Marco?

I came by to read up on some of my favorite people and it seems like the WLS board is empty! I admit I haven't been back for some time but I really wanted to "see" everyone and get the virtual lift I get whenever I read your posts helping each other and sharing challenges and successes.

If anyone is out there here is a quick recap of me: did low carb faithfully and lost 60 lbs. Was working out, eating right, and the weight stopped coming off. I looked good but got very frustrated and made bad choices - totally my fault.

In 2011 I got the Lap Band. It was not successful for me. I gave it 5 years - I only lost 20 lbs and that was in the first 6 months. It works for some but not for me. I also got married, had a baby, and got a new job in that time so I wasn't just sitting on my duff!

I decided to get the band removed before I had any further issues (was causing some discomfort) and while speaking with the surgeon she suggested a gastric bypass. After doing much research and speaking with others who have had the same procedure I decided to do it.

So here I am, past all my clearances and just waiting for my surgery at the end of August. I am so hopeful that this will help, along with modified low carb, to free me not only from the extra weight but help with my type II diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholestorol. I so want to be off these meds! And I need to be around for my child - get healthy and get control.

I know WLS is just a tool and my tool box must be filled with healthy eating, exercise, and SUPPORT. Will you help me? You are all so wonderful and I feel like I can do this with you cheering me on.

Thanks in advance for help. Anything you wish to share that you think will help is welcome.

Oops!

Totally forgot to mention that my husband is totally supportive and is willing to do low carb with me to help me stay healthy. I didn't want anyone to think he wasn't on board! Sorry honey

EIM IS THE WORST ADVICE EVER!!! The everything in moderation. . So not good . I am on on a board that have thousands of WLS patients who took that advice and now they are struggling to get back on track. Some have gained all of their weight back. Just be for warned.

MAryposa*`I agree eating carbs for me just doesn't work for me either it just makes me crave so why even put yourself in that turmoil again and again. So not worth the hassel.

About a week away...

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. EIM is not my friend - got it! Really enjoy low carb, disapointed in myself for getting hooked on crappy, fake food again but I will get back on track!

I am still in my 2 week pre-surg full liquid diet. In 9 days I will be having surgery. I'm nervous (as with any surgery) but hopeful. I have been pretty tired (and at times cranky) on the liquids only it's only for a short time. I will keep everyone updated on my progress!

Countdown

So by this time Thursday I should be finished my surgery. 2 more days. Running through everything in my mind, getting mentally prepared, this is just a step on my journey - I still have more steps to take. Wish me luck!

I'm alive!

Hi everyone!

Well I made it! Surgery went well, only had to spend 1 night in the hospital. My husband was so helpful. Was out of work 2 weeks - doc said I could stay out more but I felt ready to come back. Had a boat load of stuff to catch up on so now that I'm in a good spot I wanted to say hi and I'm good!

Finished 2 weeks of liquids and now onto pureed. 2 weeks of pureed then on to soft. It's nice to have something more than liquids! Eating small amounts and doing well. I've only be actually hungry once but that was because I didn't pay attention and waited too long between feedings (he,he - like a zoo animal!)

So at my 2 week check in I was down 6 lbs. Still a bit swollen and the assistant immediately starting telling me not to be upset that I was only down 6 lbs. I was like it's okay, I'm happy it's down! I know some people lose more in the 2 weeks after but everyone is different. I will take slow and steady as long as it's losing not gaining!

Will keep you updated on my progress - thanks everyone!

"steady" exactly... that is what really makes the difference with WLS. The steady downward movement... 10lb/month for 10 months is 100lb! Whereas with a regular diet someone might lose 10lb the first month and stall after that.

Glad to hear you are doing well!

Happy Monday!

Enjoying my pureed diet right now. Will be moving on to soft foods shortly. Honestly made a few missteps but I'm learning. For example, I totally didn't pay attention and took a sip of water without waiting an hour after I ate. It was so hot out and I wasn't thinking. AND I need to eat slower! Even with the pureed food I feel like I'm eating too fast... which will definately cause problems as I move along to more solids.

I'm a work in progress. A little scared as I head towards more solids, easier to screw up ! Liquids were easy - real food takes more thought... Found a couple of very helpful blogs especially one from Eggface (not sure if I'm allowed to post a link?).

Getting labs done next week so hopefully I'll be able to get off some meds or at least get the doses lowered. Fingers crossed!
