WOE: 40Gm carbs/day (total) + WLS
Start Date: 8/11/2005 lap band; maintaining since 7/4/08!!!
TEN YEAR SURGI-VERSARY!

I would just like to thank LCF for all of the support and information offered.
It has made my maintanence tolerable!
I had all of my annual labs today, and when I was asked how long I had my lap band, I realized it has been a DECADE already.
225 pounds down and I am NEVER going back up!!

For newbies: YOU can do this!
For repeat offenders: DITTO!
For those in maintanence, it's a different, but challenging game that CAN be done!
The key is to NEVER GIVE UP.
That's what defines a champion!!!

WOW!! Great job on maintaining!

I am six months post op and almost to my goal.

I must be completely honest, the thought of maintaining scares the beejeebees out of me. I have spent my entire life either trying to lose or not giving a crap and gaining.

I feel like I am venturing into a whole new world.

Have have done low carb for many many years (when I wasn't in the "don't give a crap" phase) so I know whatever I do to maintain will include low carb. I have recently been looking into the JUDD plan (High calorie day and low calorie day alternated).

Can you share any info on your eating plan or tips that you have used to maintain your weight loss?

This is very tedious, but it WORKS......40 Gm of CHO (carbs) per day, introduce a 'goodie' once per week, and continue to weigh yourself daily. I don't need a food diary, as I know what little, that I eat already. However, what IS important is my body's response to the 'goodie' by registering a change on the scale. It may also take 3 days to show a change on the scale.....for instance, eating a slice of birthday cake on a Saturday; the following Tuesday shows a weight gain of 3 pounds. Then, I graph what this looks like....as the years pass, you can see what pitfalls arrived, or what situations that you allowed yourself NO CHOICE. My motto: always have a plan......even if you need to excuse yourself from a dinner party, to grab a high protein, low carb muscle milk drink at a Chevron & drink it on the way back to a party, just so you won't overeat and then consequently, beat yourself up over it. I'd rather avoid that entire negative feedback loop, if I can. It takes 3 weeks to develop a new and positive habit.
The only difference between a dream and a goal, is a timeline. Do yourself a favor, and don't waste time; and to start living a quality life!

JM2, CONGRATS on the weight loss. Difficult, absolutely. Maintenance is an entirely different, and frightening animal. You will DO FINE. Mistakes will be made....it's life! Just make no excuses for your behavior....as long as you realize this is a delicate balancing act, that none of us are used to! Lose weight, yes, we've done it too many times. We just never learned to walk on a tightrope!!!
