Well onward to 2018!!! Who's on board ???

Glad I didn't stray over the holidays, I do have to wait on clearance from the Back surgeon before I can start PT. . I do know I am the smallest I've been since 2014. I am hopeful that
the rest will come off in the next few months. I got a few kitchen gadgets to try out too !! I got an air fryer and a wolf gang puck spiralizer. I will be experimenting a lot . Bon apetite'

I Hope every one is ready to make it happen this year

Make that 16 weeks in ketosis

I downloaded a nutrition tracker, and used a calculator to see how many calories I should be consuming to lose some weight... 1250- 1450 ... and that takes light activity into consideration

It's one of those days where I'm so happy with my surgery. Even all these years later I am full on less than 6 oz of food. I had 3oz ham, 85g green beans, and a little less than a tbsp mayo (I like to dip my green beans in mayo) and the whole plate totaled 5.8oz according to my new kitchen scale. I couldn't finish the last bite of ham. I'm full!

Hey Maryposa, oh so sorry , I didn't know you were going to start posting more here . I just randomly check but, will start checking every day.

I can't wait to see how your weigh in goes. Just remember you are not a number on a scale. How are you feeling on Keto ?? I went to the Dr for my post op appointment on my back surgery. The pain in my left leg he said was caused by the severed nerves and muscle that
H ad to be cut in order to put remove the 3 discs that needed to be replaced . I have inflamed nerve endings and I'm in extreme pain. I was hoping to at least be able to start walking on the treadmill .but, not so .At least my eating is on point.

JESSE HI , HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Oh no! Sorry to hear that you're in pain.

I'm feeling good. I went from keto alone to keto and calorie counting. I'm under 1250 cals per day and trying to hit 10k steps a day. I got to over 11k yesterday but today it was raining so I didn't even reach 9k

I'm in Vegas for the next 8 days. I'm thinking it'll be hard not to exceed calorie target but easy to make 10k steps

Checking in!

Hello all! Happy New Year to us - hope we all have a fabulous 2018. Been sick for a few weeks so now that I'm starting to feel better I am getting back on track. After weeks of soup, hot tea, and NyQuil I can eat some real food. Keeping it simple - hard boiled egg this morning with some coffee. Also have a protein shake at the ready - need to keep my protein up. Also making an effort to take my vitamins everyday like a good girl

Looking forward to seeing you guys online for inspiration, advice, and general chatting fun!

Well taking steroids just sucks , up 3lbs.My pain doesn't seem to have been helped much but, I am to the point of oh well just don't give me more prednisone. I think that I may have pinched a nerve in my back , geez.. Wish every one well and good success on their journey. Going to get my self ready to at least lose this extra 3lbs.

Hi,
I know I am late to the party but I have at least 100 pounds to lose (really more if we go by a healthy BMI). I was here on an off many years ago-have a gastric sleeve which probably saved me from regaining more than the 28 pounds that I did put back on. I was able to lose some weight (a little over 7 pounds) over the holidays and get down to 285.4. Mind if I join you all on the journey? Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Jesse, Lucky21 and Maryposa!

Joyful48, Yes, steroids are rough with the weight gain they bring but I hope they gave you some relief too even if it wasn't much-maybe some relief was better than none? *hugs* How are you now?

--Laura

I also meant to add that I had hand surgery last week and while I was off from work I joined a gym. When the Dr. takes my stitches out on the 23rd and gives me the all clear to grip things, I will hit the machines in the gym. In the meantime, I'm back on induction-and will be following induction for many months. I have someone who is already trying to discourage me, sabotage me and make me doubt myself. I am limiting my contact with that person and looking forward to proving him wrong -he told me I was wasting my time and money to join the gym.
Anyone have someone/something like that going on?

back Laura , you certainly can join us !!! It's been a little slow here so we welcome any one who wants accountability and encouragement . . I joined a gym about z2 yrs ago but ,since I have had back issues then the Back surgery i havent been so i cant wait till i can go back . Did I just say that ??? LOL. I'm short so I can't even empty my dishwasher or washing machine etc. Laura I would use his negativity as a motivation , when some one tells me I can't do something it pisses me off and I want to of course do it for myself but, then it's like I am going to show him!!! Oh and Excuse me , tell him if he can't be encouraging and supportive shut the hell up !!! I mad for you lol

Hey Maryposa how was your trip to Vegas?? Are you back into the swing of things ?
Jesse, and all others please give us updates .

Hello

I am back and ready to be accountable. I was just dx'd with positive h pylori again from my primary. Tomorrow I have an appt with my bariatric center so they can take the lead on this. I haven't been able to eat much. Hopefully, my pharmacy will get my Prevpak in stock today. Anyhoo...I would like to be a part of this group if that is okay.

