Julie--I'm so sorry to hear that! I really hope your dad gets better. In regards to the OMAD, how long did you go? I know for me it took about 3 days before I got used to it and just stayed either water or green tea just to get my mouth something to do besides chewing until it was time to eat. I agree that weighing daily/weekly is all up to personal preferences and should do what works best for you. You've got this!

Good morning ladies! Small drop on the scale today but hoping maybe for more tomorrow. I did the bike yesterday and plan to do it again today after I put the baby down for a nap. I was really busy yesterday and stayed on plan but I think I had too many cheese sticks. I tend to grab them when I'm hungry or want a snack and I think I had more than I thought yesterday. I struggle with wanting to snack and/or eating out of boredom. Sometimes a cup of coffee or a diet coke will help but I'm trying to avoid soda more so I haven't had any this week.

I would love to be in the mid 140's by the end of May. Which I know is possible if I stick to plan and don't cheat. I think I'll try to go back and read some old posts of mine and maybe get some motivation from my losses. I wish there was a way I could keep those and not lose them when the site closes. I'm also hoping that getting more bike and/or walks in will help too.

Trismama - great losses this month and great job on the fast! I don't know if I could do it. I'd have to have something to keep me really busy or all I would do is think about is food and coffee with HWC, lol. I hope you get some great results from it!

Julie - Sorry to hear about your dad's health. I thought the 500 days had been working well for you, sorry to hear they weren't. I was considering doing something like that. I need to do something to shake things up and get things moving.

bellalinda: You are doing great! I love how you are working on small goals. I need to do that more because it does help keep you motivated. And active get togethers are so fun. I love just taking a walk with a friend and chatting. Now that the weather has turned, it is easier to do. I envy Casey being able to enjoy beautiful weather year round!!

Casey: You have such a great advantage in your location. I lived in the Bay Area for awhile and we also had mostly great weather there. I walked everywhere and my friend and I would regularly take hikes in the hills. I really miss that! We have great weather now, but once the heat of summer comes you better get out early or forget it! We do live in a small town so we will walk to dinner or a park in the evening as a family. My husband and I can also walk to work, so we only drive when it is raining. It isn't far, but every little bit helps!

nihold: Looks like you are due for a woosh! Sending that woosh fairy your way today.

Trismama: the pink salt is perfect for fasting! It is too funny, I have heard the opposite about fasting. What I read said that the first one to two days were the most difficult, then hunger really subsided and people were "euphoric". Seriously, euphoric was the word they used! I hope you are feeling euphoric today because you are rocking this fast. I am seriously inspired to try and find a time when I can do an extended fast. You rock!!

Julie: I am so sorry your dad's health is causing so much stress. I will be sending prayers your way!! Role reversal is so tough, isn't it? Our parents took care of us for so many years, it is difficult to see them lose that strength and vitality. Mine are not quite there yet, but I see it coming down the road. Hang in there!!
Do what you need for your sanity right now. There is no need to push the 500 calorie days or OMAD if it is making things more difficult. Enjoy your favorite low carb foods and if you decide to jump back into fasting more, then do it when life gives you a bit more breathing space. I absolutely find that there are certain times when I can focus and things like fasting are very doable. Other times (like right now!!) I don't feel like I can get anywhere with my eating. I am trying to not worry about what I can't do and focus on what I can. I hope that helps you also!!

Still avoiding the scale. Maybe on Saturday or Sunday. It depends on if I have a glass of wine, ha ha! But I am still feeling serioulsy bloated and blah right now from TOM. This month is a rough one, not sure why but I am going to try to just ride it out.

