i did a ketone strip and it is dark purple.
So I think that means burning fat? and is a good thing?
Now I'm getting into this.

I don't bring as much to the table as some here, but I do happen to know something about the dipsticks, and I'm sitting here with all that not much to do at the moment.

1) Yes. You are burning fat.
2) The Keto strips are valuable, but not too much.
3) They decrease in usefulness over time. I still use one now and then.
4) All you really need to see is SOME color. More is not necessarily better.

Fasting will produce ketone bodies regardless of what the Ketostix say. And the strips only register 1 (one) of the ketone bodies of which there are several. You are in deep ketosis while fasting. After your glucose stores are depleted, there is no other fuel available...at least according to our current, limited understanding of The Metabolic Miracle.

Finally, keep using the sticks. It's FUN! Just know that purple is purple is purple for our purposes. More purple probably just equals your level of dehydration more that the amount of ketone bodies in your body.

Disclaimer: I read all that crap somewhere. I am not a doctor or a researcher. I don't even like pill pushers and some MD's are just that where nutrition is concerned. I know much more than a parrot, but still can't help feeling like that's what I'm doing. WE ARE SO ARROGANT, THINKING WE CAN EVER FULLY UNDERSTAND OUR MIRACULOUS BODIES. My opinions are just that, and are worth exactly what they cost you:....approximately 1 (one) fresh, steaming pile.

Stan...Thanks for the link to the Bar-B-Que sauce. I'm going to try that soon. How do you make garlic slaw? I make coleslaw a LOT and I LOVE cabbage fixed just about any way. ALSO....here's the easiest way to peel garlic when peeling a lot. Take 2 steel bowls (the same size). Put the separated cloves in bowl #1. Place bowl #2 upside down on bowl #1. Grasp the 2 bowls and shake vigorously. Most, if not all the skins will peel off. Magic!!

Terri...I agree. We REALLY haven't been good examples, have we? Let's DO it!!

Congrats to all the losers.

Fast is on! I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Easy to keep busy while kids are at school, the house needs a lot of cleaning and organizing after them being home all summer. I'm recording my water intake to make sure it's is good. Beef broth/chicken broth on stand by. I don't drink tea or coffee.

Seriously?!? I'm going to try that!

Cabbage, Mayo (I like a brand of Avocado oil based mayo pretty well. I shan't mention it here, wink wink) and Garlic. My version is from a restaurant in Plano, TX (Vincent's) and The Queen scolded me so bad this weekend that I ran away. She fixed it. Drained all my good stuff off and doubled the cabbage. Then just added her mayo.

In my humble opinion, my Vincent knock off was good enough for me, but oh yeah. I had too much garlic.

WAAAAAY too much....

http://burntmyfingers.com/2012/03/21...lic-cole-slaw/

The Queen's repair was to drain all my juice off, and add Mayo and just a touch of Stevia. I'd say try the burntmyfingers recipe first. It's cheap and if you don't like it, just make it over.

So.

Garlic Slaw is one of my favorite items at the BBQ Joint Buffet just down the street. I noticed Michael didn't try it last time, and I'm going to have to lean on him a little more Friday. May hafta break his knees, since I'm buyin'.

Que and Slaw is a match made in Heaven*. And Garlic Slaw is and even better option! It doesn't seem to go limp very fast, and who wants soggy cabbage?

*In the book of Stan 4:11 it doth say, "Yeah verily I saith unto you, Slaw. Bring me more Slaw." .......errrr something like that.

9/05/2017.. 205.0
9/06/2017.. 206.1 I'm fine with that little bounce, even though Michael's ahead now.

We had a family gathering at my son's in Okiehoma for supper. We had SUCH a blast watching our 2 year old grandson on the trampoline, jumping, laughing, and teasing with his Dad. Such GOOD TIMES.

AND OH HOW HE LOVES HIS DADDY!

Uncle Beep Beep decided to crawl under the trampoline to cause pop-up "earthquakes" from the mysterious depths below. We laughed until I thought somebody might cough up a tonsil. I don't deserve to have that much fun.

