My insurance did pay towards my arms and LBL. If you get rashes or can document that the skin "interferes with your every day life" and the doc will write a note saying so, the insurance may cover it. My skin was extreme. Most people can't get their arms covered. But I got rashes and the skin hung on either side when I lifted my arm. My panni hung to my upper thighs. You also have to maintain your weight loss for 6 mos. At least these were guidelines for my insurance. The statement in quotes above is important, it's like the key phrase they look for, if I remember it correctly

I also had a prescription antifungal / antibacterial powder which helped with the documentation that the issue was ongoing. I also had ulceration of the skin under my panni. The doc lifted my skin to look and my skin actually tore

Don't get me wrong I was appreciative the insurance covered SOMETHING, but I chose a doctor for his aesthetic work, and he was out of network, so I still had to pay a car payment's worth on a loan every month for quite a long time, and drained my meager (at the time) savings... but it is all paid off now and savings built up etc and my tummy is still flat and things are just perkier all around my arms are bigger than they were after surgery... stupid genetics.... if I gain it goes to my arms but could be much, much, much worse... I could still be almost 400lb, or I could have all that excess skin still causing me rashes. Not that I have maintained perfectly by any means, I am heavier than I should be, BUT I can't imagine if I didn't have all the skin removed, how much harder it would be to keep the motivation not to let it get out of control.... KWIM?

Thank you Mary! I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience on here. I did watch your videos about this years ago and I just now remember, now that you are saying it (I never got a chance to tell you how adorable you are, btw). Your skin tearing sounds incredibly painful, I'm so glad they covered at least some of the work. I think if I had been much younger when I got to goal weight my perspective would be very different. But at nearly 50 it just feels incredibly vain and financially irresponsible. IDK. Maybe I'll feel differently when I finally get down to goal weight. I think what I would really REALLY love is to get this pocket of loose skin at the top of my thighs removed. It gets in the way of EVERYTHING. I can't wear a dress without spanx to hold that skin tight so I don't get a rash. That is the only thing so far I can say DEFINITELY interferes with everyday life!

I haven't been brave enough to try spanx.. have no idea where to get them, much less what size. Tried some leggings on in walmart at christmas and got so horrified, I took them off, didn't bother with the other pairs, put them back and left the store.
I don't think surgery for skin removal is vanity if the skin has rashes/infections and gets in the way of being comfortable and doing things. You could always go for a consult with a plastic surgeon and see what they say... I plan to.

Hi ladies (and any lurking gents) ... hope you all had a great weekend. Not much to report here other than that despite a protein bar and strawberries I ate twice on Saturday, I stayed in ketosis. Although my carbs were higher than usual, it looks like they were still low enough to be in a lite state of keto. Sunday (yesterday) I got back to basics.... same for today. I started my cycle on Sunday so I guess that is why on Friday and Saturday I was wanting to eat more, although on Friday I stuck to my plan, I let myself have a little slack on Saturday.

Oh and I still tracked everything I ate on Saturday and was surprised the calories were
not higher than what they turned out to be (although a couple hundred higher than my usual). Thank God for my sleeve.

Hi Mary-
Way to go to stay on track! Tom sets off some fierce cravings! KUTGW! I am craving fruit..I had some strawberries and whipped cream but still want other fruits. An apple with some peanut butter is calling my name..I have resisted so far. I tried out some cashews the other night based on your post about trigger foods. I found that peanut butter is definitely a trigger but cashews not at all. I could have 6 or 7 and stop right away but one bit of peanut butter and the craving monster roars!

Hey Lucky-great to see you!

Joy and Cynthia-how are things going?

That darn peanut butter... you know, almond butter does NOT do that to me... but then again... I don't particularly care for almond butter (too grainy, not a fan of the taste). I wonder if I would also feel the same if I made some macademia or pecan butter

sunbutter (sunflower) has too much sugar I think and that makes me want to eat more ... I love the taste, too. But sunflower seeds themselves I can take or leave... vs peanuts... I get cravings just like with cashews. I bet if I made my own sunbutter with erythitol instead of sugar I would have a different response?

Hi Mary-
Good ideas and insights about the different kinds of nutbutters. Sorry about the emojie by your name in the earlier. I'm not sure what happened there I meant to insert that by the fierce cravings comment.
They used to carry honey roasted peanut butter at a health food store nearby...it was super sweet and set off all kinds of cravings. I never realized what a trigger peanut butter was until you mentioned it and I tried some to see what happened. I am just going to have to save it for special events/occassions and limit myself to one of those individual little .75 ounce servings they sell at work.

Hope everyone has a great day! My plan is that I'm going to the gym to use the treadmill again.

