I only snack when I get home from work at 4:30 because we eat our dinner late.

I have a series of smaller mini meals all day long...as in, I eat about 6 times a day. I might have a greek yogurt for one, half a protein shake for the next, a hard boiled egg with a little cheese, a wasa (or 2) with some peanut or almond butter, etc... Since I really got serious about losing my regain I only very rarely eat a "meal." Tonight I went to dinner with a friend, and slowly ate a shrimp cocktail app and a small house salad as my meal. It was yummy and filling.

So as you know my dad is recovering from shingles and being in the hospital. Now at the nursing home, supposed to be getting rehab and stronger. Not happening. He has pneumonia on top of everything else. I am not handling dad's situation very well. We brought him over to have Easter dinner with us. He seems to have given up---says he's too tired and doesn't feel well when I tell him he has to try and build up his strength. He doesn't even want to move his wheelchair himself. He's not eating much and still shaking and coughing. I don't know how to help him. Please pray for God's will and strength for me too. Thanks. (plus I am not eating very well now with all this stress. Triggers are just wanting me to eat comfort food. I can't backslide on that too, my life is already falling apart.)

Me too, Chewie. Life can really suck at times. If I may say so, keep as close to your on-track eating as you can. For me, knowing I'm having all these bad things happen and also not eating right makes me feel even worse about everything. What you put in your mouth might be one of the few things you can still control. Stay strong.

Geez! I'm so sorry guys! I can't believe how fast my 2 weeks working at home went.. I just went back to work yesterday. Its been 3 weeks now. My recovery was super easy and simple! I had my surgery 3/18 (Wednesday) and the pain was fine. I was on morphine in the hospital. I had my swallow test on Thursday and everything was fine, and I went home. They prescribed me Percocet, or Oxycodone with Tylenol. That would hurt when it went down, but took the edge off. I took my pain killers, and slowly tapered off each day to once a day. By day 5, I was off all pain pills. Did my two weeks of liquids, and now i'm on soft foods; soup, fish, yogurt, protein drinks, soft veggies..

So far, so good. My incisions are pretty much healed, and you can barely tell they are there. I have my 4 week follow up next Tuesday. I lost 11 pounds pre-op, and I am down 32 pounds total. I've been at 32 pounds lost since Saturday. Been doing some gym work too..

I'm mostly getting in 400-500 calories a day.. what should I be aiming for?

Where's Heather? Just thinking of her because she's our vitamin cheer leader. I got lab results back and they're bad. Everything else is good but I'm anemic and my iron is zero. I was talking vitamins for post bariatric surgery, I eat meat and green veggies as the staple of my diet and my surgery was not mal absorptive. So I'm really at a loss as to how this happened in one year. Doc is worried I have ulcers. I don't have any symptoms, I've always had indigestion post surgery. I'm getting an endoscopy May 4th. Doc is talking infusion (HT did you have one) and meanwhile I'm taking mega doses of iron. Oh and since I eat meat and green veggies and take a vitamin my doc is also concerned I might not be absorbing iron anymore. How and why would that happen? He said the gastro would test that.

I have had iron infusions...which will raise your iron levels really quickly. It involves a little time, since if they put it in too fast it will burn and hurt (been there, too). As far as ulcers, I've also been down that road - but I had a bleeding ulcer which required emergency surgery and the resulting blood loss just about did me in. Hopefully your doctor will get to the bottom of it fast!

In other news, I am happy to announce that this morning I FINALLY am in Onederland again! I was 199.0. I gained almost 40 pounds since my lowest, but I'm down just about 24 of them now. It is hard to get back to basics, but it was necessary for me. I had slid back to eating...not big quantities, but often, and the wrong foods. I can gain a pound a day, it seems, but it takes me about a week to lose a pound, so it is really difficult. I have been really careful ever since 1/1/15 and I am feeling better than I have in a long time. Yay me!

How's everyone else doing?

I'm back UP into Twoderland darn it!! I'm so FRUSTRATED. But I'm not going to allow this to get the best of me. Maintenance is an entirely different animal.....easy to not pay close attention and get jammed up.
Back to protein shakes twice a day for a week and I will report how this is going!
Glad I've got packing to do at my dad's house.....get a lot done when ya don't eat!!!

I am now 15 days out from my sleeve surgery and other than still getting tired more easily than normal, am feeling pretty good. Still on pureed foods and going to start some soft foods this week. I'm down 26lbs from my consult weigh in, 18lbs from the day I walked into the hospital. Greek yogurt and cottage cheese are going really well for me, and I'm still doing a protein drink a day to make sure I get my 60g of protein in.

Hi Jessica - Glad it sounds like you're doing well.

Harriet - Glad to hear of your loss! My losses are super slow, but the trend is downward, so I'll take it. I was 198.2 the last time I checked. Hoping to be in the 197th pound when I check (probably tomorrow morning). I have a date with my treadmill and then probably my swimming pool this afternoon to try to help my accomplish that!

It is hard to accept that - best case scenario - I can probably only lose about 2 pounds a week at my stage of the game (I'm about 4.5 years post WLS). That is with very mindful eating, about 1600 calories a day, and exercise at least 5x/wk. I can count on one hand how many times I've had a piece of bread, piece of pizza, or some other not-low-carb food since 12/31/14. That said, I've also gone from a regain high of 222.9 to 198.2 since then. I've fought for every pound I've lost, however! The first ten pounds weren't too hard...now it is hard! Still, I feel so much better than I did when the scale kept creeping up. Better mentally and physically. Do I still have bad days and eat too much? Sure, but at least now it is usually just an extra Quest bar or a wasa cracker or two with peanut butter and low-sugar jelly...not a few pieces of pizza or donuts. Pick your hard, right?

How is everyone? Happy weekend!

I was in the tanker and physically sympomatic. Two infusions and I feel right again. I started feeling better within a week. I don't absorb oral iron. I tried all different kinds and all different amounts.

Hey all, doing ok.. I had a 3 week and 1 day stall that finally ended Sunday! I've lost 3 more pounds, which puts me at 35 pounds lost so far.. hopefully it keeps going down now! 282 was a huge set point for my body too. I hovered around that weight for many, many years, so it makes sense that I stayed there awhile. I'm feeling good.. My friend from the gym came up to me today and said, OMG, I didn't recognize you! LOL. So my first big compliment..

Hiya everyone!!!

I signed up for a charity walk to benefit cancer which my grandmother unfortunately was diagnosed with. Would anyone be interested in making a donation? If so, you can do it through my page at:

Thank You!

Hey everyone! I just got back from vacation...an 8 day cruise...so now it's time to get serious. My surgery is May 15th so I started my low carb/high protein diet today. Will do this until Wednesday May 13th when I start the two day liquid diet.

I feel like I should be getting nervous, but I'm not...yet! It's about to get real up in here!

JustMe2- Welcome back, I hope you had a great time. Good luck with your prep diet, I lost 7lbs during mine, but didn't do 2 days of liquid prior to surgery. I do recommend that you have someone take "before surgery" shots of you this week. I am having DH do them every month and was shocked at my progress in just my first month post-op. I'm not sharing them with the world, but am very glad I took them for me.

As for me, I'm in the dreaded 3/4w post-op stall and am trying really hard to not get discouraged. I am getting my protein and water in, and am hoping that the scale starts to move again soon.
