stoic and stern doctor honest to goodness smiled when she saw me, and said "you have lost weight", and I almost fell off my chair because she no word of a lie, giggled, when she took my blood pressure. It will be worth pushing through this slow/no loss period just to see her face like that again.

Blood pressure has gone from "holy crap!" to low normal.

CRAZY DAY from start to finish!

I guess I started the Blood Pressure discussion and pretty much abandoned it.

Yes, I still take Lisinopril, since I started in Mid-February....10 mg once a day. But in late July, I had my dose increased to 20mg, once a day. Now....I'm back to 10 and seeing waaay better numbers, all day long! The clinic advised me their goal is to get me off it entirely at some point.

In an email, my nurse-practitioner said something good about my progress in regard to weight and Blood Pressure: "....For now, you are making great progress!! You are such an inspiration!"

When I was 322 pounds, I could sit very still and sometimes detect small, rhythmic motions of my body, corresponding to my heartbeats.I KNEW that meant too high of Blood Pressure!

My Dad and his Dad BOTH had High Blood Pressure and suffered from "mini strokes" called TIA's. The handwriting was on the wall for me.

Time to sign off, but one more thing. Combination keys Control-C and Control-V make quick work of Copy and Paste within Windows. (Was it Susan46 asking about re-typing?? I forget...) So you can just sweep through the text, hit Control-C (to Copy) then Control-V to Paste (I remember it....by thinking Value.)

I Don't know if it works with Macs.

September Goal - 160
Other goals for this month - Just bought a home gym so... 3 days a week on that and ride my bike to work at least two days a week. That oughta do it. OH and start tracking my food better.

9/1 - 173.4
9/2 - 171.4
9/3 - 170.8
****
9/8 - 173.4 back where I started
9/9 - 172.6
9/10 - 172
9/11 - 171.4
9/12 - 170.2
9/13 - 170.2 Was Perfectly On Plan today but ate a bit more than usual
9/14 - 171.2

Dunno how I could be up a pound, I was busy as could be yesterday, skipped breakfast and lunch, all I ate 4 chicken wings with a side of green beans with artichoke dip melted on top.

Well, at least you aren't up over one pound like me!

9/01 254.8
9/10 250.8
9/11 249.5
9/12 249.7
9/13 248.8
9/14 250.2

However, I am fully aware of why I'm up. I had work to do later last night, and I thought, "Hey, I should have some coffee!".

Well, the late coffee has kept me up most of the night, and when I'm up most of the night, I get bored, and when I get bored, I eat, and when I eat in the middle of the night, I am not eating anything good.

Lesson learned, no late coffee. The trick today is going to be staying awake all day so that I can get a good night's rest tonight.

I'm thinking I might skip eating today, just to try it.

Still in the honeymoon phase! ooh la la!

Charlotte, I totally agree with the bariatric surgery not being a permanent fix. My mom went through it back in the 90's. Sure, she lost weight and got skinny. But then real life happened, she got bored being skinny, and now she's as big as she was before the surgery. And she STILL has to eat small portions! DOUBLE WHAMMY!

Laura, a couple years ago after losing about 60, my doc looked at my chart, looked up at me and exclaimed "wow! you've lost a small child!!" That was awesome!

Michael. Real life. Congrats for posting it!!

Happy Thursday!

I thought when I got older, I would be more patient. It really hasn't worked out that way.

I don't like to be stuck, and especially going backwards.

The only variation from plan perfection since Sunday, was yesterday, and it hardly counts.

My workload was horrific yesterday and I ended up grabbing some sausages at a Quik Trip, that I've lost weight with many times before. I was low on calories for the day, and WAAAAAY low on protein and especially fat and thought it'd be okay.

Well, today I have a headache and feel pretty poor. Not awful....but not good.

Also, my target feeding window of 4 hours got stretched by 15 minutes, but that wouldn't make me feel bad.

Dunno.....

Onward.

Some REALLY GREAT POSTS the last couple of days. I always read every one, every day. It's part of the "community" that has become so important to me.

Holly. I'm speechless. So I'll simply just rejoice with you. I know you won't mind.

Michael, the honesty is just part of the deal.

(Oh and fasting will kill you. Ask anybody. Don't do it. Not even one day.)