If you ever watched Jack Lalane workout his face and neck, it's basically that. But it's also this: http://home.bt.com/lifestyle/health/...11363860646339

I'm holding steady at 174-175, bouncing between the two. I haven't changed anything except that I finally got some Pyure so I tried a couple of almond flour recipes in my keto book and my boyfriend loves to cook and has been making my keto dinners out of my cookbooks that have a lot more cheese than I would normally eat. But, 175 is my normal weight. I've spent the better part of the past decade at 175 so I really just think my body has trouble getting below that, but it will. Eventually.
I have been working out really hard and maybe that has something to do with it to. I read on a keto social group about how vigorous workouts can create water retention.
Saturday I did 90 minutes of Speedo WTRx and Sunday I did 90 mins of PWR Spin class. My bike said that I burned over 1000 calories based on my watts and RPM.
I looked back over my food app and saw that I haven't been eating more than 600-700 calories per day over the last week and although Dr Berg says your body will begin using it's own fat, I don't know that I'm fat adapted yet? I'm not really sure I understand the concept of "starvation mode" when my bariatric surgeon said my calorie goals were 500 cals per day or less. If eating that little caused starvation mode, bariatric patients would not lose massive amounts of weight, right? Am I missing something?

Starvation mode is controversial... I have seen a lot of arguments against it for overweight/obese people (as in, it is nothing to be concerned with, according to that camp). My surgeon's guidelines were 600-800 calories the first 6 mos or year or so. I currently get somewhere between 1000-1250

I am definitely hitting the 600-800 range, so if it works after surgery it should still work?

I feel like I am finally prepared to use this pouch as my surgery intended, instead of sabotaging it and eating a bunch of crap that makes weight loss impossible.

I don't feel like I am depriving or starving myself, I am just genuinely satisfied with much less when the majority of my food intake comes from fat. I'm trusting Dr. Berg that my body will become fat adapted and I will begin using my own fat storage for fuel, I just think it's going to take time.

This is my theory at least. I guess I will see how this plays out in real life over the course of the next 6months?

hi ladies Well I finally weighed today, and over last month I lost 5 lbs, I was hoping it was at least 8 lbs but,if you think about it a little more than a lb a week isn't that bad . I haven't done anything physical for 2 mos. I should start PT after March 1st.. I 'll try doing water aerobics to start slow. So I am hoping to lose the rest of my weight by July 4th . .

Cynthia its great that your boyfriend helps out with cooking keto for you . It's nice that he's being a support that's not always the case in many relationships.

Just got back from my injection. They said that it will take 3 to 5 days to get some relief. I hope after that I can start doing more. I want to try and start going to the gym so my weight loss should pick up I've been doing the the 18 hour fast and then eating in the 8-hour window and it seems to be working out better for me I calculated my BMI and I am no longer obese. Woohoo at least I'm not obese anymore. Never thought that I would be happy about being labeled overweight haha

Mary thanks for the encouragement, before I would be upset with such a slow rate of losing but in my mind I just have to keep plugging along and know that sooner or later it has to come off if I do the right things from my body.

Depending how much effort you are putting in, 1-2lb is very reasonable. Also that is what almost all docs recommend (unless you are super morbidly obese and just had WLS)....

Well I thought 8 to ten lbs were averages I was hoping for at least 7 but ,I should be grateful for any loss since ,as I stated
I didn't do much but an occasional walk around shopping at the grocery store.

Good morning peeps! Well I'm up early but I didn't go to sleep till 5 this morning. And a phone call woke me up from the back Center to ask me how I was feeling after the injection. I told her I felt pretty much the same way I was told that it would be 3 to 5 days before I feel relief. So I can't go back to sleep and I have a bunch of housework to do so I'm sitting and having a cup of coffee hopefully that will get me going. I hope everyone has a wonderful day and I will check back later.

Ugh Joyful I hope you at least get some rest tonight to catch up! And hope they are right about the 3-5 days.

I am having a rough spot at work but trying to not get too stressed (I've let it have an effect on my health before) and hanging in there.

Hi-
Cynthia-I have no idea about starvation mode. I think eventually your body has to let go of some weight. Just keep doing your best. How nice and supportive of your boyfriend to cook keto meals for you from the cookbook! How awesome!

Joy-WOOHOO)! Way to go!! 5 pounds is great! Keep up the great work! I hope you get some relief from your shot soon. Pain is tough on the body-as is a lack of sleep. I hope things feel better very soon and you get some rest.

Mary-I am sorry you are having a rough time at work. Hang in there!

I walked 3 miles on the treadmill on Tuesday and the balls of my feet hurt afterwards and yesterday too. I went to a work-related seminar yesterday and then had dinner with my parents (they were so sweet to include me so I wasn't alone). I took it easy this morning and was thrilled to see a new number on the scale-I am down to 275.7. I'm within 14 pounds of being the lowest I'll have weighed in 20 years. I hope to get there soon.

TGIF! PEEPS! I worked so hard yesterday that I lost 2 pounds. I hope it sticks but, I'll take it for today yippee .My osteoarthritis in my ankle just fired up and it made my feet swollen especially my left one ouch! I went to bed with an ice pack on it and it went down some but ,it's still a little swollen and it hurts. It's tough getting old girls. I don't recommend it at all LOL. I really am going to try to make it to the gym and get in the pool this week so exercising hopefully my weight will come off at a quicker pace I only have 25 more pounds to go to go to till I get rid of all of the regain. My personal goal is to get to 115 so that would be 7 more after that then I will be done.

So exciting! You can do it! Having been 355+ before, 14 lb seems like so little! LOL but on the other hand, I want to lose about 25 and it's like I have to remind myself even if I lose .8lb when the stupid tracking app says with my exercise and calorie count I should have lost 3.8 that .8 out of 25 is a bigger deal than if I had needed to lose 200lb! KWIM?
