I'm continuing and enjoying it. Couldn't quite connect with Evolution as I had hoped but I sometimes add the circular pulsing into the moves just to vary them.
Oh, thanks Lina! It took a moment for me to figure out what the "pretzel" was, but I got. Ha ha!

Evolution has some really great stuff, but yes, we need to feel the connection too. I know many in previous threads much preferred Evo and the approach taken; others were 10/10 diehards.

Yesterday I went to visit a city where one of the main tourist attractions consisted of about 8 flights of stairs. I have done these stairs two other times, both before starting Callanetics, and both left me sweating and needing to pause.

This time, there was no struggle whatsoever. No sweat, no heavy breathing, no need to pause. I'm very pleased!

Pulsing away over here!

I logged hour 12 for 10/10 today. Talk about having a mental block! I kept finding ways to distract myself from starting and then after the stomach exercises I just lay on the floor with the dvd paused for long enough the player entered standby. But I did eventually finish! I'd like to get another session in tomorrow, so hopefully it's not such a mental fight.

Here I go

Okay so I'm five sessions in. Admittedly I haven't been doing the whole tape. I started with 10/10 and only did up until the first two leg exercises, adding the pelvic swoop and the other hip exercise. I want to do another five sessions at least and see where I am from there. I want to say I've lost 1.5 inches in my waist so far since starting. I should add, I'm an apple shape so the stomach is big for me. I'm really aiming to getting back into this pair of jeans from yesteryear. I'm probably 5-6 inches away in the stomach department. Le sigh...

I started doing the exercises with usually the TV or an audiobook playing in the background. Sometimes it helps take my mind off the struggle, lol, and how intensely I am actually working, although relatively relaxed.

Since I've upped the rate I've been doing Callanetics again, I'm noticing, not huge measurement differences, but indentations, and definition that had apparently let go this past year. My hips are doing very well, and although I have weaker days where I need to pause more and go slower, which I respect, there is definitely a noticeable difference.

I admit, since my hips dislocated, my measurements went up by about 2 inches. Definitely doable.

So far my calves, which only gained just over an inch, has lost half an inch. The rest of my body will follow, and some parts have already lost a quarter of an inch. I've also created a spreadsheet to fill in my measurements every 10 sessions.

I looked at the preview of the new videos, and, for me, I have to say, I'm going to stick with my tried and true Callan Series.

breezy, I was able to lose that much, so you can too, and most of it was from Callanetics. I would also like to suggest you listen to the video, if you have it. I have been hearing and seeing things I didn't these past 10 sessions, even after all these years!

If you're struggling, you're doing too much. Do what you can, and don't push. Before you know it, you will be doing what Callan's students are doing. But until then, remember, the more gentle you are with yourself, the better the results with Callanetics.

Congrats on making 5!

Jigglebuster, thanks for the encouragement! I'm not sure if it's because I SLOWED down when doing the exercises which may have allowed myself to go deeper or because it was my seventh time doing them; but i woke up S-O-R-E. I would have expected this after the first time. I think it may have been because I took your advice. I think I was going faster to get it over with but when I slowed down, concentrating on form over reps, I not only enjoyed it more but I think it was more effective. Anyhoo, I'm glad to hear of your success in the calf area! Pulse on!

I did look up the Evo and a few of the new tapes, like the Callanetics Extreme and Pure Callanetics but I think I'm sticking with the classic for now. I really like Callan.

Bobby0600 I want to encourage you to stick with it! I lay on the floor sometimes and take a pause between the ab exercises and take a breather, so I know what you mean- lol. Anyway, I hope you're pulsing on!

m_breezy, yes, the higher quality moves work much better than higher quantity. Good for you~!

I Have to meet someone this morning so didn't have as much time. I did half of everything, except the stretches - those went full time. And I feel much better than if I simply said "not today".

How did everyone do this month? I made my goal, and am looking forward to next month!

Ouida!!! You live!!!

They're tiny little things, like not just turning my thumbs in on the arms exercise, but turning my elbows. Once I did that, it changed how well I could hold my arms up.

And on the first leg stretch up on the bar (as you know I struggle with my flexibility), where she mentions straightening your supporting leg, I saw how the femur was moved lower when she straightened her leg, it wasn't just at the knee. This subtle change helped me bend further and deeper.

The way her hands are clasped overhead with the pelvic scoop... I don't think I noticed was the same as the pelvic rotations. I think I've always held onto a finger like with the very first warm-up exercise, when reaching up.

Things like that. So, I think I might have heard everything now. Ha ha!

Anyone else hear anything new?

I'm live! Very interesting what you say.

