Dawn, can I jump in here to say how much I admire your fabulous loss and hope to follow in your footsteps? I have 50 lbs to lose, I'm 48, and 5'10", so a tall girl like you.

Here in the wilds of Eastern Europe there are no medi weight loss clinics, so I'm following the rules on my own--500-700 calories of lean protein this first week, and adding in a cup or two of vegetables herein after.

Today was day 2. Day 1 was horrific, but reading all the wisdom and support here helped get me through.

I just love getting to work and logging and seeing so many posts! Its so encouraging to see everyone be so positive and helpful to each other!

My weigh in went well this morning Down 3.8. So 14.4 in two weeks! I will take it! I just love my counselor, she is amazing. Got onto me about the protein thing and said to not be scared of veggies. Talked about what I should eat tonight when we are going out to dinner with friends and family. I feel good about this week.. Nothing big going on to worry about making it harder. Really wanting to be down 20 by Oct. 11th, my anniversary.. So definitely going strong this week!

Week 1 is a challenge, its called the keto flu, this is because your body is switching the way to get its fuel, it takes a good week to feel better. Then your body is breaking down ketones for fuel and you will feel great, keep exercise to a minimum like walking and let your body adjust. You can do this on your own--there are many here, if you have questions, ask, one of us will know. thanks for your nice comment too! Good luck and keep us posted!

Isn't that the key! I usually have 3-4 cupcakes, why can't I just take 1 bite! or even just 1 cupcake like other people do. Good job on the carbs numbers, that is the key to this.

Day 3 and I've lost 3 lbs already. The headaches and frantic hunger feelings have mostly gone. I'm drinking a protein shake (made as a hot drink) at 11-12 in the morning as my first meal, just because it's fast and reliable. And I'm trying to finish eating by 7pm to keep my eating window shorter, because that has helped me lose in the past. I can see shortening it further as the hunger feelings wane. And finally I've cut my coffee down from 5 cups to 2...and brew it with half decaf beans. Does Medi Weightloss advise eliminating caffeine entirely?

Everyone here is so serious, determined and dedicated--destined for success!

I've always gone through waves of drinking soda. It helps when I do get a headache that's headed toward migraine status, but is try not to drink them regularly. Something that may help? Drink all of your goal water, THEN you can have caffeine? But if you're used to starting with coffee, I would stick with it, just not as much ;-)

I also agree that dawn is an inspiration! Very smart and knows her stuff! As of yesterday I've lost nearly 30lbs with medi, 42 on my own :-) I'm so proud of myself and people are finally starting to say something. I love it!

Courtney- that's awesome! Find some sports you can do regularly and I'm sure you'll be perfectly toned in no time. You look toned already to me!

i try to limit mine. Prior to Medi I would have atleast one diet coke or coke zero and a cup or two of coffee every day. I did have a coke zero on Sunday when we were at Home Depot for the 3rd time in 4 hours (Water Heater Issues). But I didnt want another one after or the next couple days, so I know its not a trigger. I still have my small cup of coffee in the mornings with splenda. I went out to eat last night with family and friends, it was nice! Mind you my friend and her mom, who both came have had gastric and lap band. My friend did ask why after all the money I'm spending on this, why didn't I just get a surgery. I do not look down upon anyone doing anything to better their life, so I said, I just dont think its for me. I know what I need to do and I'm going to do it. We went to Cheddars and I ordered lemon pepper baked white fish and steamed broccoli. And I drank my lemon water and I was completely comfortable! It didnt bother me that the others ate chips and queso and drank a few Bud Lights and mixed drinks either. Hope everyone has a great day!

I used to drink at least 3 cups of strong black coffee daily. Now I have 1-2, I think the appetite suppressant really helps me to have some energy without coffee. I only ever drink soda with alcohol, so that wasn't something I had to cut out.

Thank you all so much for commenting on my caffeine dilemma! Tomorrow I will try to go to one cup, and then after that switch to decaf. I made some chicken stock today and found that heavily salted broth is a nice afternoon pick-me-up when I'd usually have coffee.

Colbs, you must have felt so good eating cleanly and on-plan at that restaurant.

Nykhoel, thanks for the insight on water. Probably I could get in some more. And what a great loss you've had too. And Rachel, nearly 12 lbs. in 2 weeks? I'd be shouting it from the rooftops.

Off to bed soon, and not even hungry. Kept it to just over 600 cals today, too. This is a miracle, I tell you.

It seems everyone is doing great. We are all losing and not gaining which is great. We are making wonderful lifestyle changes. I like to think when it comes to eating that We eat to live not live to eat Before I eat or drink anything I think to myself do I need this now. I'm I going to die if I don't eat this. We live we survive and we go on living being healthy. I am very happy for everyone even myself. We are working so hard. I am so excited I got my confidence and energy back up. I'm really "feeling myself" right now. Keep up the good work everyone. We are here to encourage one another. This forum is keeping me on my game. I love giving good news and hearing good news. I want everyone to get to their goal no matter how long it takes, as long as we get there.