Besides us and the aforementioned Uncle Beep Beep, my wife's sister was also there from Chattanooga. (Her husband stayed home, for work.)

My son has become a Bona Fide Pitmaster. So the smoked roast was terrific. And my brother-in-law brought a killer green bean dish which I could also have, but I had to skip the hostess's tater casserole (except the one bite that blew my All KETO, All The Time, but 4 hours only Mantra....for just one day.) I skipped the cheesecake and garlic bread. I'm okay with all that and kept to my 20/4 Intermittent Fasting protocol, butt I'm sure I ate WAY too much.

And FAR too late....

I planned around the meal, so that mitigated the damage to some degree. And I still feel like The Victor, despite the slight deviation.

All God's Chilluns gots t' have a party now and then, I reckon. They make you believe...even if for a fleeting moment....that all is right with the world.

I wish everyone could have it so good...sittin' around the smoker in the cool of the evening, watching the antics of precious Little Ones, horses in the corral... laughing, loving...and sharing the fat of the land. Not another soul for miles.....

These are the best of times.....

I'm off and runnin'.

Stan, you speak the truth with "All God's Chilluns gots t' have a party now and then, I reckon". . My problem is too many parties back to back! That's my fault. it's always easy to recover from a party. But if you party AGAIN and AGAIN. . .THAT'S my problem.

I'll get it. SOMEday I'll get below 220. In the meantime, I enjoy coming here and posting my success and failure. And being inspired by others.

I did get through yesterday with NO CHEATS and NO SWEETS. And only ONE cup of "doctored" coffee (a la bloodhound). THAT's a huge win!!

Happy hump day all!

Stan...Your supper gathering sounds like so much fun. You are a blessed man. Thanks for the coleslaw recipe. I'll have to try that sometime. Here's how I make mine. It's more on the KFC kind....but better.

Coleslaw Dressing

1/4 cup water
1/4 cup Hellman’s Mayo
3/4 cup Daisy Sour Cream
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp Celery Seed (crushed in palm of hand)
1 Tbsp Red Wine Vinegar (or Garlic Red Wine Vinegar)
2 Tbsp Heavy Whipping Cream
1 pkt. Splenda