Yeppers,

I [just] noticed on the pelvic scoop in Fall 2016 (after 2 to 3 years of doing Callanetics), that when you come back and sit on your haunches or ankles, that the arms go back again before you raise up again. I was watching Super Callanetics when I said to myself, "Aha!" In Callanetics 10/10, Callan tells you to start out as if you are diving into a pool. In Super Callanetics, the person pulls her arms back, almost behind her ears and over her head.THEN, she comes up completely on her knees. That one change makes those little pelvic scoops even more challenging for me. When I made that change, I went from doing 20, back down to being only able to do 10 at a time.

If you watch too, on Super, she is holding her hands the way I said I've been doing it. When I'm ready again, I'm going to have to play Super through again and really pay attention.

Okay, I've completed 18 out of the 40 classes I'm aiming for. Hmm, my clothes are looser. A work top I could barely get over my body now fits nicely. I'm concentrating on form, and not pushing myself too hard. For some reason I always have to push myself to the max, so I'm learning gentleness with myself and restraint. Callanetics is teaching me that's it's okay to be where I am, in the moment, and not push so hard. Anyhoo, generally my girth has gone down although I'm experiencing some kind of lower stomach pooch. My decollete, shoulders, breasts, and back seem to be pulling in but that pooch, it's different. I think I remember reading in one of the books that this sometimes happens but consistency is key to even out. It's challenging to me to take rest days. Haha, I enjoy it so much that I'd like to do it every day. I'm remembering that rest is important to heal. If I do it too many days in a row I start to feel run down. Anyway, I've started meditation as well which I'm enjoying immensely. All in all, I feel even more grounded than I usually am.

Hope all is well,
Maribele

So nice to see that you're all pulsing and learning new things and getting good results!

I'm now on my third month, doing a bit less than I'd like but generally managing 10/10 twice a week and feeling great. Confession: I also have done Super Callanetics a few times. I know it's not recommended to start it early on, but I learn a lot from watching the same moves with slightly different emphasis and instruction, and I love doing it! I rarely have time for SC, so I'm sticking mostly to 10/10 but it feels like a treat when I can set aside the hour plus.

Happy pulsing, everyone!

m_breezy, yep, it get's all pushed toward the centre then the centre shrinks, then it all starts over again with each layer. Enjoy!

Lina! Good for you on being able to do Super! Wow! But yeah, it's good to get those 10/10's down.

I'm doing well, keeping the pace I set for the month and am seeing the strength differences and,as I said before, more definition. The flexibility is coming back, but I have to be extra gentle with these hips and tailbone - they too are strengthening, but pushing could set me back.

So, all is good here!

Happy Pulsing!

Good Morning to all of you~

I am a long time lurker here on LCF. I actually discovered the site over 10 years ago doing an Internet search for Callanetics forums

I moved on to other things over the course of the years but recently I've come to a place where hard core strength and circuit training, which seem to be what is most popular these days, are too jarring for my body. I've been looking for something new for a few months and then it dawned on me, duh! Callanetics!

This is a bit of a fly by message and intro. I'm popping in to see if you all are planning a January 2017 Callanetics thread. Are you?

Kisha~

Hey there Kisha! Welcome!

I'm glad you came out of lurking!

Since the beginning of this thread, we've just been posting our goals here, so post away!

"I've been looking for something new for a few months and then it dawned on me, duh! Callanetics! "

Yep.... Ha ha!

I would like to do 4 hours per week, so about 16 hours of Callanetics for the month of January.

Does anyone else have a goal for the month?

Happy New Year!!!

Just joined so that I could post. I have done 12 hours of 10/10 and just received the new countdown video. I did the stage one the first day and the stage two the second day. I really like it. It seems to go by fast. Have not yet tackled stage three. I feel like I am getting smaller. Definitely looking better in my clothes. Pear shape is moving to peach!!

Hi all! Have been using this board for weight loss support, but I've been doing Callanetics lately and wanted to check in here as well. I'm cycling thru the Quick Callanetics sessions. Not as hardcore (and maybe not as effective?) as 10/10, but I can actually find time to do them every morning. I've been pretty good about not missing any mornings (except Christmas and New Year's Day). I think if I reach the point where I can get thru all the reps without having to rest or quit, I'll move on to 10/10.

Has anyone gotten results with just 20 min a day? How long does it take?

Oh, and also, like QueenBacon, I wonder whether anyone has tried the new post-Callan Callanetics classes/DVDs? Has anyone signed up for a membership at Callanetics.com?

I have used the brand new DVD called callanetics countdown 30 days to a more beautiful body. I do like it. I think you need to also watch the 10/10 to hear Callan explain the exercises. Lacy Kondi does a good job but I think Callan 's style is quite different and helps with proper positioning. I like that the new one moves along quickly and time seems to go by more quickly.