It looks like I can't get back past February of 2017. I was hoping to get back in and see my posts from spring of 2016. Oh well.

kt_mom: I also will eat out of boredom. Or because I feel the need to snack on something. I am really struggling with that this week. However, I will say that adding in the days of fasting (not this week, but previous weeks!) has helped me identify my behavior a little better. I now recognize that I am not eating because I am hungry, but because I want to chew! I can't say I can always resist the urge yet. I certainly have had too many snacks this week (hello nuts!!) but the rational part of my brain says "hey, you are not really hungry!" Of course right now, the hormonal part of my brain then says "shut up, you!!" and I grab a handful of nuts.
When I get my head screwed back on right, I really do want to try a longer fast like Trismama. I think that will help jump start me as well. I just can't seem to break out of the 140s. I know I should be losing slow right now, but it still frustrates me sometimes.

NCLady - I've started buying pistachios in the shell. I still only put a handful in the bowl and they take awhile to eat because I'm cracking them. Plus I eat less because I measure them in the shells. Its helping a little. I used to do mixed nuts but I would eat them so fast. I wish I could do a fast but I know I don't have the will power right now.

Good morning!

Still on plan and going strong! Today is my busy day of taking kids to speech therapy appointments and soft ball practice. At least I am able to not eat that much due to being in the car all day.

Has anyone started a journal and if so does it help you keep track of things like what you ate how you responded to it. I am thinking about it.

Trismama- You are doing so awesome! Keep it up!

Julie- I am so sorry about your dad. Hang in there! What is OMAD?

Caco- Great job! You are rockin it!

Kt mom- Any loss is a good loss. I know you can make it to the 140's you got this. I was looking into doing a journal on one of the new sites. Would that help you too by keeping all your thoughts in one place for motivation? I don't know just a thought. Trying to figure it out myself.

NClady- I hope a whoosh comes soon. I am currently pre-TOM and feeling yuck.

kt_mom: Yes, more work for a nut is a good idea! It is way too easy to just stick your hand in the bag and grab too many almonds!! And you definitely need to be in the right mindset for a fast. I have tried to do it when I am not fully committed and I never make it. But when I am committed, it really is not a difficult thing to do. And I have to say I feel awesome the next morning when I wake up.

nihold: I am with you except I am at the end of the all that TOM junk. Blah. Hate it. Keeping a journal is a good idea, but I would not be able to keep it up properly. I can see myself doing it for about a month and then getting lazy. But it would help to pinpoint trends.

pyroh: That will happen to me sometimes as well. It makes me yell at the scale. Usually something along the lines of "Why are you so MEAN??"

Well, I'm happy with the loss (of course I always want more) but I'm especially happy about getting myself to the gym regularly. Three days in a row I've gotten to the gym at 8:30, and even managed to do a good workout. I'm going to Zumba for the second day this week, and I'm hoping to get really connected with people so I keep going. I know it may slow the numbers on the scale for a while, but in the long run muscle will burn more calories, plus it feels good to be taking care of myself!!

I'm intrigued by all the talk of fasting. Back in college (MAAANY years ago) I did an extended fast, and I remember it was surprisingly easy. Easier than OMAD, because food just wasn't an option and my body adapted. I had plenty of energy and pretty good losses too. I can't imagine doing it now, because I know how much I eat for boredom and out of habit, but you've got me kicking around the idea. Best of luck with it!!

Still doing meat/egg/cheese, and getting in at least 50 oz of water a day. It has me hopeful for more losses to come.

Susan

NiHold: Have you tried the atkins app? I put in all my food, you can even scan a barcode on food if it's not in there. It keeps track of what I eat, carbs, fat, and protein for the day. there is also a spot in there to keep track of your weight....I'm liking this because i can look back at the graph and if i see a drop I'll see what I did that day and try to mimic it...vice versa, if i see a jump I can see what I did that day and try to eliminate it. It's pretty easy. As far as how you feel you could do that in the notes app and be able to look back at the what you ate and weight part on the Atkins App.

NCLady...I've seen the word WOSH used a few times. Is that a slang term for when people have a 2+ pound drop over night?

I'm having my salad for lunch. I wish it was a bowl of cereal. I think that's what bothers me the most about this WOE. Its like all or nothing. If I cheat with a bowl of cereal it would knock me out of ketosis and cost me days of losses. As opposed to other plans where it would suck for today but you might be able to get back on track tomorrow or just not eat anything else today or something. I realize this is supposed to be a lifestyle change. And I don't want to eat cereal every day or anything. Its just some days its calling to me.

