Hello all!

Sorry to be MIA...it was a crazy work week. And this coming week will be even worse, I fly to San Francisco on Sunday night for work, fly to Los Angeles on Monday night and then fly home to NJ on Thursday night. Weeks like that = eating on the run And typically not enough time for exercise, although I will definitely bring my sneakers. sigh.

In any case, this week's eating and exercise has been pretty good. My weigh-in this morning was okay - down 1/2 lb. I indulged a bit on Easter, and the scale showed it. But I got that indulgence off, plus the additional half lb. So not bad, all in all.

Heading to the Asbury Park Music Festival tonight - seeing Mike and the Mechanics (Mike Rutherford of Genesis and his solo band.) The festival raises money for some local NJ charities. Should be a fun night!

Penny, glad to hear the surgery went well and you are making good progress.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! TGIF

Happy Friday Everyone,
Glad to hear from you Wiz. Congrats on the 1/2 lb loss. The music festival sounds like fun, hope the weather holds up for you.

Pretty good eating yesterday and today, although I need to get more veggies in. The price of Romaine hearts has increased dramatically here and they have gotten harder to find. Sign at the grocery store said it had to do with the heavy rains in California. I'm missing my salads and lettuce wraps.

Official weigh day tomorrow. Not sure that the scale has moved at all, but I am moving more so that may be affecting it. Walked 15 min again yesterday and did 15 min on my
Simply Fit Board today as the weather in the northeast is kind of yucky.

Have a great weekend,
Rosie

Interestingly, both the orthopedic surgeon and my family doctor are very interested in the stem cell treatment. They have both said they are going to follow my progress closely. Stem cell treatment is relatively new, so I think they are reserving their judgement. But they both said it may well be the answer. Time will tell.

Hi Everybody!

Thoght I'd just drop in and say hi. Nothing new. Tomorrow is the end of my Phase 1. I went grocery shopping and basically will be following SBD probably 70-80%. I haven't worried about weighing because like Rosie, I'm moving more so that will have an effect.

Rosie...I do believe doing the 15 minute 1 Mile Walk helps us to even improve more.

I'm so happy because I did two miles today. Oh, there was a pause during Mile 1, but I did get through Mile 2 without a pause. Most likely because a pause before starting Mile 2. Took me 36 minutes to get through a 28 minute program. I'm pleased. I haven't mentioned it here, but I have lung damage from breathing in bug spray, a cheaper product than the popular one, Nov. of 2013. Have gone downhill because when one can't breathe, one has the tendency to take it easier which is the worse thing to do. Anyway started on Expand-A-Lung 26 days ago and it sure has helped. Found it by accident on YouTube: ZHealthPerformance

He's a doctor. I do believe sometimes the Almighty leads us.

Good luck to everyone. Sounds like we're all on a slower path, but that's great as we're getting healthier and healthier while mostly eating healthy.

Poor wiz! What a schedule!

Hi All,
Saturday was weigh in day and I'm down 1 more lb. Going to slowly move on to Phase 2. Definitely need to re-read that part of the book and then make a trip to the grocery store. Had a multigrain sandwich round with deli chicken and zucchini slices for lunch. What has everyone else started with when they moved to Phase 2?

Sharon, You doubled your walk, that's great progress. You really sound determined to improve. I've done my 15 min every day except only squeezed in 10 today, but made up for it with two sprints from the soccer field to the car. We have inspired my daughter to wear her pedometer again, she is keeping track of how many steps she takes each day.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Hi Everyone!

Rosie...Congratulations on your 1 lb loss! Another Congratulations in keeping to your daily walk. I had to smile at your sprinting twice from the soccer field! I'll tell ya, count your blessings you can do that! Don't want to lose that! That's wonderful your daughter has been inspired by you!

I should clarify that when I do my Leslie Sansone Walks, mine is very modified. No way - yet - I can do the intensity she does, but I do think I'll be working up to that. When I can do the 2 Mile within her time, then I will start doing more during the walk. ie. Arm action and power walking.

