Body Cramps

I have been back on LCHF for a week or so. For the past two days I've been getting some cramps/muscle spasms in areas like my lower back or the rib area. Haven't had any leg cramps tho.

Does anyone know what supplement should I try to add in to help ease these?

And I'm drinking between 128 - 160 oz of water per day...so, I don't think it can be dehydration.

So sorry I know that they can really hurt!
Magnesium oil and potassium pills have helped me.
Also make sure you are getting enough salt.

I never had this problem but it comes up fairly often on these boards.
Like Annabel Lee suggests, electrolytes seem to get depleted on LC so replacing them is often the remedy...Salt, if I remember correctly is also a help.
Hoping you feel better soon.
I have always drunk alot of green tea. specifically Arizona diet green tea w/ ginseng.
I wonder if that didn't help me with my electrolytes ? Just a thought.

I find that when I'm lowering carbs (again) I need to be very careful to drink enough water and to take magnesium supplements before I go to bed. Otherwise I end up arched in a painful bow of cramping around 4 am while my leg burns and buckles. It's happened a couple times when I've re-started low-carbing, or lowered my carb levels quickly. So now I make sure to cover my bases in induction.

Thanks everyone!

I took some Magnesium this morning. Still had a little bit of lower back/side area cramping, but I got to drinking my water and haven't had anymore. I will pick up some potassium when I got the store.

Last time I did low carb, I would get leg cramps but never any cramps in other parts of my body. I'm trying to tell myself it's the fat coming apart!

WOE: Atkins? TBD, LOL

Dr. Atkins recommends drinking a couple cups of broth or boullion every day during induction to fight cramps. This provides water and sodium as wells as other trace minerals, and works great for many people with cramps.

I suggest a small pinch of sea salt in every glass of water you drink, works like a charm!

Yep. Salt. LC is not a low-sodium way of eating.

You can slug a little pickle juice in a pinch or a cup of broth to provide quick relief.

Supplement with potassium and magnesium.

Google 'jimmy moore bowden vitamins' for an excellent podcast on LC supplements.

Google 'jimmy moore robbins magnesium' for an excellent podcast about the wonders of magnesium.

Second the salt & magnesium suggestions. I LOVE chicken bouillon (I use Wyler's) with 3 T HWC when I am getting back into induction. Tastes like a simple cream of chicken soup. Mmmm..

Also, I find that my back and kidneys start to hurt if I am FORCING myself to drink water even when I'm not thirsty. So I don't do that anymore I only drink water when I am thirsty, and don't worry about downing x amount of oz of water a day. I trust my body when it comes to water intake. Now, frozen yogurt cravings? THOSE are a different story. Fight my body tooth and nail against those.