Susan - great job on getting to the gym! I'm working on the same thing. I know it may slow my losses some but I figure the muscle I build (even if its just a little bit, I'm not working out real hard right now) will burn more calories and help me towards my goal.

or a big bagel with cream cheese. Yum. I bought bagels for the family at the store the other day and it doesn't usually bother me but we were watching Kevin can wait and he kept talking about his bagel and ugh.
Sorry, I'm probably not helping anyone with my cravings, lol.

HappyMom: One of my neighbors is a Zumba teacher and she loves it (obviously). It sounds like so much fun, especially as you get to know the people in your class. Then it is like exercising with your friends!!
I am kicking around the idea of an extended fast too. Trismama has me inspired!

CaCO3Girl: Yes, there is a language around here, isn't there? I don't use woosh for just two pounds plus (otherwise I would never get a woosh, ha ha!) but just for a nice drop, especially after someone has been stuck at one weight for awhile and then has a good drop. Sometimes I will say the woosh fairy came for a visit!

kt_mom: I don't have problems craving cereal, but bagels and cream cheese, yum!! Or croissants. Oh, how I love those croissants. And this is not an excuse to eat what you want, but I have found that a fast gets me back in ketosis faster than anything else. It takes about a day, but I burn through all my glycogen and get to attacking the fat again.

CaCO3Girl: I don't get enough water in most days. I need to do better with that because it does make a difference!

Going for a fasting day. Maybe it will help get rid of the TOM belly I am sporting right now. Yet another reason to just stay off the scale. If today goes as planned, I will get on tomorrow morning.
I hope everyone has a great day today!

Good morning! A small loss on the scale. Was hoping for a little more before the weekend but oh well. Today should be easy since we won't leave to drive up until DH gets off around 8. Tomorrow will be the harder day where I don't have as much control of my choices because we are staying at my sister-in-laws house. But I'm really hoping to do well. She text me the other day excited because she can drink wine with me again after being pregnant all winter. I was hoping she was still abstaining because of breast feeding but I guess not. If she wasn't having any then its easier for me avoid. My other sister-in-law is still pregnant so we may not get to meet her baby this weekend. We really thought she would go by now. I'm still hoping though. The busier we are the less food will be an issue and the less drinking will be an issue. I know if I could just get through this weekend I could get down under 155 before month end.

CaCO3Girl: water does really help, great job! I'm working on getting more water in. I'm shotting for 100oz a day but have been hitting closer to around almost 60 I guess.

NCLady - thanks I'll have to try a fast next time. But other than accidental ones where I'm just too busy and sort of forget to eat, I really struggle with them. I just think about food way too much, lol.

k_tmom- thanks for the encouragement! Yea, I'm the same way. I need to keep myself busy. My son doesn't have school today so I'm gone with him which is terrifying. While at work, it's easy for me to be a perfect angel. Shop to keep myself occupied, I'll be declutterting and deep cleaning my bedroom. Which to be honest, could take allday for this pack rat.

It will also give me time to get to my 30 before 30 list. Since I started pretty late as I've never heard of it before, I hav to write in achievable goals.

One of which is skydiving for my 30th birthday this summer. Since it'll be my first time I have to go tandem and have to be at least 200.

kt_mom: I hope that you have fun this weekend, even with the wine temptation. Can you maybe take a smaller than usual glass and just drink it really, really slowly? Then you are enjoying wine with your sister in law and hopefully not setting yourself back too much. But don't beat yourself up too much! Any gain you might see will be off before you know it because it is just water. It's not like you are eating cinnamon rolls like I did the other weekend!!
And if you ever decide to try a fast, you will know when you are ready to take the plunge. And always remember that it is not a succeed or fail kind of thing. You do as many hours as you can/want and then stop. It is a tool to be used at different times and for different jobs. Very different from trying to adopt a low carb lifestyle. Fasting is never suppose to be permanent!

