There appears to be an Aldi in your area... they sell cream cheese here for 79-cents. If you don't shop there, you may want to give it a try.

I will check at Aldi's. I admit I rarely shop there and have not checked on their price of cream cheese.

I believe that a good portion of the carbs in yogurt are used up during the fermentation process, so I don't consider yogurt to be quite so bad.

Sometimes I'm torn: Do I want the carbs or the calories???

I have even made a soft cheese from regular milk (NOT ultra-pasteurized, which doesn't work) and either yogurt or buttermilk as the coagulant. Well-drained, salted, and spun in the food processor with a bit of cream or half and half, this yields a very nice tasting soft cheese. But it only keeps for a few days and is not something you'd do every time you need a bar or half a bar of cream cheese.

Thanks, ladies.
