cilantro! LOVE IT OR LOATHE IT?

swear BY it or swear AT it? up until a few years ago, I never heard of it. now every food and cooking show uses it. what are your experiences with it? I have, as yet, not knowingly tasted or smelled it. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

We love it in Indian and Mexican dishes!
Have also used it in an unusual and delicious summer cabbage salad.

I like it, but I wouldn't say love it. I like it when they chop up cilantro and onions very fine and put them on an authentic taco.

Not fond of eating dish soap since that is what it tastes like to me. Wish I could like it but can't

Loathe. I'm apparently among those who have the gene that makes cilantro unpalatable. Tastes like soapy grass to me.

DH and I love it. In fact I have some in my crisper drawer at the moment, some of which will be chopped and added to my coleslaw later on - I'll probably chop and freeze the rest.

Great in Thai, Mexican, Indian and other dishes.

My Mom hated it so when I cooked something like chile verde, I'd take a portion out for her before adding the cilantro to our part!

Love! I use it a lot in Vietnamese and Mexican dishes. Best way I've found to keep it fresh is to slant cut a bit off the stems, remove as many of the leaves that are down amongst the stems, stand the bunch up in a glass with a few inches of water, lightly cover with a clear plastic bag (like you use at the grocery store when you buy produce) and keep in the refrigerator. Mine will usually last 2 weeks without going limp.

LOATHE with a capital everything.

I'm another of the lucky soap tasters. (Funny story... first time DH and I ever ate at a Chipotle, I kept wondering why the rice tasted like soap. Figured maybe they hadn't rinsed out the pot well enough after they washed it. Kept asking DH if he thought it tasted soapy. Came to find out MUCH later that it was the cilantro in the rice.)

Everyone at work LOVES Chipotle. I tried three times, and I was finally like c'mon now. We even plan salsa around restaurants that do not use it so heavily. I CANNOT SAY LOATHE ENOUGH. It also gives me such indigestion. Congrats on those who can have it though!

Meh. I'm completely agnostic about it. It neither offends nor wows me.

No soap taste, but in my experience, it's a flavor that's way easy to overdo. Using it judiciously is the best course of action.

Went from being a loather to a lover of it. Would put it in salsas for hubby and never pulled out salsa before adding. I would eat sm. amts of salsa and gradually just really liked it. Of course I use it in Mexican cooking, also like using it in a Asian dipping sauce.

I think that is a good plan, and I have been trying to use it a little at a time. But so far, I have not had great success.

LOVE IT! I make fresh salsa in my mini Ninja, and use lots of cilantro. Also, I make home made jalapeno/cilantro salad dressing. I think cilantro adds a taste of freshness to my recipes.

Just curious. Those of you who think cilantro tastes soapy, do you have the same problem with coriander? (same plant...cilantro is the leaves, coriander is the seeds.) I don't use cilantro much, but use coriander in most of my Mexican recipes. My basic Mexican spice mix is a blend of cumin, coriander, and chili powder. Then I add to those three depending on what I am making.

Nope. I'm good with coriander (and wonder why that is, actually).

We had tostadas for dinner last night and tonight. I finely chopped up some sweet red onion and cilantro together to sprinkle on top.

I love cilantro and I use it a lot. I put it in fruit smoothies and fruit salads. I've also made cilantro pesto and used with chicken or fish, or pasta back in the day.
