Freeze egg whute

I've been cooking for years and didn't know this, in case you didn't either. If you're only using yolks in a recipe, don't throw away extra egg whites. You can freeze raw egg whites for up to a year, defrosting them to use in dishes such as meringues and egg-white omelets.....Ann

I do that frequently. I pop one or two egg whites into those snack-sized zipper bags, then put the lot of them into a gallon freezer zip-loc bag. Nice to just toss one on the counter, where it defrosts pretty quickly, or run just-warm water over it if I'm in a bigger hurry - I love them for breading. I think they are "stickier" for crumbs and such than a whole beaten egg.

Thank you Charski, I was wondering how exactly you would go about putting them in the freezer.. I usually dumped leftover egg whites in the dog dish, I'm ashamed to admit, but at least it didn't go to waste and she loved them ; 0 ) ........Ann