Back On Track Laura, Baby steps are a foundation to build on!

DONT SAY ANYTHING!!! Seriously.. please?
Dont get me wrong, I'm stoked but it's not real yet until I bounce so no point in celebrating a fake number, for all I know I'll give up tonight after my day is done.

Day 10 - mentally hating fasting, physically tired, but determination says just one more day, just one more day. I need to build in a buffer zone but I'm just not sure I have enough will in me to do so. We'll see. I'm okay if I quit. My fast started at 8pm so I tell myself that if I'm going to break I can only do it at night. By the time I get through the day it's almost bed time so I tell myself to just go to bed and think about it. When I wake I'm busy getting kids to school and then since DH is away I veg during the day, pick kids from school, make dinner do home work and make lunches, play with kids, get them to bed and by then we'll, it's almost the end of the day. Rinse and repeat.

Also I tried to measure my height, not 100% sure that my pencil was straight but looks like I'm now 5'8".

114/76 pulse 63 was my reading.. I have no idea if that's good, normal etc. Off to google it.

Also, I see a few people here dropping the pounds all sneaky like.. I see you! Great job!

LOL about the child. When I had lost about 60 lbs. a while back, I went hiking with my daughter who weighed 60 lbs. at the time. I gave her a piggy back ride for part of it and could not believe the difference. It wasn't so noticeable losing a little at a time.

Might if need to try broth but doing good.Last week as you know I had to stop on my 4th day}which I was so close in doing.
Friday going to stop, for have a outing Sat. But keep cals and good healthy food choices. Cals>500.
And some time next week try another fast.
I have read on line that doing fast, you gain it all back after u have food.
Weight loss Is mostly water weight.Hope that is not true. Working hard Not to gain. .

Kind, you are burning fat, period. What else would you be running on? With no food intake, (after a day or so of glucose burning) it ABSOLUTELY results in using your fat stores.

THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS.

I'll try to show you (and LYLOTTE whom I am sworn not to congratulate at this juncture) what can happen with a careless break-fast. I circled it.

Each steep drop in the chart is a fast. Each one has a bounce following it, but the one I circled was really bad, and it was my fault. It followed 11 days of water only.

FOR ME....overall.... fasting provides clarity of purpose and continued motivation more than actual weight loss. YMMV But you absolutely will burn fat and that's the goal, right?

Ummmmmm.......But for Michael, Fasting Kills.

It reminds me of a quote by Brook Shields, mediocre actress from decades ago (and apparently NOT a MENSA candidate) that applies here.

Brook Shields: "Smoking Kills. When you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life."

Simply Brilliant.

Just substitute Fasting for Smoking.

Doesn't a Twinkie sound good during your next late work night , hmmmm?

(And barbecue--ESPECIALLY FREE barbecue!!-- tastes great, but I digress....)

Sorry, I can't respond right now. I tried fasting and I'm dead.

Really tough day today, I woke up craving a bagel soo badly(my downfall!). I did a taste test on the commercially available mail order ones and found one I like, but of course it was hard as a rock in the freezer. I(briefly)contemplated stopping by the local bagel joint and succumbing to the temptation. What the heck, I'm already up a pound for no reason, right? I'd even buy a dozen and treat the folks at work! Thank goodness I came and read this thread....y'all are so inspiring. And, I did NOT want to have to report my utter cave! I quickly made a lovely ham&cheese lettuce wrap (so important to have ready to eat stuff around). Right at noon my boss called me and needed financials for the past five years broken down by quarter, and a bunch of other stuff, oh and TODAY, and I said no, sorry, can't do it today, it'll have to be tomorrow (Does this count as a rant yet) and he says why. what's the hard part? "ummm, I have an appointment and should be on the road already" So feeling a little stress. ...and still craving that darn bagel! I stopped by a nice deli that has great chicken salad sandwiches but I ended up with a bit of a mystery meal, roasted eggplant stuffed with roasted veggies. I think it'll be ok, I don't know how they could wreck that with carbs. Finally made it home at 7, gonna take a little break and prolly have to work all night to get it done. sigh Thanks to Michael's excellent post I'll be extra careful! Ok rant over. Have a nice Cobb salad if I get hungry, and I reckon it wouldn't hurt to get one of those bagels out of the freezer!