OH YEA I FORGOT TO MENTION I LOST 5.2LBS THIS WEEK. so motivated to keep going!

I have been feeling more stressed, just found out my dear friends husband has been given 6 months to live, pancreatic cancer, my coworker is in the same boat, terminal breast cancer and my former brother in law now only has a few months to live with his cancer. My teacher friend was suicidal and I had to intervene to save her. Just too many people I know going through this hell. It does effect my eating--yesterday I ate more calories than usual and had an adkins bar too. Time to calm my brain down-can't change any of it but be supportive to those around me. On the bright side, my new elliptical got delivered yesterday, somehow, 10 minutes on that is work compared to walking 10 miles a day! yeah really! Did you know that a ketogenic can reduce your health risk for cancer, dementia and a lot of other health issues, maybe it is my age--but you do start thinking about that stuff with so many people in my world struggling with terminal illness. If anything I do know is that if you can get your life style changed, you will have lifetime benefits. Keep going everyone is doing great!

Dawn, that is a lot of heavy stuff to deal with. I hope your friends and loved ones have lots of support and inner peace. Every day I say to myself "I won't have the strength to take care of anyone unless I take care of me first," and it's the truth. Thank you for the reminder that what we're all doing here is the best contribution to fighting disease and disability that we can make.

Courtney, what a fabulous loss. I'm hoping to make it to 5 lbs for my first week (since I'd been low-carbing off and on for a while before beginning), and you're already into the program!

great job Courtney! I bet you are really proud after the week you had, 5.2 is awesome!

So sorry you are dealing with those things Dawn. My only experience with cancer was my grandfather being diagnosed and going downhill within months a couple years ago. But I fear that I will be seeing much more of it now that my parents and in-laws are getting older.

I fell off the wagon last night. Kind of cheesy, but a family pet of 15 years was put down yesterday after a sudden health change, so one of my sisters and I split a bottle of wine to toast him. And a bottle of wine turned into lowered inhibitions, and the rest is history. My keto stick was white as white can be this morning, but I am back on the wagon. My weight was the same from yesterday at least. I felt like crap this morning from the wine and junk, so pushing a lot of water today and eating on plan.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Dawn, that is terrible. So,ethi,es it seems like when it rains, it pours. For five years I worked on an oncology/hospice unit. I've seen some really horrific things and it really messed me up. It's no wonder that I gained 100lbs in five years. No lie. I would see many of these patients every three weeks for a week at a time. And when you work 13 hr shifts, they were my friends. I don't concentrate on "cancer causing" things, but I focus on being strong and healthy. That is a big component of how you can fight. Just be there for those close to you. Listen, cry, hug, and try to focus on the memories you have with them. There were many tear filled drives home and prayers for comfort. Ps. You're not kidding about the elliptical. I do about 15-20 mins at a time only because it's too much for me just yet. That's about 2-3 times a week. I'd love to get in the habit of doing it every morning.

Going for a long walk tonight with a new friend. We met because I found her dog wandering outside my apartment and finally found her and her boyfriend as the dogs owners :-) we've walked a couple of times since and I'm thrilled to have someone to walk with!

I also understand how painful losing a family pet is. When I was 12 we finally got a dog. I had begged since I was little, but my older brother was allergic to everything. So we found a non allergenic dog. Her name was Casper and man did we do everything with at dog. She did tricks and made everyone laugh. Through our teenage years we would put funky hair colors in our hair, so we would dye the top of caspers head too. Drove my dad nuts but I swear she loved the attention. She passed away last Easter, 15 yrs old. I still get upset thinking about it! I think a nice toast of wine is great. And umm... One bottle for two of you? Heck I used to drink one by myself lol!

My best friend has started a program very similar to medi through the hospital she works at. Her program is a little more in depth and specifies how many grams of each thing to eat and what times. It's great to talk to someone and swap recipes or hints through texts and conversations. It's very helpful!

Courtney- that weight is just melting right off! Awesome job!
I've been averaging 3lbs a week the past few weeks which I'm very happy with. I hope I can keep up the momentum. I've been challenged to get at least 10,000 steps every day. The last two days I did it, I'm 99% sure today will be no problem. Hope I can keep it up!

Thanks everyone for support. Life is always changing, we don't get to control as much as you would like too some days. Loss of friends and members of our families like our pets that we love, make it clearer we need to take care of ourselves. I have been a RN for 31 years now, I am not sure where that time went, but most people that work in healthcare are overweight from the stress of doing this, I still love it, but it is hard when you get to know others and they are not just a patient to you. I could not ever work with cancer patients although I did manage a nursing home and loved that, did a little hospice and that was emotional. The challenge is not turning to food for comfort, finding positive ways to cope with life. As many of you know, this is the last piece to get my life back. I think I have had every major stressor in the last 5 years besides my own death! why do I say this, we are all fighting something or have something we are dealing with, it is just how this goes in our live. But the one thing I do know, I am glad I am here!