Mix all together. Pour over a 16 oz. bag of shredded coleslaw mix.
Mix well and let sit for a couple of hours or over night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Congrats to all the losers.....hugs for anyone who needs one. Gotta run....see ya!!
Still outside Onderland looking in I didn't even eat yesterday. Poor me. I'm wondering whether to fast again or not. I know I have plenty of fat stores, so it won't kill me. I've thought of going on that reality show, Naked And Afraid, and just lazing around not even trying to find food for 3 weeks. I'm pretty sure I'd be fine and it would be a lot easier than hunting for food in some jungle for 3 weeks. I would look for water, obvi. Anyway, I wasn't famished yesterday. I had the coffee and some broth.
Thanks for posting that yummy coleslaw dressing recipe, Judy. Maybe that will be what I end up breaking my fast with.
Have a good day, all.
Bloodhound, just keep a hammerin' at it. You're going to blow right past that number one of these days! I just know it....
Judy your slaw sounds terrific!
I didn't discover I love coleslaw at a Church Dinner like most of my people.
I discovered it at KFC! So you're speaking my language.
I did however...discover how blessed a man I am at Church, JUST EXACTLY like most of my people. Its all about perspective.
Hi, Every one.
Good job for all that are back on loseing . Or even holding.
At times we just have to say enough is it and start working at it. We all know how to diet.{I think we keep going back to old ways .We have to enjoy life and that means foods and sweets.We just have to know what we can get away with.and we all have those gains and we know we will.Just get back and hit hard.
I bet we all make this a good month,
Have a loseing month girs,Stan can not always be the winer.ha
Day 2 of fast and all is good. One of my twin girls is not happy about going to school already and it's only the second day. I'm annoyed for them the teacher they were supposed to have is off on maternity all year so they got a substitute for the year. She seems very nice but has a thick Jamaican accent and they are in French immersion and only in grade 1 so I'm a little worried they might have a hard time understanding her. According to my older daughter the teacher got mad at her class when they would ask her to repeat things because they didn't understand. That being said she was in gr. 4 at the time and the class was being a little unruly in general. Fingers crossed it'll turn out okay. I don't want to have them falling behind because of this. Gr. 1 is so important to get their reading levels up to snuff and in two languages. Mon dieu!
Off to have some broth before a quick tidy up and fetching the kids. My days are flying by, makes the idea of fasting long term feasible. We'll see.
Great day 2 of fasting 2.5 lbs is sure a good start.
On the broth>did you make or what kind did you buy?
After tomorrow day 4> I think Next Monday I will do broth and try for 6 days.
But I wonder if that has still low cals or O?
According to my older daughter the teacher got mad at her class when they would ask her to repeat things because they didn't understand. That being said she was in gr. 4 at the time and the class was being a little unruly in general. Fingers crossed it'll turn out okay. I don't want to have them falling behind because of this. Gr. 1 is so important to get their reading levels up to snuff and in two languages. Mon dieu!
Charlotte...That is too bad. IMHO there are 2 major careers that should require a person speak GOOD English. Teachers (especially in the lower grades) and Doctors. It is possible to come to this country not ever having spoken English and learn to speak it without a heavy accent. It's almost impossible to attain that level though when people speak their "native" language at home and only speak English outside of their home when they must. My Dad came here from Germany when he was 17 and the second thing he did was learn to speak English. The first thing he did was work on his cousin's farm (they were his sponsor). He didn't have an accent so I know it can be done. It should be a requirement for both teachers and doctors.
Judy, I couldn't agree more about speaking English. My sister-in-law moved to France to marry a Frenchman. She started learning French right away. When she applied for dual citizenship a few years back, she tested at the level just down from a native speaker. I get so irritated when I run into people who have lived here for DECADES and not bothered to learn the language. And I'm a moderate!
WEll WELL WELL I have fallen off the wagon completely. There are a multitude of reasons I could blame it on. Pretty good ones, too!
But the sad truth is I made bad choices. Oh, I was tired. Waaah! Oh, I was hungry. Waah! Oh, work is stressful, Waaah!
Two days off plan.
Done with that. What the heck, everyone else is fasting, so I'm gonna toss my hat in the ring too.
I can pick up the new home gym tomorrow, prolly try and put it together over the weekend.
Haven't been able to ride the bike this week, next week should have two or three days I can ride.
RE-dedicating. Not gonna post my weight for a couple days but I will keep ranting.
Cheers losers!
9-7 will be my 4 day.
I'm having back pain all day.
i Looked up and it said's that while fasting May increase due to Toxins in lower intestine.
Does that mean that 'I'm getting rid of Toxins? I also detox in sauna.
But I will make it 4 days.
Ketones are dark purple.
As counter-intuitive as it seems, I wonder if I'm not eating enough. I haven't really been hungry. I will try to get the fat up the next few days and see if that reassures my body that we aren't starving....
Thursday peeps! Have a good one!
Edited to add- I must be the odd one out, I was accidentally close to fasting the last week, ate approx once per day, and haven't progressed at all. Good luck to all you fasters !!!!
LetItGo, I feel your pain! I must admit, your post was pretty entertaining though... Have you tried INTERMITTENT Fasting? A Full-On water only fast may be counterproductive if your head isn't REALLY in the game.
I do them. I like them. And I recommend them.
A real, bonafide fast helps me get my eating under control. Just be aware, there are consequences. Post fast BOUNCE, feeling deprived, dehydration, poor break fast etc. Cramps can cause misery.
BUT...Intermittent Fasting, say....18/6 or even a bit longer feeding window probably works for most everybody who doesn't have some condition. KETO plus I.F. 20/4 has been so good for me I can't tell you! But you MUST work your plan. Don't cheat, splurge, take a day off, etc....or you'll pay for it.
For weeks now (months?) I've been focused on 100% compliance to my plan, every day. Cheating is just not worth it. I made a pledge, and I went on the record. I WILL NOT FAIL.
I MUST NOT FAIL.....
Gotta go now. I can check back later....