Actually my Phase 2 meals won't be that different than Phase 1 except I will be eating more bread. I have a turkey roast in the oven that I've been saving for Phase 2 so I can enjoy turkey sandwiches. Now that's over and beyond what Phase 2 calls for, this is why I stated I'd be following SBD 70-80%. OTOH, I don't find SBD restrictive at all. I'm mainly eating healthier in following it like eating vegetables that I normally don't eat. I hate vegetables except very few like tomatoes and green beans.

Take care and Happy Wednesday tomorrow.

Happy Friday,
Wiz, I hope you survived your crazy week.
Gailbayne, I hope your recovery is continuing smoothly.
Sharon, Any avtivity you are doing is more than you were doing before you started. You inspired me to get moving too.

I was off my routine this week with family staying with us from out of town. I did manage 15 min of walking every day except for Wed. Took a nap instead, but I knew I needed it. Eating went a little sideways too. Ate out a couple of meals and it was too hard to resist the homemade mac'n'cheese. I will be freezing those leftovers in single servings and feeding them to DH. Curious what the scale says tomorrow . . .
Hope everyone has a great weekend,
Rosie

Hi All - I am progressing quite nicely. It's been almost 3 weeks since the surgery, and I do see improvement. I started my rehab again yesterday morning. Let me just say OUCH!! I was bemoaning all the results that I had achieved and thought I'd lost from before. Therapist said no, It would all come back. I think she's right, since I wasn't nearly as sore this morning as I thought I'd be.

As far as the weight loss, I have gained about 4 pounds since the surgery. I need to put my mind back into the game, now. I accomplished too much to let it all slide. Time to buckle down!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Hope this Monday is finding everyone in a positive state no matter what hills we are climbing!

Gail... So glad you're posting and glad to hear you're improving! Yes, hopefully you've gotten back on track as far as eating. You probably expected some weight gain with surgery and recuperating.

Rosie...Having family or anyone staying over is enough to throw us off our goal. Who can resist mac N cheese! Smart to take a rest when needed. Same thing happened to me.

As far as me, I've accomplished very little. Last Thursday my weight went up which was disgusting. However, I did realize I had been in poor physical shape before exercising so kind of expected regarding my weight loss. Also remembered how it's said seniors take more time healing after exercising.

So on Friday I did not exercise and when I weighted Sat. morning I had dropped 2 lbs. Now back to gaining since doing 1 Mile both on Saturday and Sunday. I plan on sticking to just 1 Mile/day with one day rest plus hopefully getting some yoga in. I didn't like seeing that big fat 0 on my Challenge Calendar, but got to do what we got to do!

Someone on Leslie's FB page was stating how she stayed 1 Mile for 2 weeks, then went up to 2 Miles, etc. Took her 3 months to get to where she is today (3-5 Miles).

As far as eating, maybe I'm eating too much. I have some meals already (leftovers) on hand, but later in the week I'm going to do a day or two of real low calorie eating hoping that will balance out between exercising and losing weight. haha

I'm looking forward to this coming week! Challenges galore! Take care all!

As a result of the 4 pound gain through surgery, I only lost 2.5 total for the month of April. Pretty poor. I guess I should be grateful I didn't gain. I am SUPER sore today after rehab yesterday. I am taking it easy today! Ice packs and hot tea.

Has anyone tried the cauliflower rice in the frozen foods section? We had the one with added peas and carrots. It is delicious as a stir fry. We couldn't tell it wasn't rice. Since I really miss my rice, I bought several bags. Having stewed beef and onions over "rice" tonight for dinner.

Hope everyone is doing well,
I am going to get on the scale on Monday and probably do phase 1 for a couple of days. Too many carbs have been creeping back on the plate and I have been dragging lately.
Happy Mother's Day to those that celebrate.

Hey Rosie...Hang in there!

For me, I'm sliding over to the JUDDD Plan starting tomorrow. I can still use SBD while doing the JUDDD plan. I looked into it a few years ago, but thought I could never do the DDs. But now I have some of their food ideas copied (and shopped for) I'm ready to tackle JUDDD.

