I am just starting back on low carb also. I love this site - so much information and encouragement!

I cut all sugar, flour, and caffeine starting February 14, 2017. I'm feeling much better and have been exercising regularly but no weight loss yet. So I am trying to reduce carbs to get into ketosis.

Thank you, Puppy love.

That encouragement means a lot to me right now. Reduced carbs today and feeling pretty bad right now, tired and confused.

Carb withdraw is very common some people have it more severe than others. It gets better you just gotta stick to it. You got this....remember you can do anything you set your mind to.

Serendipity! Love your screen name.

You likely need to replace electrolytes. The best and easiest way is to consume 2 cups of regular salt broth. This should help you feel much better.

Thank you sooo much Puppy Love, Clackley, and Too Sweet!

I added salted chicken broth in today and am feeling pretty solid. I think I just broke into ketosis! Cutting the sugar and flour last month had the biggest withdrawals, so sick for a couple of weeks. My modified induction is going well now. I was at under 80 grams of carbs daily before I cut them further this week. So now I'm somewhere between 30 and 40. Might go lower if necessary but would like to retain the extra vegetables if my body tolerates it.

So excited about ketosis!!!

I'm also thankful for this forum. I was considering going low carb because of the research support and the fact that I don't tolerate carbs well. This has become very clear to me over time. But I didn't have any support or friends who agree with this approach. They are so freaked out by low carb that it's discouraging to bring it up. So thank you for creating this group and for your friendly, open forum. It is a huge support and source of information. :-)

Hello low carb people

I am in no way new to low carb, but I am new to discussions forums relating to low carb or weight loss. I have been ultra successful on LCHF with and without fasting at least 3 times (okay probably 4, would you believe 5?), but each time I end up becoming consumed by stupid and convince myself I could go off plan for just one meal or just one snack. Disaster would always ensue. Like an alcoholic deciding he can have just one drink or my wife deciding to buy just one pair of shoes (oh crap did I type that out loud?). Then over the next 6 months or so I would gain back all I lost and then some. And that "then some" pushed me from fat to how the hell did I let this happen to me!? I have the knowledge, I have the ability, I have the experience, and I have the desire. I just need the mental fortitude to make this a lifelong change. A lifelong change without cheating. Ever. For anyone reason. No matter what. Not even once. I am a classic sugar addict and carboholic, and I am (curse curse) sick of it. Really (curse curse) sick of it. Time once again to burn off the fat. Only this time it is going to be permanent.

My plan is basically low carb, moderate fat (plus what's on my belly), moderate protein (highly prone to gluconeogenesis), and lots of fasting.

Why I am seeking out a community of low carb consumers this time around I do not know. Found myself surfing the net and ended up here, decided to do something productive I guess. Unlike some others I am not lacking in support, I have the means to eat LCHF without issue, I am a meal planner that loves to cook, I have read several books and watched every single video on Diet Doctor like 3 times, and in all aspects of my life except body fat I am a pretty strong willed and successful person. In fact my life is pretty great as long as I don't look in the mirror, have to attend a meeting in a room with an undersized chair with arms, or need to clip my own toenails. But B+ is just not cutting it anymore, I want the solid A life that I know I can have. So perhaps I am here for both immersion onto the LCHF culture and to seek out some kind of accountability that perhaps was lacking in my prior attempts.

Anyway that's me. Thanks for letting me join up.

Welcome MJC. I know you can do it this time. There are several sub-forums in here that might help you out some, especially the recipes.

Hi MJC,
I found your post humorous and all-too-true. I believe the things we consider failures are really just learning experiences. Perhaps some of us (raising my hand here) need a certain lesson a few times before really "getting" it. Kind of like beating one's head against a wall.

Good luck and glad you're here!

Started today with low carb. Doing a 2 to 4 week "induction" depending on how it goes. My greatest weakness is sugar!! I drink a large iced coffee with cream and sugar from Starbucks every morning and today it was hard to just drive by with my water. BUT..i have goals. I had twin boys last year and they will be 1 in 2 months. My first mini goal is to just lose as much as I between today and their party (July 8th). Looking forward to this group!!!!

Welcome Brittany! I just wanted to tell you that I drink iced coffees from S.B. and what I do is have them make me a double espresso over ice in a plastic cup and then I add cream (and a.s. if desired). It is a real treat.

Congrats on your twins! Come join us on the main board!

Hi! I am introducing myself. I was on SSRI's and Mood Stabilizers, and 2 HBP pills, all 4 were drugs that make you gain weight. I was already 80 pounds overweight, the weight began to pile up exponentially, like gaining 10 pounds one week and not eating much. Then, I read about Nutritional Psychiatry, where Doctors help people with depression and so on using nutrition, mainly HF/LC diets. I was very interested this and decided to wean myself off of the drugs, (which you are not allowed to do!!!!) and now, except for one non-psychiatric drug, I am Pharmaceutical Free. I went on HF/LC March 17th BMI 43.0
and had lost 21 pounds by March 27. I imagine a lot of that was water due to the pills I was taking. April 7th I will find out if I lost any more or gained it back. (I amusing the hospital scale, which is why the gap in time, I do not want to change scales.) I am buying a glucometer as well. I could not afford the keytone machine. I have used the sticks and have been in keytoses (faint) from the 3rd day.

One thing I have discovered is that the ratio of fat to meat is really important. I am trying to get about 75-80% of calories from fat. This means a ton of butter, etc. But this is making my hair glow, and my skin look really good. Oh well, that is about all, I am female, 57 years old, and need to lose-- 135 pounds.

Welcome Kalyke!! Looks as if you are off to an awesome start! Many, many people are able to get off all prescription drugs with a well formulated low carb/high fat ketogenic diet. I am one. I only take synthroid but at one time I was on 2 b.p. drugs, a statin and an anti depressant. Seven years later, still don't need them.
