cholesterol ?

My cholesterol was 220 total 4 years ago. My doctor talked me into taking statins, because I am diabetic,. He change prescription awhile back, caused really high AST/ALT. I have been off statins for a couple of months and liver enzymes are fine. My cholesterol is 266, hdl 80 ldl 166, triglesrits 80.

I know dr will try to put me on another drug. I'm just trying to weigh the risks.

Would really like to know other LC numbers, with or without meds

One, your HDL level is really good. Most people struggle to get it above the 40 (men) or 50 (women) they want us to have.

Two, your triglycerides are optimal. Anything less than 100 is wonderful.

So you have high LDL, which pushes your total higher, too. However, chances are pretty good that if you've been low-carbing, your LDL is Pattern A (the "light, fluffy" LDL) vs Pattern B (the small, sticky LDL that can damage arteries).

The VAP test is a fairly recent test that can differentiate between the types of LDL. If you have a lot of Pattern B LDL, you might be justified in taking a medication. However, if you have mostly Pattern A LDL it may not be worth it (and may not do any good).

Personally, if my lipid profile came back like yours, and my doc suggested medicine to bring down the LDL and total numbers, I'd insist on a VAP test first. If, and only if, it came back with a high level of Pattern B LDL, would I agree to the medication. And if she wasn't willing to approve the test, then I would not be willing to take the medication.

I agree. And even if it came back type B, I would still think twice about meds.