Welcome Everyone!

Colaborer, thanks for sharing! Please continue to share your experience with Countdown 30.

EyesOnPrize, I've never done quick Callanetics, but I have done both, split 10/10 in two, and only half the pulses of 10/10. I'm absolutely certain you'll have results, just perhaps not as quickly as doing the full 10/10, whose length also builds a level of endurance. I can't say how long it will take, however, given that many have results with doing 10/10 two times a week, where many without the personal guidance of Callan begin noticing quite a change after 20-30 hours..., maybe keep track of the hours you're pulsing? By the way, it's good to take a day off here and there.

Callanetics countdown

I would love to join the check in I purchased the new Callanetics countdown and completed day 2 today

About me was skinny fat for years was a waitress and a hairdresser with great metabolism but never worked out.... ten years ago at 42 thyroid went out I gained 70 lbs over this ten years and have yo yo'd it off and on....

Ten years ago I started Callanetics had all the books and older tapes and DVD then went to bar method and pure barre and lotte berk and ballet beautiful and some Pilates but was never super consistent in anything just looking for the next miracle routine the older Callanetics workouts were my favorites as far as the exercises and I felt so good after doing them however I just could not get past them being so dated and I am 52 I never clicked with the evolutions either.. but when I saw the new dvds I got very excited this is what I needed so rather than have too many choices get overwhelmed about which one to do etc I want to just have this new one for now I really enjoy the scenery and instructor the advanced does not have open and close but looks amazing I need to rebuy book again that has super Callanetics routine I did so enjoy Callanetics books

I have been reading the whole string of thread and there was so one a few years back doing ballet beautiful and Callanetics I am curious if they are still doing that and if the results were same or better or worse than just using Callanetics?

I am so glad I did this and read the books so many years ago as my muscles knew what to do and pelvis knew how to tuck before I wanted to workout to look good. Ow with arthritis setting in and all the extra weight I want to workout to feel good I am going to start a low carb eating plan as well and need to read all those boards

Sorry for the long introduction but really I plan to do the 30 in 30 days and a bit of treadmill and control eating while researching eating plan best for me and I hope after 6 weeks of Callanetics to get in a maintenance of 3 per week and 3 days cardio weekly on treadmill and make it a life habit .. thanks for reading

Welcome Sherry!
I am new as well. I am also enjoying the 30/30 DVD. I still like to switch it up and do some of Callan's videos. Not sure what it is but I really get something out of her teaching. I am trying to do one every day. I do have a personal trainer once a week so I do not do callanetics on those days. I can always make time in a day to do one if I do not watch tv, etc. I have not taken measurements but am sure I am shrinking! My clothes look much better on me. I have been struggling with back pain for years and this is the only thing that helps. Although I still get the zingers. I do believe that strengthing the core through callanetics will eventually take the back pain away. Callan said she no longer experienced back pain in her books and videos. I am holding onto that! Standing up straighter and have so much more energy than with any other workout I've tried. Please let us know how your plan is working!

Well, fellow Callanauts... I read this whole thread a while back, and I kept seeing people reporting that their fat would redistribute itself in odd ways... and I kinda-sorta had a hard time believing it, because, really -- how is fat gonna just creep up from your hips and butt to your midsection? I mean, it doesn't have legs!

And now it's happening to me. Have been doing strict Stillman for a week. For those who don't know, it's the most brutal of all low-carb regimens: Nothing but lean protein. No fat at all. No carbs at all. Just dry chicken breasts, poached fish, hard boiled eggs, and whatever else you can find that's pretty much 100% protein. And I'm doing Callanetics nearly every day.

All of this is to get rid of the "muffin top" that's started creeping up on me since I started maintenance. Well, guess what? I'm probably about 6 hours total into Callan, and the muffin top just GREW on me! What's really weird is that I KNOW my stomach is flatter, but my midsection is noticeably thicker & flabbier! I normally have a pronounced hourglass shape and suddenly my torso looks like a tree trunk!

I'd be lying if I said I like this at all. In fact, I'll tell the truth and say I just hate it. I'm really not digging this effect.

Thank heavens I had read this thread. I will keep at it and assume, for the next few weeks, that this is That Crazy Callan Magic working its crazy way with me. I will assume that things will settle back in eventually and give me back my nice curves, and, in combination with Stillman, take away the muffin top.

Someone out there, please reassure me that you got thick and fat in the midsection too, and got a muffin top, and then it all went away! I'm staying the course for now because Callanetics makes me feel so good and is having lots of other good effects, but I was proud of my curves and I don't want to be a flabby tree trunk!