I was either eating too much or exercise was having such an effect on my weight loss during my time on just the SBD. Plus I have to admit the JUDDD forum have so many people participating that it makes it more fun. It's kind of dead here although you've made it more fun by your contributions.

I don't see any current threads going here on the SBD site, so thought I would resurrect this old one.

Many months have gone by since I last posted here. There have been some good times in there, and some not so good!

In any case, yes, I am back on SBD Phase 1. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? Let's see if I can stick with it this time. I did SO well 9 years ago, kept the weight pretty much off for over 5 years. But have been backsliding ever since.

I am on Day 10, the eating and exercise has been very good. Cravings are gone (well, except for a glass of wine!!) I feel far less bloated and my energy levels are great. My sleep patterns have been off, which is weird. But who knows if that has anything to do with my eating...

Anyone else doing SBD and want to chime in? If I get anyone else on this thread, I will open a 2017 check-in thread instead of using the 2016 version.

Hi wiz! I just restarted today! I've been watching to see if anyone was still doing south beach and you're the first I've seen. Glad to see you back! I've mostly been a lurker but maybe this will be enough to bring me out and help me stay the course!

Hi Kim!! So happy to see someone else respond. Best of luck to you in this SBD journey

I had a grouchy day yesterday which is why I logged back in here. I needed to be held accountable I didn't have any cravings, but I was feeling kind of sorry for myself. It's so easy to gain weight, but seemingly takes forever to lose. I just want to wave my magic wand and be done!!

Totally agree! Have had so many downs this year, I keep trying for positives and then get set back. Today is day 2 so far so good but it's a struggle! Bad news keeps coming and I want to binge for comfort. Today has been so bad emotionally I've been thinking about going to the bar for a few. Neither one will fix the issues but it would be an escape.

Oh Kim, I hear ya!

A glass of wine (or three ) has always been my downfall. Too many calories and it lowers your will power not to eat crap. But I made myself a couple of rules until I start seeing some real progress - no alcohol during the week, no alcohol at home. For example, I was at a birthday party last Saturday and had some wine, but I loaded it up with ice.

Made a great dinner last night! Have you ever tried zucchini noodles? (zoodles) I sautéed some shrimp with halved grape tomatoes, quartered artichoke hearts (canned), clove of garlic, fresh basil and a pinch of red pepper flakes with a splash of wine and served it over the zoodles with a dusting of good quality parm cheese. It was delicious!

TGIF!! I hope you have a great weekend and stay on plan!!

Last two days were lousy with food. can't seem to get my head in it.

Love zucchini noodles! I'm not much of a fruit or veggie eater but that is one I eat.

Kim, So, what's up with the food angle? Too much stuff in your house? Going out to eat too often (my downfall)?

I've been trying to plot out my eating as carefully as possible these first couple of weeks. I have gone out for dinner, but I am eating at places where there are good choices for the SBD.

Example: Saturday night we ate at a place that has good roasted or grilled protein options. I had a Pork Loin chop on the bone with a horseradish sauce on the side, it came with roasted veggies and a starch. I asked for all veggies instead. I had wine with my dinner too.

I did see a small uptick on the scale on Sunday morning, but by this morning it was all gone plus more.

I have a long way to go so I have to be vigilant - but I am also not willing to live like a hermit. So it means planning stuff out in advance as much as possible.

FYI. This coming Saturday is a big event for us and I will likely have a "cheat" day. But I will definitely be back on SBD the very next day without fail.

I hope you have a great week!

I'm a binger and sleep eater and stress eater. I try to plan but haven't been sleeping well so it becomes a free for all. I get so down on myself I just give up. Right now I'm considering doing only protein shakes to take food out of the ewuation.

awwww.... I do agree, sleep is an important help or hindrance to our choices. Lack of sleep can definitely make you less careful and inclined to binge.

I've never been a protein shake (or any kind of shake, smoothie, etc. ) kind of person. I like to cook far too much, so enjoy different textures, flavors, etc. But I know plenty of people who go that route - protein shakes for 2 meals, and one nutritious meal (i.e. protein and veg).

