Sudsy Tuna?

I opened one can of my favorite albacore gold can Bumble Bee and the liquid inside was sudsy. I opened another can to see if maybe it was just that one can but, sudsy again. I cannot find any customer service number anywhere. I rinsed the can in water before opening and there was no soap on the can opener. I'm tempted to just throw it out. Makes me annoyed because this is one of my monthly splurges as it's more expensive tuna.

Was it just protein bubbles or actual soap? Did you taste it at all?

If you have Facebook, you might want to post on their page or send them a message that way.

I don't have FB. I did not taste it. I just smelled it and it smelled BAD. It looked fine though. I smelled the sudsy liquid and I smelled no soap. Never heard of protein bubbles.
I'm done with canned tuna. I had to pitch about 5 cans of Chicken of the Sea recently as the tuna was brown and smelled like rotten cat food. Found many, many complaints online about that brand.
I guess I'll email Bumble Bee.

I know it's annoying that they don't have a customer service phone number on their website, but there is a way to contact them via e-mail.

You might put the open tuna in the fridge and then try to contact them via e-mail to find out what the 'sudsy' issue is.

Sometimes you're better off without a phone number because I've spent a lot of time 'holding' for some of these companies! When I've used the e-mail contact form, I usually hear from them within 24 hours.

I put the cans in a zipper bag in the freezer. Opened a can of chicken (Great Value premium) and NO suds or bubbles!

Eew!

Could be a packaging error in one run of the product. Check and see if there are lot numbers or dates on the packages, if they are all the same, chances are good that you got multiples from the same batch.

I can recall (back when I was young/foolish/ate those things) getting a box of pop tarts where the individual packs were "sealed" in the middle of the product. It would end up being two half tarts with the ends towards each other with the "middle" crushed and mangled, incidentally rendering the package unable to seal properly.

A girlfriend working at a restaurant was slicing roast beef when the slicer started making horrendous noise. Later inspection revealed ball bearings embedded in the meat. We need iron, but not chunks of...

I wouldn't taste it. If I recall from canning sites, "sudsy" can be contaminated product.
Definitely contact them and tell them.

Thanks for the info Dottie! I'm glad I'm naturally paranoid and didn't eat it!

I once bought a bbq chicken California pizza kitchen frozen pizza and while eating a piece bit into a bone, I'm talking quarter sized. This was a long time ago, probably at least 10 years but I do remember contacting the company and I think I had to send them the bone and if I remember correctly I think they were willing to cover dental costs if it had damaged a tooth. Glad I didn't swallow it!
I remember being in my teens and eating a bowl of Raison Bran. I bit down on what looked like a pebble a lil bit larger than a raison. I think I just threw it away and got on with life. You know how it is when you're younger, lol.

I was thinking maybe the cans at the tuna factory are washed and rinsed with hot water and maybe this batch didn't get the soap rinsed off? I have no idea if they even use soap in processing but it looked like dish soap in the liquid and I've never had that in tuna before. I will be contacting them for sure.

I haven't bought canned tuna in a while. When I do buy it I buy the pouches and mix the mayo in the pouch and eat it directly out of the pouch. I only buy it for a quick lunch.

I used to do that. Mix the mayo right in the pouch, so easy. I'm gonna get the kind in the pouch next time I go shopping. I only eat tuna maybe once or twice a month so it's a disappointment this was bad.

Can you take it back to the grocery store you purchased it from? They also need to know they're selling cans of tuna with botulism!

I like Wild Planet tuna. It isn't too dry or mushy. It tastes like tuna I remember from when I was a kid. It isn't cheap but they have it at Costco.

I eat Wild Planet--shrimp, tuna, and salmon. I get good prices from Amazon, but the Wild Planet website also offers free shipping and excellent customer service.

This is wild caught seafood, preserved in its own juices--a really superior product.

I buy Wild Planet tuna from Costco as well. It is really great. I also buy some of the pre-mixed StarKist tuna salad puches (around 3 net carbs/pouch) for emergency rations at work.

I am sure that this is not what happened to your tuna because this incident took place in 2012, but an article came across my news feed today and I thought I'd share since, well...it seemed relevant somehow:

Google "Bumble Bee Foods employees charged in death of worker cooked with tuna"

I just looked it up and the first article was dated Monday, April 27, 2015 07:08PM?
Oh ok they were just all charged recently for the incident that happened in 2012.

Get any and all lot numbers and/or dates printed on the cans. Look up your local hospital's non-emergency number and ask them where you should report this to. Possibly look up FDA (Food and Drug Administration [Agency?]) and initiate contact with them. Someone will eventually want the cans you've put in the freezer.