Hi everyone, I have been in ketosis / Atkins level low carb for 18 and a half weeks now, and I have been on thyroid medicine for 3 months. Also, I have been walking to work and back and then built up to 10k (5 miles) a day walking for quite some time (5-6 mo?)... Finally, added calorie counting the past month or so and I feel I have lost weight but I am not getting on the scale until the doctor puts me on one! I don't want to weigh myself anymore... I just want to do what is right for my body and trust that I am getting healthier.

Maryposa-yes you are right about the scale, I call it the METAL DEVIL!! I don't get on it near as much as I used to. I find it so demotivating. I know I am doing the right things for my body so eventually it will come off . It's not a race but, I know we all want the weight off like yesterday. I applaud you for your determination, it's going to pay off. I'm sure you are feeling so much better now that your eating the right things. I am excited for you. I'm a going to start back at the gym Monday but, I will only be able to do the treadmill, I know that it is better than sitting on my rear end lol . Going to try and go at least 3 times a week to start.I am hoping that my feet doesn't go numb like it did before surgery. That's one of the things this surgery was suppose to correct. I'm crossing my fingers.

Waving to Lucky and Tulips try to post every day I look forward to every ones post since I don't have a life lol 😁

Interesting thoughts. Doing what's right for your body... it seems you are doing all that you can. I have to weigh frequently, because I will convince myself that I am indeed doing what's right for my body, but I start drifting. The scale gives me better feedback than my traitor brain. Different strategies to reach the same goal ~ health.

True. I don't count on instinct but on my step counter and food tracker, food scale, measuring cups and spoons... If I guesstimate I might think I'm doing better than I am

I am not saying I n don't jump on the scale but I don't do it daily lol I used to jump on that thing every day, and found out for me it wasn't helping me . I was on roller coaster emotionally, up down up down . I just had to dial it back for my own sanity.. To each his own cause we are all different but , we know what works best for us . As long as it works for you that is all that matters.,. I am glad that we can support each other and help each other to reach our common goal.

Hi!
Joyful thanks so much for being angry for/with me and I plan to use that negatively just like you said-enjoy proving him wrong and use the energy for the good!

Maryposa, I was posting my starting stats now but yes, I started around 355 back before I had the surgery. I weighed even more than that at my very highest before I even found this site and had managed to lose down to the 355. I just want to say thank you so much for being so helpful and supportive then and now.

I think measuring is a good idea. My doc even said to measure rather than focusing on the scale so much. I used to weight every day..now I try very hard NOT to because the fluctuations can be very upsetting.
I asked a friend to measure me and she said sure but she didn't show up so I'm hoping to get my mom to help out with that today before I get much further down the road. I know its not like 5 inches are going to disappear overnight (if only! lol) but I would like to know where I started from as a good reference point.
I use a website to track my weight, food log and will put my measurements in there.

I think doing what you know if healthy as far as food, exercise and generally taking care of yourself is a very good way to make this a lifestyle. I'm trying to do that too. I keep reminding myself this is a marathon, not a sprint and as long as I keep doing things, even little changes/steps, in the right direction then I'm making a better lifestyle and doing better healthwise. I think of a big bucket and a dripping faucet, it seems like it will take forever to fill the bucket but bit by bit, it does happen eventually! Be relentless with the goal.

I've been staying on track when I am out of the house but coming home I get the munchies bad. I boiled some eggs, have some cheese and pork rinds available but what do you do when you want something sweet?

Hope everyone is doing well. Stay warm & have a safe and healthy day!

Laura, not everyone agrees about sweeteners, but I use diet drinks throughout the day. In the morning I have SF/LC Chai Tea Latte and a protein shake, then I have those clear liter sized fruit flavored sparkling waters, and at night I will slowly sip diet rootbeer after letting a lot of the carbonation disappear.

I found that after I went down to Atkins '72 level low carb for a while my sweet tooth for something dessert like diminished.

That said, for thanksgiving I had Low Carb Pumpkin Cheesecake with home made sf whipped cream, and at Christmas I made low carb gingerbread cookies though they did not come out good lol and also I have purchased some sf jello to put home made whipped cream on when I haven't met my macros for the day. But I have been planning well enough that it doesn't happen often

I also use a lot of artificial sweeteners, especially Torani SF Syrups. I think faking sugar is pretty doable, it's fake fat that has not been perfected. I'm okay with that, because I fall in line with the Aitkins belief that dietary fat is not the enemy, it's sugar.