FYI. I am going to make some kind of Mexican casserole tonight with ground turkey and some orange and yellow peppers I picked up at our local farmer's market. I'm not exactly sure, but thinking some kind of Taco style thing. No recipe, just using what I have on hand!

Hang in there!! It actually gets easier once you start to see some results because then you get excited to keep going. I think the first month is SO tough. You really don't see any difference in your clothes, body (although it is nice to see the scale moving) but then all of a sudden you've lost enough where your jeans aren't so tight any more, that cute top fits again, etc.

I go from feast to famine...No, I don't mean food. I mean on the scale. When I start weighing in, I am a bit obsessed But oh boy, when I go off plan and then ignore the scale - it can be weeks before I get back on. I need to find a happy medium.

Back when I lost weight the first time, Friday mornings were always my "official" weigh-in day. And that's my mindset this time too. I'm going to weigh in every morning (except Sunday - everyone needs a day off!!) but use Friday as the weekly number.

Building on my last post...today is my Friday this week. I am taking a 4 day weekend.

So while today's weigh-in was great - down 1.6 lbs since last Friday!! I am now going into a DANGER ZONE. 4 days off with lots of plans. Uh Oh

My goal is to weigh in Tuesday morning and be no more than 1 lb up and what I would really like to see is the same weight as today. Wish me luck!!

Kim, I hope you do well this holiday weekend. And if anyone else out there is reading this and would like to join in - please do!

Hello everyone! So glad to see this thread resurrected! In July I reached my goal weight after losing 15 pounds. It had been a long slow struggle of starting, failing and restarting and then finally staying on track and slow but steady success.
So now Im challenged with phase 3. A couple of pounds have come back and I really want to stay successful again. About 12 years ago I did the same, lost 15 stubborn pounds, actually went below my goal weight, and maintained for about 7-8 years. After I turned 40 it was down hill.
I'm 48 now and getting married in April, just purchased my gown so I really want to maintain this loss! I feel great when I have control over this.
I struggle with the wine too wiz, and actually never cut it out, I steadily lost on my own version of phase 1.5.
Hope everyone does well this holiday weekend! We are going to a wedding tonight so hoping for the best with the food!

Buckhuntress - congrats on the loss!! and on your upcoming wedding!! I know you have worked hard to get there, good for you.

I am interested to see my weight tomorrow morning. As I suspected, I was up 1 lb today, but have been pretty good all day (5 mile walk, veggie quiche for breakfast, salad with chicken for lunch, lots of water.) We are meeting friends at a local waterfront bar to hear a band we like later this afternoon, but I will most likely be pretty good. Maybe 1 drink. I am actually hoping I wake up tomorrow without a gain this weekend. Fingers crossed

Still had that pesky 1 lb weekend gain on the scale this morning.

But trying to have a really, really good day so it is gone by tomorrow. Lots and lots of water, plus all kinds of good veggies. We'll see!

I feel like Week 4 is kind of a make it or break it week. If I see some progress, I will be incented to keep going. But it I stay the same, I start getting annoyed and say "what the heck." That's when I backslide.

Roasting a pork loin with fresh rosemary and thyme from the garden, plus a huge head of cauliflower in the oven tonight. Yum!

I found a great new recipe - very easy!

I roasted a cut-up head of cauliflower florets with a small sliced onion, fresh thyme (although I am sure dried would be fine), salt, pepper with a coating of EVOO spray (I do my own in a washable container) on a cookie sheet in the oven at 425 for about 30 minutes (it got nice and brown) then added about 1/3 cup grated parm cheese for another 10 minutes until crispy.

I never thought of adding onion to cauliflower but it was really good. And the parm cheese gave it a nice salty, crispy taste.

Quick check-in!

Yesterday's weather was miserable here, so I headed into my basement to use my exercise bike. About 1 minute in, one of the pedals broke and the tension on the bike went. I've had this thing for about 25 years...guess I am due for a new one! That will be this weekend's mission.

No real movement on the scale today, just a slight tick down. Hoping for a big whoooosh tomorrow morning on my official weigh-in day.