Trismama: Those are awesome numbers you are posting! I know it is actually exciting to get on the scale every day and see what you get. How are you feeling? Do you feel like your hunger has diminished yet? I often get that adrenaline rush after I have been fasting about 24 hours. That isn't good when I am trying to go to sleep, but if I hit that point during the day, it is awesome. Then I actually get things done, like deep cleaning or laundry!
I have not heard of a 30 before 30 list. Can I make a 45 before 45 list? Skydiving sounds like fun, but honestly, I couldn't jump out of the plane. I think once I was out, I would love it, but I just. can't. jump.

I'm just feeling a bit hungry, but I'm more so mentally hungry. I still have to prepare my son his meals. A toasted bologna and cheese sandwich never looked so good.....and I HATE bologna.

I have a bit of a headache, but I know it's not fasting related. I went out with some girlfriends last night and was so proud that I only drunk my water! I didn't get back home til like 2 am and was awakened at 6:30 due to my excited kid over his first visit from the tooth fairy lol. It was a milestone for both me and him.

And I believe there should always be a list of accomplishments. After I turn 30, I'll be starting my 40 before 40 that will include traveling outside of North America.

nihold: That is a nice number for today! KUTGW

Trismama: Yes, I agree with the mental hunger. I am too used to eating because of the clock or boredom and when I cut it all out, my brain is like "why aren't you chewing??". I am sorry you had to get up so early, but it is fun to have that first tooth fairy visit. You will certainly sleep well tonight! And I have to give you props for sticking with water during your girls night out. That is awesome!!

Trismama: I can only imagine what that was like! But look at your progress! Wow! Do you feel like autophagy has set in? I have heard that some people start losing skin tags, but I guess autophagy is so gradual it may not be totally obvious.
I hope the deep cleaning went well yesterday with your son. I have pulled all our books out of the bookshelf and I am trying to sort them. It is time to donate the books that my kids have out grown!

I am back to weighing and I am glad that skipped the bloated days. There was no reason to see that increase when it just comes right back down. I am joining Trismama in a fast today. If I am feeling good, I may extend through tomorrow as well.
Enjoy your Saturday everyone!

I am so happy to see the 130s! I am fasting again today, so I ought to stay there for at least one more day. Then I know I will bump up again (totally normal), but just seeing a glimpse is very encouraging.

4.21.18-262.8 (Fasting)
4.22.18-259.8 (Fasting) --- I'm back in the 250's!!!!!

In addition to finally being back in the 250's, my waist in inches is finally back in the 30's!!!! I'm currently measuring 39.5 inches around my waist after being stuck in the mid 40's for over 5 years!! I could actually cry right now! I was considering stopping at 7 days fasting, which is tomorrow, but I think I may just continue. I don't feel terrible today. Yesterday was little rough due to boredom from being inside due the rain all day yesterday. Given that once the work week starts I won't have that boredom issue, I may just press on. I'll call my doc about a phone visit, otherwise, I'll set another appt to make sure he agrees.

Overall, I am ecstatic about my results so far! 10.2lbs in just 6 days is just mind blowing to me.

7 more pounds to to hit my ultimate goal for the month!

Trismama: Yes, I kept on fasting. This is day three. I will break it tomorrow because I am ready to eat again and I have a dinner with my best friend. I would like to do a seven day soon, but I think three is enough for me for now. I am definitely listening to my body better than I ever have before. And I am at the point where I am really not very hungry and feeling good. Last night I actually felt great.
I am so excited for your success on your fast so far! It is a mental battle more than anything else. And be ready for a bump up when you start to refeed; just the weight of the food in your GI tract will bump that number up. But still!!! Enjoy that new decade (I am enjoying mine!) and know that you have done some major autophagy.
Do you enjoy your food more after a fast? I totally do. Instead of eating mindlessly, I really savor my food. I think it helps me eat less, but also eat more intuitively. Eat when hungry and eat until you are full. That is difficult for me!
